1's and 2's are not fair...
dmenzie26 March 2018
The show has much improved this second half of season 8 and is what it is at this point. To rate the last few episodes under a 5 is not fair. Guys it's a Zombie show on AMC, not GOT or the Sopranos, so relax with the crap reviews and enjoy it for what it is...a good distraction on a Sunday night that is better than most other crap out there. I think the negative reviews come from disappointment as it is truly not what it once was but, what do you expect after so many seasons and episodes?

The sweet spot for most excellent shows are under 100 episodes, this show is not GOT, Breaking Bad, The Wire, or anything even close to it!

Don't expect anything more than something mildly entertaining with a mediocre story line. It can't be what it once was so stop dreaming and accept it or just stop watching and writing awful reviews it's getting old.

Solid episode and a 7 out of 10 is my vote...

Havoc

The Saviors commanded by Simon attack Hilltop but they are pushed back by people commanded by Maggie, Rick and Daryl. During the night, there is havoc in Hilltop and soon the leaders discover that the Savior have infected their wounded people with walker´s blood.

"Do Not Send Us Astray" is a good episode but what the spoiled and annoying boy Henry does is at least ridiculous. How thirty-eight prisoners could be left in a wire fencing without a guard during the night? Tara will be certainly infected in another achievement of the notorious Eugene.

There is an important review entitled "...the walking commercial" highlighting the absurd long commercials along the show. Better of download the show on the next day instead of seeing the absolute lack of respect of the television, breaking the tension with the most stupid and long commercials. My vote is eight.

"I Don't Think it Ends"
ThomasDrufke26 March 2018
In an episode that makes the whole Lauren Cohan contract situation feel even more awkward, 'Do not Send Us Astray' puts Maggie at the forefront and continues the all out war conflict as The Saviors arrived at The Hilltop with their walker blood filled weapons.

It's awkward because I feel as though Maggie has been the most consistently realistic person in this post apocalyptic drama. She's always stayed level-headed, even after her devastating loss of Glenn a few years back. It's strange that she could be on her way out if the contract isn't signed soon, and then we're stuck with the revenge filled Rick who is still not agreeing to go about his son's last wishes.

But back to the war, it sure feels like the Dwight-Saviors conflict is rising as it's pretty clear Dwight did not lace his weapons with walker blood, as the others did. Another clue as to how Dwight meets his end. But I'm pretty sure a lot of comic readers already know how this plot goes. The other big moment came from the new kid of the series we have to care about, Henry, as he took a page out of Carl's book as he took on the caged Saviors alone with an assault rifle. Only, it didn't quite go as planned (expectedly). So are we going to follow Carol looking for Sophia (I mean Henry) again...?

The good thing is, these episodes don't really have any downtime. The mere fact that everyone is in the same place brings the pacing of the episodes up 1000% percent. While there isn't always the outcome we would like, these back half episodes are certainly better than what we saw in late 2017, and I'll take it.

It's getting it's grove back
hawkthedoc26 March 2018
After a lackluster season 7 and a subpar first half of season 8, it is nice to see the show get back to what they're good at. Tonight's episode, along with last weeks, FINALLY feels like The Walking Dead again.

War and zombies ! No more cheezy dialogues from soap opera !
jimmyfalcon695 June 2020
Another good episode with everything you could wish from a zombie apocalypse. Time went so fast because of such an amazing pace ! I hope they keep the line until the last episode in order to save season 8.

What Can Even Be Said About This Episode?
leddyfzm26 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Nothing. That sums up this entire episode- a whole lot of nothing happened. It was like watching previews of the next episode where there's a ton of action scenes that go no where. After last week's episode, I started to feel a bit optimistic; I should've known.

I really don't know how this show is going to recover from Carl's death. After taking out a major character, you have to come back extremely strong. You have to make a death like that worth it; you have to make it so essential to the story line, that there's no way to imagine the show without that event. TWD is failing miserably at this. To be fair, I don't think any show would be able to recover from such a major character loss.

And can we talk about the amount of commercials? My god! I DVR the show and it's still a pain to have to fast forward every three minutes. This is why I hate watching shows week-to-week on a network, as opposed to watching a full season on Netflix. The constant commercial breaks, especially when something rather exciting happens, doesn't let you really connect with the show. It's a completely different experience.

