Much better than expected

We used to watch the Teen Titan series and enjoyed that immensely, however, seeing the latest series, it's not only lost its grit, it's become too stupid for kids in my opinion.

This movie however, turns that on its head. The story is pretty normal for the genre, but instead of being written for the prepubescent demographic that many of the X-Men style movies have recently, this is for adults who enjoy animated fare - me especially.

Don't expect either the original cartoon voices though, or for the characters to even have the same names as they did in the series, but do be ready for real action. I mean graphic action; the kind that has not been so sanitised as to make the writers of the original graphic novels shudder and wish they'd never agreed to let their material be abused in such a way.

I scored it 8/10 because it wasn't perfect, but it did make me glad that that I watched it and I would recommend it to any others who want a moving picture portrayal of some brilliant graphic novel material.

'Teen Titans: The Judas Contract' may not be among the best of the numerous animated superhero/comic book films, and there are some pretty good to excellent ones out there (as well as some disappointments). To me, it's a worthy effort though the divisive, leaning towards the positive, opinions are understandable.

It's certainly far more preferable than the series 'Teen Titans Go!', that was cheap, poorly written and was basically dumbed down childish stupidity that forgot basically everything that made the original series so great. 'Teen Titans: The Judas Contract' is a very welcome return to the dark grit and touching upon complex sensitive themes, both done very well indeed.

Animation consists of atmospheric colours, detailed character designs and backgrounds and fluidity of movement. The music has an ideal mix of haunting intensity and jaunty infectiousness. The writing balances light witty humour, poignant drama and dark tension.

Most of the story is very absorbing and it's well paced and coherent. It's standard stuff that doesn't break new ground by any stretch, but a lot happens and the film succeeds in making most of the story and characters interesting and well done.

Particularly well done of the characters are Deathstroke (much more than a typical villain), Blue Beetle, Beastly and Nightwing. Nightwing and Starfire's chemistry is incredibly well done in the comedy and drama. The voice acting is very good, especially from Christina Ricci and the revelation that is the late Miguel Ferrer.

For all those great things, 'Teen Titans: The Judas Contract' has shortcomings. It could have done with more development to Damian and Terra's motivations and character development to be made clearer and more consistent.

A slightly longer length by about 10-15 minutes may have helped perhaps. Just personal opinion of course.

Mature beyond its years and earth-shaterringly good

Among the collection of young heroes and their mentors, what really shines in Judas Contract is the villainous Deathstroke. More than just physical threat, he's brimming with delightfully despicable glow thanks to the writing and impeccable voice acting. New rendition of Terra also shows wide range of character spectrum, not many animations deliver a thin line between tragic heroine and crude villain this provocatively.

The early tone serves as reintroduction for the Titans, then slowly moves towards Terra and her questionable loyalty. Most of the portion goes to Starfire and Nightwing's romantic subplot. They have good chemistry and occasional kinky humor, mostly on Nightwing's expense. Starfire has attractive attribute which she is fully aware of, yet not overly displayed like in few comic interpretations. There's also a hint of her gullible self, a nice nod to the more juvenile side.

Some of the Titans are given more development, especially Beast Boy and Blue Beetle. These are mainly your typical self-acceptance routine, but still a kind exposure for the characters. Beast Boy's pun can be either amusing or rather cringe-worthy at times, a tad more than intended. Raven doesn't get the same amount of spotlight compared to the prequel, but I'm still amazed on how well the voice of Taissa Farmiga fits the character.

The main spotlight goes to new girl Terra, who is equally sympathetic and detestable. Her story is devastating enough yet her action is just short of being worthy of donning hero's cape. She and Deathstroke feed off each other malice, there's even one scene where it's made clear that she has romantic attraction to the much older mentor, inappropriately so. It's even more eerie considering that Terra look so very uncomfortably young. Miguel Ferrer as Deathstroke is simply amazing. The antagonist spews bile insults to any heroes he met in such authoritative nearly calming voice.

Judas Contract shows a lot of relationships and family oriented ties, yet it's the dysfunctional one that really rises above them. Sinister it may be, not every good will can mend broken bond and sometimes a scornful betrayal is a more humane way to bring the best of superheroes.

