Amazon is set to open Les Misérables in limited release this week, but if you’re expecting a musical based on the Victor Hugo novel, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Directed by Ladj Ly, the film only shares a name with the popular Broadway musical. The drama tackles the issue of police brutality in France, showing that this is a super relevant issue not only in the United State but all over the world.
Based on Ly’s 2017 short film, Les Misérables is inspired by the riots that occurred in the suburbs of Paris in 2005. The story hits close to home for Ly as these riots had a long-lasting effect on his neighborhood, Montfermeil. The film follows Stephane (Damien Bonnard) who joins an anti-crime squad in Montfermeil after relocating. As he works with Chris (Alexis Manenti) and Gwada (Djebril Zonga), Stephane struggles with defusing the tense relationships between the resident gangs.

Rosamund Pike is an FBI agent who sends an ex-con undercover in a gritty crime drama that drips with menace
The Swedish crime novel Three Seconds by Anders Roslund and Börge Hellström has been relocated to modern-day New York in this big, chewy and sometimes indigestible drama thriller from director Andrea Di Stefano, who has adapted the novel with with British screenwriter Rowan Joffe. It’s a story about an undercover agent who, in time-honoured style, is informed by his duplicitous handlers that he can’t be brought in from the cold just yet.
Joel Kinnaman plays Pete Koslow, an ex-con out on licence and working for a Polish drug gang but secretly feeding information to FBI agent Wilcox (Rosamund Pike). The big drug deal whose exposure was supposed to be his ticket out of the game ends in bloody chaos when a cop is killed by one of the trigger-happy gangsters,...

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” swung into the China box office with a $97.2 million opening weekend, according to data from consultancy Artisan Gateway — the fourth best debut of all time for a superhero film in the territory, behind April’s “Avengers: Endgame,” last year’s “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Venom.” The June 28 China release came days before its scheduled July 2 North American opening.
The haul makes the new Jon Watts-directed take on the web-slinging schoolboy Sony’s second highest-ever grossing title in China, and the seventh best all time opening for a studio film in the Middle Kingdom. The sequel to 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” it has earned 46% more in its debut than its predecessor, and 17% more than “Captain Marvel.” Of the weekend total, $10.8 million came from its appearance on 620 Imax screens.

"I'm just trying to get home..." Warner Bros UK has unveiled a new, shorter 60-second trailer for the crime thriller The Informer, formerly known as Three Seconds. This was originally set for release in March (we ran a trailer last year) but then it got pushed back until August this summer, and is now being prepped for release soon. Not sure anyone even cares anymore. The film is about an ex-con who goes undercover and intentionally gets himself incarcerated again in order to infiltrate the mob at a maximum security prison. The film stars Joel Kinnaman as Pete Koslow, who gets "caught in the middle of dangerous people with their own priorities." The action thriller also co-stars Rosamund Pike, Clive Owen, Common, Ana de Armas, Sam Spruell, Ruth Bradley, Martin McCann, and Jenna Willis. It's odd they reveal so much in such a short trailer, but they're trying hard to...

There were 1.29bn admissions across the continent, down from the record 1.34bn in 2017.
However, box-office takings across 37 Unic countries have passed €8bn in total for the fourth year in a row. (Unic said it will report final figures as soon as all territories have reported their total revenues.)

The maturing Russian market was boosted by basketball drama Three Seconds this year.
At the end of every year, Russia’s box office is given a sizeable boost by the release of the biggest local film of that year in the late December holiday period. This happened to spectacular effect at the end of 2017 when Three Seconds (also known as Going Vertical) appeared in Russian cinemas on December 28.

"If you go back inside, you'll never get out..." Aviron Pictures has released the first official trailer for a gritty new crime thriller titled The Informer, formerly known as Three Seconds before this new title, a film about an ex-con who goes undercover and intentionally gets himself incarcerated again in order to infiltrate the mob at a maximum security prison. The film stars Joel Kinnaman as Pete Koslow, who gets caught in the middle of dangerous people with their own priorities. The film's cast includes Rosamund Pike, Clive Owen, Common, Ana de Armas, Sam Spruell, Ruth Bradley, Martin McCann, and Jenna Willis. Looks like one of those films that's extra convoluted just to give a crime action movie some plot that usually involves the CIA or FBI getting mixed up with criminals, and a good person having to risk everything to live. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Andrea Di Stefano's The Informer,...
