This episode appears to be inspired by the 2002 murder of a little girl in San Diego, California. Danielle Van Dam was only 7 years old when she disappeared from her bedroom one night, in the house where she resided with her parents. Tragically, she would later be found deceased. Her next-door neighbor, David Westerfield, became the prime suspect. During the suspect's murder trial, the defense attorney focused on Danielle's parents' lifestyle of partying and allegedly swinging. Danielle's mother arrived home from a bar at around 2 a.m. the night that Danielle vanished. Danielle's mother was in the company of four friends. Therefore, the defense attorney suggested that with so many people present in the home, anyone could have abducted little Danielle.
Robert John Burke & Rachelle Lefevre previously costarred together in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002).