Enjoyable, action packed movie, one of better from DC in last few years

Another movie in this continuity based on new 52 but doesn't disappoint.

The story is little predictable thru second act but still nice and thrilling. Its filled with slight humor enough to make you smile here and there. Titans and their relationships are quiet enjoyable just like in previous one even if some voice acting could be better.

Action is same like in any other DC movie, not much improvement but it do the job right.

The one problem I have with this whole continuity is Damian, in the every movie It feels like his character progressed very little or not at all from the previous one. He is always that edgy kid that is grumpy and mean to everybody, It kinda feels wrong to me because he kinda started to connect with the titans especially Raven.

There are few minor details that bothered me but nothing too much to ruin the fun.

Pretty solid

It's a shame when straight to BR/DVD has 10 times better animation than, oh, let's say - Killing Joke that had theatrical run. Well, it's a shame for Killing Joke and pretty great for Teen Titans at least.

Story is fine, had some really nice parts and performances. Voice acting was damn fine and as you may have noticed already, animation was also good.

Pacing could be better and story wasn't something to get hyped about much. Ol' creep Deathstroke was great, tho. He was voiced by late and great Miguel Ferrer, RIP. Main plot was weak, the part with HIVE and brother Blood. Well, maybe that was only something to get the ball rolling and wasn't meant to be that important. But it felt kinda whatever in the end however you look at it.

By the way, I wouldn't guess in a million years that voice of Terra/Tara Markov was Christina Ricci if i hadn't read it here beforehand.

Overall, Judas Contract is one of the better animated DC outings lately. Yeah, some things could be a bit more engaging and better in all, but it was mostly okay. It's fun, a bit of action, a bit of drama, a bit of everything. I can totally recommend it to DC fans and casual viewers.

A good rebirth (even with things still pretty bad) after a lot of crap!

Okay, I personally don't like the direction DC has been taking in recent years with most of its animations. This includes "Son of Batman," "Batman vs. Robin," "Bad Blood" and, of course, the predecessor of the film that I'll speak about later, "Justice League vs. Teen Titans."

The reason I do not like it is not relevant here, what matters is that "The Judas Contract" left me with hopes of a better future within that medium. The movie is not perfect, far from it, there are things that I really found awful, like the flashback quite "loose" and without connection with the rest of the story that we have in the beginning, or the whole story involving Terra, however, these things are less annoying than in previous ones, and good and more engaging things stand out. Even Damian Wayne is no longer the center of this universe of animated films that DC has been creating for the first time, and that makes an incredible difference, he almost becomes a cool character!

It's worth the addition to Kevin Smith's participation here, seriously, why the guy is so venerated in the nerdy way?

The construction of the Blue Beetle story is really cool, they can tell you more about the character in a subtle way that does not seem to be played (even though they have no connection to the main story line). The scenes with the Nightwing are very good, with a very cool specific action sequence.

In short, "The Judas Contract" is a film that still has problems, but it is by far a lot better than I mentioned above, and despite everything, still provides a cool pastime, being fun and very fast!

One of the best Teen Titans movie!

Well, watching it in 2018, this movie is seriously action packed, gripping, thrilling and also imparts a bit of an emotional connect which makes it even more spectacular. The graphic action stands out--- just impeccable! The storyline's concise and on point. They've definitely gone deep into every character this time. Nightwing's role in this movie proves why he's Nightwing, and why he deserves to be the best protégé's of Batman. Damian too, on the other hand, is growing up to be one of the best in the business. Though I was disappointed I didn't see much of Starfire in action, her personal life was given more screen time this time, which in my opinion, is not that bad. The post credit scene makes me excited for the next Teen Titans movie, if it's in the making. Though I haven't watched the TV show completely, the movies have definitely made me a huge fan of Teen Titans/Titans.

Original Show Still Wins Out

The continued attempts to bring back the Titans is appreciated, but I have yet to see one as incredibly likable as the original series.

The movie series continues to miss Tara Strong's voice acting for Raven and the character Tara isn't nearly as adorable as the first go round.

