Okay but also annoying.

Warning: Spoilers
I love ben schwartz, and I did find parts of the movie interesting. But OMG the female character was so unlikable. Like wth, I really hoped they would break up because he obviously deserved someone better. Like, she complained about not making up his mind but damn she was confusing af. But at least the ending scene gave you hope that they actually crashed and died and were both put out of their miseries.

Finding together
kosmasp5 August 2018
Also living apart - and jumping through hoops or time. Yes this isn't linear and yes this is not your usual rom-com. And that is what makes it enticing and entertaining to watch. Good dialog, different perspectives and a look into relationships and how complex it can be. It feels real and you get the usual "he said/she said" situations, where you have to decide which side you are on - but you also get different layers that might valid your first choice obsolete and make you think again.

It's I reckon more complex than other movies, just a fair warning. More complex than just boy/girl, like/not like that is. Not talking highly complex movies that are hard to follow. If you are into light entertainment, good dialog and some love in your movies, you could do much worse than this

enjoyable... not much else
jamiecrosland31 March 2018
Good film, good acting, decently funny, nothing ground breaking, nothing which makes it particularly stand out, probably won't be something I remember or ever come back to but if you have nothing else to do and you want to watch a shortish film, why not give this one a try?

Though there are some faults with this film I can't say that I would say you shouldn't watch it, if someone asked me should I watch this film? I would defiantly say yes but I wouldn't out right tell anyone that this is a great piece of cinema that they should watch.

Such an authentic portrayal of real relationships
Gordon-114 July 2018
This film tells the story of a couple who has their doubts on their relationship on their third anniversary.

What the couple goes through is really very real. It is easy to relate to, as many people will have had similar doubts in the past. The arguments in the film are not too heated to create a negative vibe, but still very real life like. I felt very connected to the story, and I really enjoyed it.

A pleasant surprise
suhstayn12 April 2018
I had just watched Woody Allen's Wonder Wheel a day earlier (another romance film) and I have to say this movie was so much better than that.

The chemistry between couple was superb (unlike the other film where they had none). The acting from Noel Wells (1st time seen her in something) and Ben Schwartz (he was the reason I watched the film, I really liked him in other shows I have seen him in) was very good. They worked together well. Bounced off one another. Looked and felt like a real couple. The friendship between Ben Schwartz and Rahul Kohli was high quality too.

I wasn't expecting much from this film. I was hoping for passable and wasn't even truly expecting that. So to get a film that was watchable and enjoyable was a nice surprise.

I liked the characters. I liked their chemistry together. I liked the dialogue in the movie. The pacing was good. Kept it short and that worked well. I liked how the movie told the story of the couple's 3rd anniversary but also included flashbacks to give you an idea of what their relationship was like (the good and the bad) to let you the viewer understand how they arrived at this point. And how hard it was for them to figure out whether this relationship was simply good or marriage worthy.

A pleasant surprise. Worth a viewing.

Did Some Things Right But Didn't Keep Me Interested
neener370730 March 2018
While it did nail the volatility of these kinds of relationships, it unfortunately lacks the depth that could have made it so good. Basically it follows the story of an unhappy relationship on its 3rd anniversary, where the couple reminisces and decides whether they should break up or not. So the plot is paper thin, but that wouldn't have mattered with a solid set of characters and a deep story. But unfortunately it just didn't keep me interested. I initially was interested because have been in a similar volatile relationship, but I found it to be very shallow, mostly focusing on the volatility rather than the deep character related emotions that cause it, also not focusing enough on why they loved each other in the first place, which plays a large role in such immense relationship related decisions.

The characters were not necessarily one dimensional, but each of them had qualities that should have been more fleshed out, fleshing them out would have led to a much more interesting and compelling story. The chemistry was slightly there among the couple, the chemistry among the cast as a whole is nothing special and not really there. The film just wasn't deep and compelling, and it failed to keep me interested, and to be honest I didn't watch the ending, because I simply just wasn't invested in the story or characters. I wouldn't really reccomend this one.

Unbelievably slow and uninteresting
LucyBonette1 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is very slow and boring. There is nothing that makes you care even the slightest bit about what happens to this couple. It just drags on forever. The flashbacks are supposed to take you along to the more romantic times, but nothing happens there either. It's got a lot of elements that should make you care. But we just don't.

Gotta Love Benny Schwaz
sartikyle17 April 2018
To be honest, this movie sucks dong. But if you like really overly cheesy, poorly written, fast paced slop dongs, then you might enjoy this. I love Schwaz!

No charisma. Mediocre dialogue.
sclafunk26 April 2018
In a nutshell the acting isn't even close to good enough to carry this kind of super low budget deal. These two aren't bad in some other things but have really no charisma in this. The concept is solid, the execution is seriously flawed, and the dialogue is mediocre at its best, at times cringeworthy, which is absurd for a movie essentially centered around it. The relationship simply didn't seem real to me, even if the conflict did at times. Not missing anything skipping this. Check out Band Aid, that's a great example of how a flick in this kinda vein is done right.

Noël Wells & Ben Schwartz did great
loy-wade-956-9176012 April 2018
I really enjoyed this movie a lot. I love Noël Wells & Ben Schwartz and they are great with what they were given. while at times it does feel like being jostled around when they cut to a flashback, you get the idea of what's going on without feeling like you're being left behind. It's hard to sell a relationship in an hour and a half, but it was believable. Their characters do seem to have some chemistry which is nice, cause not every Rom-com can do it well. It's easy enough to relate to, and has some genuinely funny lines and moments that made me laugh.