This episode proved to me that watching TWD will be a complete waste of time. I'm done with these filler episodes, I'm done with the 10-minute long commercial breaks. It really hurts to say this because I was such a fan of the show, and I'm a huge fan of the comic. You can dig a grave for this viewer.

An entertaining and scary episode
tyetye-5742828 March 2018
You cannot trust other reviewers. They talk nothing about the show and just say how it use to be a great show and how big of a super fan they were. It's upsetting to see this episode at 7.7 because it included fear, anger, and entertaining battles. People need to actually watch the show. You're dead inside if you didn't like this episode

Does this show use cartoon logic?
cjhbuttons26 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so this episode was WAY better than several previous ones. I liked the fever twist too. But seriously why is it when someone gets bitten by a walker, it takes awhile for them to turn? Case in point, Carl. Seems like a long time went by until he was going to turn yet tonight carols boyfriend turns an hour later? Cuz of the virus? Wouldn't the same virus cause whoever gets infected to turn at the same rate? I'm glad like many other that they are going to finally be rid lot Tara!! What a useless character. And can u please try to add a baby bump on maggy!!!! Or scrap her pregnancy all together. Geez.

In my opinion they should stop with the wars between the humans and go back to worrying about the dead. Like have them move faster and up their zombification (yes a new word I made up) and make this show more about the dead. This fighting is just being rehashed over and over.

Two steps forward one step back
warrcameron27 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is an average episode, it was filled with good moments but largely let down by clunky dialogue and issues that have been dragging the show down for a while now.

The action sequence to begin with was fun, while frustrating. The plot armour for characters on each side is so thick that it's hard to truly engage with the beginning siege from the saviours. This is just an example of the Negan story dragging, because everybody knows there will be no consequence to either side until the season finale. The aim on the show is something that I can usually ignore but has begun to irritate me slightly; how characters accuracy fluctuates as it pleases, from getting headshots on a zombie from miles away, to going full storm trooper aim at point blank range. How there wasn't more casualties to the saviours when they were out in the open blinded by the truck lights - I don't know. Oh, there is also the fact that all of the saviours somehow bunched up behind one bus and all walked out at once, which was something I was happy to ignore.

The Siddiq speech at the start of the episode was out of the blue and cringeworthy, with the other doctor woman saying "I like you" was a moment which sparked a roll of the eyes. (in addition to this, Siddiq's character is acted well, but why is he here? Isn't the cast already big enough that we can't get any decent development on any character, why are more characters being added?)

Tobin, a character that has drifted in and out of relevancy was finally let go of in this episode. I thought somehow he managed to survive the battle to my displease as I had to endure a pointless string of dialogue between him and Carol. Luckily , to avoid being an irrelevant love interest to Carol, he turned in the night due to the virus and began a mini outbreak.

Lazy writing such as a walker literally falling down a rather large flight of stairs and failing to wake anybody up is something that usually I can forgive, but it becomes a bit distracting after a while.

The virus/fever is something that was needed to add a bit of variety to this half of the series, but I doubt it will last long, the sequence was also dreadful in comparison to season 4 virus outbreak.

Tara decides to all of a sudden to side with Dwight this episode after wanting to murder him. Yes. Whatever. Make up your mind Tara.

Henry is a frustrating little story line, what is it with Carol and kids? She is like a magnet for mentally deranged children, and it's something that I've seen many times before. Furthermore, how did no one spot him? Where on earth did he find the key? Was it just lying around?

In conclusion I'm giving this episode less credit than it deserves, it was definitely better than any episode in the first half of the series, and is a step in the right direction. That being said however , it is weaker than the last couple of episodes, and the Negan storyline is definitely holding back the show.

This episode was pretty good, it felt dark.
bigmicah-7813226 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was pretty good. The battle was short and decent and there was a lot of decent dialogue as well. When Tobin turned into a walker and started biting a whole bunch of people and then they turned into walkers, that was pretty scary but cool. It felt like the scene when Patrick got sick and infected and started biting all of those people from the prison. The part that I was pretty pissed off at was when Henry opened the gate and then most of the prisoners escaped. That made me mad because Henry could've just killed the prisoners through the gate honestly like...what? lol that was stupid. The walking dead getting a little better and for the fans, ignore the hate.