That said, I enjoy Damian and the Blue Beatle's inclusion and the interactions between Starfire and Nightwing were great.

An awesome addition to DC featuring the Titans!

This was a movie I was skeptical about. I was not a fan of Justice League vs Teen Titans, but I did like the Titans. After sitting down and watching it on my day off, all I can say is that I'm very pleased and geeking out with excitement about this movie.

This movie is just flat out great. The voices are fantastic, the story is simple and awesome, and the characters and their chemistry is amazing. It was fun, emotional, coherent, and carries itself in a manner many question DC on.

It's shocking and astonishing how WB/DC has been able to hit it out of the park with their Animated Properties. Justice League Dark and the character's chemistry was amazing, the Justice League films are also very good, and now this movie just add's so much to the lore and mythology of the DC lore.

One of the things that worked out pretty well in the film was Deathstroke. I love this guy and he's amazing whenever he's on screen. His story with one of the main heroes was eh (ish), but he still worked. And I can definitely say I'm excited for the live- action version of the character.

I adore Nightwing & Starfire's relationship. This movie has a lot of it and it's handled extremely well. It's always alienated by comic writers and those high up in DC for whatever reason, and have this illusion that Nightwing is destined to be with Oracle. I personally think it should be the other way around, and this movie just illustrates that point.

I cant wait for more Teen Titans in whatever platform they bring it in. 9/10 from me on this movie. I can't wait to pick up the blu-ray and watch it again!

Not as good as I hope

DC's animation movies must be better.

1. Voice acting is terrible, actors just read their lines without passion or any involvement to the story, like nobody cares.

2. Animation is weird looking. Sometimes it's look like 60 fps, sometimes like 5 fps. Sometimes both, some object moves smooth and some are not and the same time. I watch Young Justice now, and it's animation is 10 times better.

3. Story. No twists, nobody die, you see everything happening miles away. Terra's betrayal story was way better in original Teen Titans TV-show.

4. Characters. Everybody are same. When Terra freaking out, everybody come with understanding and compassion; no inappropriate jokes from Beast Boy, no hardness from Damian, no indifference from Raven. Everybody Starfire now.

I love DC and it's nice to see favorite heroes again, but you can tell how small effort they put here. If you will watch random episode of Justice League TV show, Teen Titans or Young Justice and then look at Teen Titans: The Judas Contract or Justice League Dark, you will see how bad it become.

A bunch of boy heroes who look charming

Teen Titans now has a new member, namely Tara Markov who has the power of the earth element. Together with Tara, the Teen Titans now face new enemies and threats from a dangerous sect. Deathstroke's presence complicates all their efforts with the secret plan he makes.

Continuing the story of Teen Titans, now they have a new member. This film became a solo film for them. Has a pretty good conflict and is quite satisfactory. The conflict between Deathstroke and Robin is very eye-catching. For the main villain, Sebastian Blood, it seems that it's just sweetening the conflict between the Teen Titans and the Deathstrokes. Deathstroke as a third person who has his own plans but does not look seamlessly portrayed in this film. There is not much to see Deatshroke as the brain of evil. Likewise, Terra's inner conflict that begins to discover her identity in Teen Titans turns out to be a tool for Deathstroke. And baam... I suspect Terra will be the key to this movie, but it was unthinkable that she would become a villain even though she would eventually have to sacrifice.

Opening with a little story of Starfire's arrival which is a new insight, Teen Titans in this film is nothing but a movie with a group of boys who have their egos. Seeing the character development is much different from the previous Teen Titans movies. Jaime, who is troubled by his beetle aliens, Robin, who looks pretentious and pretentious, Beast Boy, who is still the same as yesterday, although a little silly. Tara Markov, as an introduced new member also did not make a good impression. It seems that he seems to be a bad thing even though he has a fairly important role. Dick and Starfire certainly underwent a change that they have now lived together as well for me to be the sweetening premise for this film.

