"Siskel & Ebert" The Pallbearer/Barb Wire/Last Dance/The Great White Hype/The Craft (TV Episode 1996) Poster

Gene Siskel: Self - Host

Quotes

  • Roger Ebert - Host : So, "The Pallbearer" rips off "The Graduate", and "Barb Wire" rips off "Casablanca". Now I didn't mind that "Barb Wire" recycled so much of its plot from "Casablanca", because bad movies are remade so often these days that it's refreshing to see them remaking a GOOD one for a change, ripping off a classic. But the movie never delivers on the underlying human tensions in "Casablanca", and is more concerned with special effects and violence, and how many different ways Pam Anderson's brassiere can be photographed. "Barb Wire" is NOT a good movie, but it's not a boring one, and in the annals of trash classics, I think it's eventually gonna rank pretty high.

Gene Siskel - Host : Not, not with me. Uh, I just, uh... I'm amazed with the cusp- like a comparison, I'm just thinking of what Ingrid Bergman would look like in Frederick's of Hollywood clothing, because that's really the attraction here, I suppose, in seeing Pamela Anderson, whether her breasts are gonna topple out of her, uh... "cat lady" outfit, or whatever she's wearing.

    [Roger chuckles]

Gene Siskel - Host : I mean, there isn't a whole lot more than that here, Roger. Um, I, I...

Roger Ebert - Host : There's a high energy level. They worked very hard in this movie...

Gene Siskel - Host : They have a lot of stunts.

Roger Ebert - Host : Well, yes, they do.

Gene Siskel - Host : I said they have a LOT of stunts. I found none of them entertaining, not a single one.

Roger Ebert - Host : What about the atmosphere? What about the, uh, Sidney Greenstreet character who runs a junkyard and sits around in a stupor...

Gene Siskel - Host : I didn't find him interesting, I think that, no, I'm telling you...

Roger Ebert - Host : As a movie fan, though, didn't you even get off on any of the cross references and so forth?

Gene Siskel - Host : I understand what you're talking about, but I was basically had HER being thrust in my face...

Roger Ebert - Host : Well, you know, I demand two things of a movie, this one only gave me one. It's not a good movie, okay, but it didn't bore me, so...

Gene Siskel - Host : It did bore ME.