Still enjoyable but some nonsensical story
glenn-whitelaw10 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Here the big one if anyone remembers. Back in the episode where Shane is killed they work out that people are already infected but in this episode they say it's infected blood. Remember Rick kills Shane then comes back as a walker. Plus why was that kid a dumb ass. Could've easily killed 3 or 4 then left them to turn. Plus I was waiting for the A team to appear. 50000 rounds about 15 folk dead. If the hilltopers get wiped out its probably best. They're idiots.

Oh I Sure Am Glad I Am Carrying 1000 Rounds For This Weapon
wandernn1-81-6832747 April 2021
Okay this Ep had a lot of stupid scenes and a huge amount of automatic weapons fire. Where do they get all this ammo to waste firing automatic weapons? -1 Star for that...

-1 Star for the stupid scene where Daryl rides a motorcycle at like 10 mph thru the Negan group

-1 Star where all the Negans move in in a cluster all together right after being peppered by automatic weapon fire right into Maggie's trap , ROFL...no one is that dumb

And damn if Rick ain't a better melee fighter than Chingachgook was in Last of the Mohicans

Lets waste more bullets firing our handguns at moving trucks from 100 yards.

This was really a stupid ep. 3/10.

Do Not Send Us Astray
bobcobb30114 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Well, at least we had some action, that is far more than we have gotten lately. The battle scenes just are not delivering anymore and the show needs to give us some storylines to make things matter.

It used to be blind violence was enough, but it doesn't seem to be the case with The Walking Dead anymore and I know I am not the only viewer that feels this way.

Walking dead seams returned
yoosefyud26 March 2018
We all know that walking dead is not as good as first 5 seasons. but it is still a good show to watch. This episode was a good walking dead which the monsters was returned, the walkers. worst choice of the show was to weaken the walkers . the show needs it's monsters and they are back in this episode. If they still want to continue the show for more seasons, i think more powerful monsters are required. also after 8 seasons we haven't seen winter and snow in the show. if they decide to bring changes like this i am ok to continue the show for more seasons.

Wrong Remember ?
stutguns30 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The same thing happened when the group was in prison. It had been one night and he had turned and attacked the group members that night. Everyone has the virus, turning into everyone. The person in the prison had not been bitten that they had not taken any precautions at night in him. Even if it is a normal death, everyone who dies will turn, even those who are shot with a gun will turn with a virus-free bullet. I'm a little confused in this episode, I need to find the prison episode and watch it again, but I don't remember. I'll edit my post again after watching it. Now just remember this about this chapter.

Let's be patient
eslam_elsayed_hassan26 March 2018
Maybe the show suffered a bad season , let's just say it was a terrible one the current of events was slow ....etc but they really picked up the pace this season and they are allowing characters to die and introducing new charcters. The show is getting up on its feet again . Just look around in each new episode any charcter which isn't a fan favorite could easily die which got the edge of the show back.

I don't understand how people are trashing this episode. Second half of season 8 has been really awesome and so much better than the previous slow season. This one is packed with action and has some horror vibes in it.

Quality has gone astray
TheLittleSongbird20 June 2022
Season 8 was generally not a particularly good season at all, but it did show signs of improvement in the second half after a very shaky (and that's an understatement) first. Personally do consider it weaker than Season 7 which disappointed on the whole. By all means, some episodes were not bad at all, "The Key" and "The Lost and the Plunderers" in fact impressed me a lot, but most of the season's first half was full of duds. This is coming from a fan of 'The Walking Dead', who loved the first five seasons and a good deal of Season 6.

"Do Not Send Us Astray" is not one of the worst episodes of 'The Walking Dead's' Season 8. It is also not one of the best. To me it is around lower middling. There are some improvements, and one aspect in particular stops the episode from being mediocre, but many of the things that particularly let down the season are still present. As said, "Do Not Send Us Astray" is not a terrible episode and 'The Walking Dead' did a lot worse than this, but it could have been much better than it turned out.

There are things that the episode does well. Steven Ogg is very commanding and brings real unsettling menace to his role and to the episode which does help make some of the conflict in the first act just about believable. Simon is the most interesting character here and the only one that progresses much.