Sub-par voice acting and inconsistent animation

With one or two exceptions (basically Beastboy, Deathstroke, and maybe Damien) the voice acting in this film leaves a lot to be desired. Monotone voices delivering rushed dialogue. The attempts at humor feel forced and unfunny. The animation goes from a fantastic scene to a scene that appears to have been animated by someone who has never seen a human being walk before.

As for the story, it's not great. The flashback scene to start the movie feels like it was just tacked on for giggles. Why add an entire scene to introduce Starfire, but do nothing to explain why Terra is supposedly a valued member of the team? Brother Blood can be a great character, but in this movie he is treated like a 3rd rate Bond villain.

Boring plot but rest was well done

Sam Liu is finally back again with this one after a slew of below average and bad animated movies. This was actually genuinely good and I might even say that I had a entertaining time watching it.

I think they could've expanded a little on that intro scene of Grayson in the original Teen Titans a bit more since I think that's what they did in the comics, and also beside Slade, the main villain fell a bit flat. The plot kind of bored me too but the characters were well done, the voice acting of course also, the fight scenes were very good but most importantly, the few scenes showing intimacy between Nightwing and Starfire were by far the best thing about this movie.

It was as good as the run time allowed it to be. It was entertaining and most of the characterizations were great, wish Damian Wayne wasn't in it because I hate the whiny little -shit but all in all I enjoyed it. This is the kind of thing that'd work so well in a TV series, once we've had enough time to get to know and love the characters. I just wish the writers of these newer titans would stop trying to force a relationship between Raven and Damian; it doesn't work. She needs someone to bring her out of her comfort zone and try to make her smile, not some wanna be bad boy that she can sit in a corner and brood with.

It was an OK movie, if a little anti-climatic.

I wound up watching this by myself as the hubby doesn't really like this arc with Terra and Deathstroke. I have to admit it kinda creeped me out a bit as well. While overall it wasn't bad, there were parts that made me a little uncomfortable. I would suggest a higher rating on this as there were a few thing I wouldn't want my 13yr seeing. Granted I'm sure there's worse out there but this had some things that were like umm, really. The writing was well done, I love a good one liner and this was full of them. The animation was what I would expect from a DC/ WB production. The voice acting was good, and worked well with the animation. Things I wasn't thrilled with: The whole skeevy Terra, Deathstroke relationship thing. Given the arc and knowing the story line I knew it was coming but I didn't expect her strutting around in lingerie throwing herself at Deathstroke. I know it was in the comics, but come on, he's old enough to be her father... grandfather?! It was just creepy. Also giving the background offered, it was unneeded. It wasn't a pivotal plot point and could have been left out or just hinted at if they were that hung up on the original story line. Things I liked: On the flip side I liked how they expanded on Nightwing and Starfire's relationship. It was nice to see actual progression there not just shameless flirting. I have to admit my juvenile side even liked the innuendos here and there. Conclusion: It was an OK movie, if a little anti-climatic.

The Domain where DC is more strong

Yes.. It is the comic book deep cut and this is what DC is good at. I love it when DC makes such movies with proper balance and no forceful big guns. This is a very very wonderful piece of art where they have successfully captured the comic book and didn't loose the awe factor as they lost in Batman : The Killing Joke. A gripping story with compact action and emotion. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE.

It's good, but I feel like Deathstroke needs a better motivation for revenge.

Well, I've never actually read the Teen Titans story arc, "Judas Contract". But, as some one who was familiar with Terra's betrayal from watching the Teen Titans animated series back in 2003, I have to say that this actually the closest that we've gotten to a PG-13 film adaptation of "Judas Contract". I mean, it's pretty much spot on how Terra was acting as an accomplice for Deathstroke, but it's just that Deathstroke had a better motivation in the comics for his revenge on the titans than in the movie. Still, I was actually amazed to hear the original voice actors of Bumblebee, Wally West (Kid Flash) and Roy Harper (Speedy) from Young Justice reprising their roles in the prologue portion of the movie and yes, I actually did cried when Beast Boy made that speech about a new member "replacing" Terra. But what really caught my attention was that Christina Ricci (Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family movies) was amazing as Terra and Nightwing's relationship with Starfire. I mean, that was more believable than Superman and Wonder Woman's relationship in JL: Throne of Atlantis and JL v Teen Titans and I hope that we do get to see more of their relationship reaching the next level in the future.

