As regular as Christmas clockwork, no sooner do the evenings begin to draw in and the firesides begin to warm the house with their soft glow, the seasonal TV and movie schedules come out. We all have our yuletide favourites – well-remembered classics from our childhood which sit alongside more recent festive fare – but one story reigns high above all else as the perfect Christmas tale.
Alastair Sim – putting the Og in ScroOGe back in ’51.
There have been many dozens of adaptations of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol over the years. Some set their scene in the traditional Victoriana of Dickens’ tale, others go farther afield, gender-swapping Scrooge or even anthropomorphise him as with the 1998 video classic – An All Dogs Christmas Carol. Anyone can be rich and redeemed! Those interested in becoming as wealthy as Mr. S can stop off at refuelcasino to try their hand at amassing their own well-stocked counting house.

A few months ago, a TikTok trend emerged where people would sing each voice part of the Mika song "Grace Kelly" to prove their vocal range, and the sound would spin-off into its own trend as the backdrop to tell a story that would increasingly get weirder or wilder with every new moment. During the trend's peak, an unlikely duo appeared to take a crack at it, with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell dueting the vocal parts of "Grace Kelly."
Reynolds captioned the video with "Late to the Grace Kelly trend but way early for our...

Richard Donner, director of the original “Superman” film as well as “The Goonies” and all four “Lethal Weapon” films, has died at the age of 91. Deadline reported that his wife, Lauren Schuler Donner and business manager confirmed his passing. No cause of death has been provided.
Richard Donner spent nearly two decades working on some of the best television programs of the 1960s and ’70s. His early work included directing episodes of “The Rifleman,” “The Twilight Zone,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” “Gilligan’s Island,” and “Perry Mason.” Later, he was behind the camera for “Get Smart,” “The Fugitive,” “The Streets of San Francisco,” and “Kojak.”
All that work in action and suspense paid off with back-to-back big screen hits in “The Omen” (1976) and “Superman” (1978). The horror classic starring Gregory Peck was nominated for two Oscars and won for Jerry Goldsmith’s score. The superhero film starring Christopher Reed was nominated for...

Andrew Lincoln is swapping zombies for ghosts in his latest gig, as The Walking Dead star has just been announced to be playing Ebenezer Scrooge in an upcoming stage adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol this December. The production will take place at London’s The Old Vic theatre and be livestreamed online, kicking off on the 12th and running until Christmas Eve.
This version of the timeless festive tale has been adapted by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and on December 17th, Lincoln will take part in a behind-the-scenes look at the socially distanced play as part of the Old Vic: In Conversation series, hosted by British TV personality Dermot O’Leary. Ahead of that, though, you can catch a glimpse at Lincoln in Scrooge’s Victorian top hat and coat below.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, 28 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 28; last year only 21 TV movies were submitted.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until July 13 to cast their 2020 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. In the past, voters were limited in the number of telefilms that they could put forth. In 2017 that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted. And, as opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.
