Warning: Spoilers
"Cipka" is a Polish 9-minute animated short film from 2016 that was the first work by writer and director Renata Gasiorowska and looking at the awards recognition she received for this one, it sure was a successful start to her career and most likely not her last work. There is no spoken language in here, so you can watch this one regardless of which languages you (don't) speak and you won't need subtitles. It is basically about a woman at home feeling the urge to masturbate. There is a guy watching her at times, some creeper, but it is really not at all about him. Still I liked the part where he is scared and intimidated by the female genital, but I did not like the fact that he came to her apartment. The film is dominant in the colors white, red, blue and black and it made for a nice choice of style. I personally liked the first half more than the second here where the genital actually becomes a living creature itself. Story-wise it is not too great of a movie, but you can still see the attention to detail. The highlight is maybe the orgasm part at the very end that was really done very tastefully and nonetheless very emotionally always. I am writing this review as a male and I am sure females have a completely different perception of the film. I personally think the ending was the crucial aspect why I eventually decided to give this film ***/***** and as such a positive recommendation. I wonder why it is so difficult to find, maybe because it is really graphic and the fact that the protagonist is topless and even naked most of the time may be the reason here that young audiences cannot watch it. I am glad I did though and I give it a thumbs-up overall. Go see it if you get the chance.

Engagingly honest and creative with it

A Polish animation about a woman trying to masturbate is probably my chosen viewing experience, but going with this one is quite enjoyable. The plot is what I describe, and the woman struggles to get in the right place before ultimately getting it right. It shows this in a creative way, with the second half of the film showing the title character in external form, getting lots of different sensations, speeds etc. As such it is quite graphic in its indirect content but yet remains accessible - a bit uncomfortable at times, as a man, but still seems very real and honest in what it shows.

The feeling of not being able to get there, of the things tried to get there, and the importance of different sensations, speeds etc - and that it may take more than a minute; all of this is well delivered and serves to break a taboo of discussing this topic. As such, I'm not wholly sure it is aimed at me, but I imagine those with direct "first-hand" experience will enjoy the film more. The stark animation style helps tone down the graphic feel of the film by its simplicity, but at the same time keeps the content there. There is not much to the film plotwise, but the honest and truthful depiction of the evening and how it plays out makes the film work.

Highly original...but also NOT a film to watch with your father!

This weekend, I saw this short film at the Philadelphia Film Festival. However, sitting next to me was my grown daughter...and she apparently felt a bit awkward watching this very mature film with me. It's no wonder, as the film is about female masturbation and the vagina!

The story is slight...a woman begins masturbating and a neighbor watches her through his window. Soon, however, her vagina (in particular her clitoris) begin having a life of their own...leaving her body and hopping about the apartment trying to satisfy its lusts.

The animation for this one is very simply drawn...using what appear to be blue, red and black markers. The characters are also very simple...looking a bit like a child drew them. As for the story, well, it's interesting but hardly enough to fill the entire short film. Slight but interesting.