Still, this is not a bad movie adaptation of an iconic Teen Titans story arc. But, just needs to improve more on Deathstroke's motivation for revenge. I'd say give this movie a watch if you're like really into the Teen Titans and if you're a fan of their TV show. And this was actually a pretty good performance for the late Miguel Ferrer. May he rest in peace.

A emotional roller coaster that will leave fans in tears

If your a fan of the Teen Titans in any format you will love this film. This movie takes everything from the Judas Contract and everything that made people love the Teen Titans and bring it all together in one of the funnest films that DC has ever put out. Giving us something that would truly make Marv Wolfman proud of. This series pulls farthest from the new 52 and gives us something a little bit more old school. We get the bonds between Tera and Beast Boy, the energetic romantic love of Starfire and Nightwing along with a little bit of Raven and Damian peppered through it.

It also redeems Deathstroke after his laughable appearance in Son of Batman giving us the Deathstroke fans have been wanting.

Its fun, its dark and it is a emotional journey as we connect with each of the Titans. Learning about what makes them all heroes and what makes them a team as well. The film is able to have a good balance with each of the Titans and make them seem more touching and lovable as well.

Overall Teen Titans: The Judas Contract is a must buy for all Teen Titans fans

Great movie. Not disappointed.

This movie has everything a Teen Titans fan can hope for. The action scenes were awesome. The slight humour was well expected, at least from a Teen Titans movie, and it delivered. The animation just flows, typical D.C. The story was okay, but not very good. Still worth a watch. All we need now is a live action Teen Titans movie.

Better then Justice League VS. Teen Titans at least

I saw this movie in the Summer right before I was about to dive into some Tenkai Knight episodes.

I have to say this movie was 10X better than Justice League VS. Teen Titans and 1000x better then Teen Titans Go!

However, I do feel that this movie could have been better without Robin/Damian Wayne even though you see less of him in the film he is still a brat. The voice acting was still bad apart from Deathstroke (RIP Miguel Ferra) and Starfire (Even though it is weird seeing he talk proper English and seeing her wear human clothes).

Even though this movie was good I still feel this movie has ruined the original Teen Titans.

Disappointing

They've managed to make this filled with cliche's that are not completely even present in the source comics. Then there are the sexual references, they want to make it kids friendly but indirectly including all those and even pedophilia. There were certain character dynamics and action that worked but there were a lot of untapped possibilities throughout the film. It's disappointing from DC who've had a great reputation in their animated films.

Teen Leaguers

About: a group of teenagers trying to cope with relatships and survival vs the one eyed mercenary and the Hive.

Story: It's decent. The whole gang minus Cyborg unite.

Production: They could use more brighter colours. It's too dark of a movie. Animation is fine just the choice of colour can be a bit brighter in some spots.

Highlight: DeathStroke. He's so cool.

Should you watch this film? Yes. Give it a ok. If you like dark titans then this one you'll enjoy.

A Valuable Modification with Potential for Enhancement

A moving coming-of-age tale encased in heroic action, and it is based on the renowned comic book plot of the same name. Even for those who are not familiar with the source material, the film is a riveting movie as it explores themes of devotion, treachery, and the costs of courage.

For readers who are familiar with the comics, the underlying plot of treachery, loss, and sacrifice is still compelling and provides an intense emotional ride. Particularly the confrontation between Nightwing and Deathstroke, the fight scenes are thrilling and well-animated. The way the movie depicts Terra's inner turmoil and her tragic path is excellent. Christina Ricci gives an outstanding performance that perfectly conveys Terra's frailty.

Certain subplots and character development are dropped in an attempt to condense the intricate comedy arc into an 80-minute running time. Certain aspects, including the romance between Nightwing and Starfire and Blue Beetle's homesickness, seem underdeveloped. In contrast to the emotional complexity of other characters, Brother Blood occasionally comes across as a one-dimensional antagonist fixated on power. Comic book readers may discover that the movie deviates from the original work, especially when it comes to several character motivations.