Also thought that the lighting and photography had some nice atmosphere, as did the music. All the acting is fine, with Ogg dominating. Did find some of the early stages compelling and tense and do wish it was maintained all the way through.

However, there is a lot that could have been improved upon drastically. The pacing is rather dull and atmosphere-wise it feels bland. Also thought that it tried to pack in too many threads and too many characters and does too little with most.

A laudable effort is made to develop Simon, but it comes at the expense of the other characters, most given short shrift or unnecessary. There is also some truly dumb and illogical decision making, especially in the logic lapses-laden final third. The episode also feels predictable and lacking in surprises, with a drawn out ending that makes one feel irked and confused rather than thrilled. The dialogue is too heavy in rambling talk and the production values have a hasty look.

Overall, nothing special other than Ogg. 5/10.

GREAT FROM THE OUTSET
conca-628-18337227 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT!: This episode was great from the outset, with the Simon, Dwight and the Saviours coming to the Hilltop to "exterminate" Maggie and her people. Things didn't go to plan BUT Negans plan to use walker guts to infect and turn people certainly did and it was very dramatic and unexpected when it happened.

Some of the character development was good as well this episode with Maggie, Siddiq AND a little from Rick. I'm still liking how the second of the season is going and I'm hoping they can continue their good run of episodes, all of the battles, the action and everything is building up to the Season 8 Finale and I'm excited.

One more thing; to the people who say "it's not a zombie show anymore" LIKE REALLY!? There has been plenty of zombie scenes the last three episodes so if you don't like it and don't care how the episodes are, there's something wrong with you! It's doing good and am liking where it's going and how good it's doing.

emopremo-0462226 March 2018
I'm not sure why people are so hard on this show right now (the episode had negative ratings before it aired) but this episode was really entertaining. The first half of the season was pretty slow but the show has developed the characters so well and I can't wait to watch how the end of the war plays out.

So What Did We Learn Tonight?
sevenlilxenos26 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the balance of Do Not Send Us Astray. Things start off with Camp Maggie coming under attack from self appointed new savior leader Simon armed with germ warfare tainted weapons. After what seemed like a half hour of non stop gun firing we get the aftermath. Both dead saviors and some fighters from Maggie's camp, including Carol's boy toy Tobin turn and come back to life hungry and start eating red shirts all under a full moon. Shades of Night Of The Living Dead. Death from within which was Negan's plan all along.

Some highlights for me were the return of the Negan whistle, Daryl mounting an assault rifle on the handle bars of his motorcycle (I bet that was his idea seeing he is a biker), Dr. b/tch mouth getting a nice vampire bite on her neck, Carol proving that she is permanently emotionally damaged (which is prolly why she gets along with Morgan), Morgan going one on one, sometimes with a savior and sometimes with a savior ghost. I guess Morgan ate some of the same wild mushrooms which Rick ate just before seeing Lori.

Of course the best part was Tara seems to FINALLY be on her way out. The scene where she attempts in vain to assuage her guilt for being the one responsible for Dwight's escape was just pathetic and Daryl was having none of her bull sh/t. I will be SO pissed if Tara turns into a Dumpster Glenn.

Things ended with a Chekov's gun moment. You just KNEW when the lil Ninja dude was told to stay inside, there was no way in hell he wouldn't end up getting involved and doing something stupid. While I respect him wanting to be sure his brother's killer is dead WHY did he unlock the gate? He could have just as easily shot through the fence. Of course things go south with some bad dudes escaping and allegedly reformed savoir converts, including Mag's new boy-yeech, remaining to help.

Its sure to get interesting once the escaping Hilltop prisoners who Simon kicked to the curb, not to mention Negan himself, once he dispenses with the Junkie girl, catch up with Simon. He might have just went from a date with a hot iron to a date with death. If so, I'm hoping Dwight actually does it especially if Simon figures out Dwight has been playing both sides.

Literally the dumbest crap
corey_theis16 April 2022
This must have been written by someone who has never watched an episode of walking dead or who knows nothing about it. It's so poorly written it hurts my head to think about that someone outside of middle school wrote this. I'd be embarrassed if I had anything to do with this. May god have mercy on their simpleton souls.
