Eva Longoria is joining “Veep” actor Matt Walsh in a comedy Walsh co-wrote called “Unplugging,” in which the two will play husband and wife. Longoria is replacing Isla Fisher in the role.
“Unplugging” is currently in production in Oklahoma, and Lea Thompson, Keith David, Nicole Byer and Al Madrigal have all joined the cast.
“Unplugging” is the story of a man who, after the death of a friend, is inspired to whisk his wife (Longoria) away to a remote town for a “digital detox.” Their romantic weekend quickly turns disastrous with unearthly encounters, strong edibles and bizarre locals. With no cell and internet service, they’re lost but end up reconnecting with each other along the way home.
Film editor Debra Neil-Fisher is making her directorial debut on “Unplugging,” and Walsh wrote the script with Brad Morris.
The film will be produced by Debbie Liebling, Kevin Matusow and Carissa Buffel...

Matt Walsh is used to playing the pathetic, sad-sack character Mike McLintock on the HBO show “Veep,” and he starts off just as miserable in his new film, a romantic comedy called “Under the Eiffel Tower.”
But while vacationing in France and falling in love, he shows he has a few hidden talents, among them being a great cook, a painter and an expert on bourbon. And he even has a neat trick for opening a wine bottle without the aid of a corkscrew.
“I remember reading that [in the script] and I was like, ‘What are you talking about?'” Walsh said in an interview with TheWrap about his new film. “ut I started YouTubing it, and lo and behold, you can.”

"Inhale the bouquet... Every glass of wine is a courtship." The Orchard has unveiled an official trailer for an indie "romantic coming-of-middle-age comedy" titled Under the Eiffel Tower, which premiered at a few small festivals earlier this year. The latest from filmmaker Archie Borders, the film is about a middle-age man who tags along on his best friends' family vacation to Paris, then humiliates himself by proposing to their 24-year-old daughter. He then runs off with a friend where they soon cross paths with Louise, a beautiful vineyard-owner. Matt Walsh stars as Stuart, and the full cast includes Judith Godrèche, Reid Scott, Michaela Watkins, David Wain, Dylan Gelula, and Gary Cole. This looks quite good, there's some genuine charm to the humor in it. Might be worth a watch. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Archie Borders' Under the Eiffel Tower, from YouTube: Stuart (Matt Walsh) is having a mid-life crisis.

The festival was forced to react to anger over the inclusion of Netflix titles, then the Manchester terror attack.
Monday’s night’s devastating attack in Manchester cast a pall over the final throes of a sluggish Cannes market and a festival selection that has lacked exuberance heading into its final stretch.
Flags flew at half-mast on Tuesday and there was a minute’s silence out of respect to the victims of the atrocity.
Swift messages of condolences came from the festival and the local mayor while Pixar cancelled a Cars 3 media event.
Security was never far from the agenda in Cannes. Heavily armed police were a constant presence and Cannes’ heightened state of alert kicked into action on Saturday when an ultimately harmless suspect package resulted in an evacuation of the Debussy during a press screening of Michel Hazanavicius’ Redoubtable.

Cannes is underway, providing a steady stream of news for cinephiles who couldn’t make the trip to France. Included among the many dispatches is the news that Veep’s Matt Walsh has landed a lead role in an upcoming romantic comedy. Walsh will be shilling and presumably swilling bourbon in Under The Eiffel Tower, which is precisely where his 50-year-old salesman character will have his heart broken by a woman half his age. He’ll then go on a journey of self-discovery, fueled by lots and lots of wine (in vino veritas and all that).
It’s not the freshest concept for a project—the report even describes it as being “in the vein of Sideways”—but at least Walsh will be joined by some comedic heavy hitters. His Veep castmate, Gary Cole, is on deck, as well as David Wain and Michaela Watkins. The French are well represented...
