More solid slow burn
snoozejonc3 September 2023
Bosch continues to investigate as certain individuals get nervous.

This is a solid episode that uses characters well and lays strong foundations for what is to come.

To a lay person the procedural scenes feel authentic with good exchanges between characters. The writers do not spoon feed, so you have to keep up with the investigation to make sense of certain dialogue exchanges between characters.

The best interactions for me are between Bosch and the victim's immediate family. Some of it is quite tense and the most intriguing parts of the investigation so far.

Characters like Eleanor, J. Edgar, Santiago, and Irving have good scenes that keep their arcs developing slowly.

All actors are on good form and the production values are strong.

For me it's a 7.5/10, but I round upwards.

Best episode of the season, which isn't saying that much.

My overall rating of "Bosch"'s Season 4: 4/10

So this episode has some interesting (if gradual) plot developments and generally good and charismatic actors. However, there are some weaker and more contrived scenes (the final one with Bosch and the wanted cop); the victim's family's whole plotline is cringy and odd; and Maddie's developing a strange ability of draining meaning and interest from any dialogue she's in: whether with Bosch or with Wish, she kind of reduces both to a sequence of empty, strange phrases and verbal cliches.

Does Eleanor Have a Death Wish
Hitchcoc14 April 2018
Harry continues to work between a rock and a hard place. Because of his personal integrity, he is one of the few that will blow the whistle on bad cops, if they are the ones responsible for the murder he is investigating. Meanwhile, demonstrators are vilifying the police, thinking they murdered the high profile black lawyer. One the side, Eleanor is getting in deeper and deeper with these Chinese guys. She seems fearless in the most severe circumstances. Harry is not her confidante and she is forging ahead, with little regard for Maddie's life and future. J. Edgar is itching to get back and is trying to convince himself that he can handle the dangerous world he has barely survived. Also, Irving is trying to feel his way through the controversies surrounding his office. It's moving along very nicely.
