This is the second Michael Jackson biopic to feature Holly Robinson-Peete. She started as Diana Ross in the ABC miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream (1992).
As he is comforting his children, Michael sings Charlie Chaplin's "Smile" to them. He recorded his own cover of the song as part of his 1995 release "HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book 1".
Because Michael Jackson's estate didn't permit the use of any rights to music, video etc. this movie doesn't not feature any original Michael Jackson songs. However the song "Beat it" was mentioned once in the dialogue and a sound-a-like tune was played during the street montage. Also the moonwalk was imitated by strangers in the scene where Jackson walks on the street with a helmet on.