A dramedy that tries to look at all sides
thecanadian-2331724 July 2021
I found this on Netflix and decided to give it a whirl, and honestly I liked it a lot - but it's got some problems. The primary issue with this movie is that it's just too short. Clocking in at 78 minutes, the first half is actually decently paced but the back half goes way too quickly. A lot of the movie is told through flashbacks, but the present day portion of the story only takes place across a single 24 hours. For the "journey" that the characters go on, this feels like much too short of a time span, but there's also just not enough screen time to fully justify the resolution that eventually happens.

One thing that I really loved about this movie though is that it attempts to review the relationship from multiple different angles. A lot of relationship movies will only go over the negatives or the positives, but this movie tried to show the couple at their worst and their best and I liked that a lot. Relationships are complex and messy, and this movie tried to capture that feeling. I thought the two main leads were really good as well, but they both have little side stories that feel a bit unnecessary. With an already very short runtime, devoting precious minutes to these seemingly random side stories feels like a waste of time.

Overall I did like the movie and would definitely recommend it, but it needed another solid 20 minutes to really flesh out this relationship and the journey that the characters go on.

After 20 minutes, I was completely bored. The characters are glum and the whole thing is just childish. Don't waste your time.

A pretty honest examination of both the positives and negatives of relationships.

'HAPPY ANNIVERSARY': Four and a Half Stars (Out of Five)

The new indie comedy from writer/director Jared Stern, in his feature film directorial debut. It tells the story of a couple that's struggling to decide if they should stay together or not, on their three year anniversary. The film stars Noël Wells and Ben Schwartz, and it was released by Netflix through it's streaming site. I really enjoyed it.

Mollie (Wells) and Sam (Schwartz) are celebrating their three year anniversary, with breakfast in bed that Sam prepared for Mollie, when Sam announces that she's not happy. This is a big surprise to Sam, who thought things were going great in their relationship. They argue about it, and reminisce on past experiences together, before Mollie suggests a temporary split. The two spend the rest of the film evaluating how they feel about each other, and whether they should stay together or not.

I love relationship studies, with lots of character development, and clever dialogue; like most notably the majority of Kevin Smith's work, or 'SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK' (my all-time favorite movie). This film does all of those things well, and the two leads are really likable and good in their roles too. I think Stern definitely impresses as a writer and first time director also. It's a feel good film, that's also a pretty honest examination of both the positives and negatives of relationships. I think it's definitely well worth a watch.

Cheap. Cheesy. Bad.
ilyalubovich31 March 2018
See above and don't waste your time. Since when is it legitimate for a woman to have an insane amount of requests from a relationship which a man is supposed to fulfil. What has she done for him? Perhaps it's time for us to reconsider the usual gendered expectations from relationships. This will make people less selfish.

Cinematographically speaking, the acting in this movie is rather poor. The plot is thin and corny. The screenwriters' attempt to capture the complexities of Y-generation relationships absolutely fails. Neither the story nor the acting are convincing.

Hi there, first review. And wow I just felt the need to say something.

Warning: Spoilers
What an absolutely depressing movie. I feel like the whole movie was just screaming SETTLE. like I get at the end it was all happy blah blah but holy crap. Just save yourself. It's not worth the time or eye and ear muscles used to comprehend the sad plot that will only make you question your own relationship.

Great Romantic Comedy!
sjfahringer31 March 2018
First, I love just about everything with Ben Schwartz and this movie proves no different. Ben's onscreen timing is great and the writing really built around his comedy/drama strengths as an actor. The writing is charming, which is exactly what you want for a movie like this - comfort food for the soul. The writing really captures the difficulties that couples face after a few years together when one person admits that they may not feel the same way they did at the beginning of the relationship. Not to mention, that awkward on again off again thing that naturally follows. The movie played well all around.

very annoying and childish characters
iamkilix2 April 2018
I'd say they are realistic, but they are very plain, boring and sad couple to watch. Both of the characters were colorless and not charming. Reminded me of people I knew who bothered me a lot just being there. This movie talks too much. I couldn't even finish watching. felt like a date with a negative boss.

Easily top 5 Worst movies I've ever seen. Even for a romcom, it's horrible. It's the Coyote Ugly of romcoms. I hate myself for watching the whole thing.

WAY over-use of swearing. Trying too hard. Awkward.
texasmichaelcameron4 April 2018
Really, the occasional "F Bomb" can be tastefully dropped for serious dramatic impact but in this show, the first 10 mins has more profanity than regular words and sounds so childish. It's too awkward to watch. Whether the director made him swear so much, or the actor just had no real concept of how to delivers lines is irrelevant. There's an immediate disconnect. I'd expect that from a 10 year old leaning how to swear, but not from an adult.

The storyline was OK, the supporting actors were quite good. Flashbacks were necessary to hold the story together. I only watched it to the end because I was curious about how disconnected one can be from the ridiculous dialogue. Sure enough, a complete waste of time.

DULL
fvanwoglom8 April 2018
Watching this movie is a waste of time- it is cliche, bland, and it leaves no impact on the viewer whatsoever. The writing is subpar. Straight up lazy and uninspired. The characters are annoying, the dialogue is frustratingly cheesy, and interactions within the film seem heavily contrived and inorganic.

This film was not as bad as these trolls are making it out to be. If you're in a long term relationship you'll get it and enjoy it because it's actually realistically relatable.
