Psychotherapist Dr. Olaf Bode spontaneously confesses to Reuter having murdered a dead-boring patient, then refuses to make a formal statement or cooperate, claiming he simply tests for research purposes the commissioner's crisis reactions. Reuter fears it was a real crime. The team must first find a corpse to prove a crime, going through his patients, apparently only missing Dr. Karin Kuske, an ornithologist, is found in the bird sanctuary, which Timmermann isn't allowed to intrude but watches like a hawk. Bode's practice assistant remembers another patient who abruptly stopped attending. Reuter has forensic doctor Helene Sturbeck sign up as fake patient.
