Slower movie but very enjoyable

The pacing of the movie is slower so if you are looking for action move along. I loved the main character's journey. Forced from her home and finally back after being forced to be "civilized". The clash between her culture and indoctrination is subtle. The viewer feels her struggle of trying to be what she is forced to be by those in power and her culture. Actress did fantastic job of conveying emotion with subtle facial expressions.

Warning: Spoilers
After Watching this i decided to look this story up & as far as i could tell she never had a miscarriage on the island & if thats true that really pisses me off why would u put that in the movie & representing that real person that lived if it didn't really happen, unless its some kind of symbolism. & some other things didnt seem to really happen either but other then that good movie just wish it would of bring a bit more Authentic to the real facts. Julia her acting i love she has such a strength & power she brings to a charecter especially to this one. 10 Stars for her.

Like mountain men westerns about survival

Of interest to those interested in indigenous cultures especially Northern tribes of America or tribes of Canada and to those who enjoy westerns about survival.

I did not like it

It's bad. I used to trap, when I was young & could walk, on islands but this was bad. We got stranded once, my trapping partner & me, I'm Native he was not, running out of stuff pretty bad in winter. But this was just bad. I liked the premonitions.

A very good movie about a very determined young woman forced to survive in a seemingly impossible situation. Torn between reliance on her Christian beliefs and her Native heritage she must deal with misfortune on a level that would break most people. A well-written, well-acted psychological drama based on true events.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie had it's moments maybe even quicker. I wanted to enjoy this movie but the cuts the director made made it hard to follow. They would talk about 2 simular things then flash on screen what they were meaning causing me to rewind and pause on a shot to figure out what they were trying to get across. Maybe it's for the people that know the story already so they know what's going on. I didn't know it so what I got out of it was her grandmother cursed her and her husband before their trek and causing the husband to die along with his unborn child. If you like the survival movies it's still worth a watch but "The Road" would be more interesting to sit through.

Kept My Attention

I enjoyed this movie. I don't know how much was fact or fiction, though.

I wonder why her husband's friends didn't come back for them when they realized they didn't return after two weeks?

I'll think of this movie for a long time after I've watched it, being thankful I have plenty of food and a good home out of the elements.

Wish I had abandoned this snoozefest

Perhaps the worst film in this genre I've ever seen. I thought of turning it off after about an hour when nothing was happening, but decided to stick it out. I was not rewarded for my perseverance. I actually found myself hoping all the characters would perish so this yawner would end. Pretty much every other survival film out there is better. Not only was it boring, but there was never any explanation given for why the characters were abandoned in the first place and there is no real sense for how long they were abandoned. This is supposedly inspired by a true story, which means it is likely mostly made up, so the filmmakers could have added anything they wanted. Instead, we're treated to an hour and a half of funeral music accompanied by the same amount of excitement one might experience at a funeral. Waste of time.

Great movie! I enjoyed it from the start to the end. I will definitely be watching it again: this movie just made the list of my top 5 favorite westerns. The events are based on a true story and I found it to be including much indigenous influence. Overall this movie may be a little slow for some, but it kept me interested in what was going to happen next with each scene. It's definitely a different type of "western", but I believe it narrates the events very well. Julia Jones and the actors playing Charlie do an amazing job!

I highly recommend this movie especially to those who enjoy history-related movies.

Definitely heartbreaking but I must see
shaunellsworth27 July 2023
As I sat and watch this movie I thought occurred to me even before I came upon it the things done to the native American people they get no months no days no remembrance their culture is all but wiped out even African American culture rules today because money can be made from it pretty much everybody who can be exploited has been exploited in America but you can't explore their native Americans because they don't believe in exploitation they just believe in love spirits the Earth and enjoying the moment of being alive there's no money to make in that so it's so sad that we don't know more about native American culture I know this movie is not based on hatred for native Americans it's just one more reminder of how they are so easily forgotten and the only time he will hear their stories if they say the movie so they can make money from it.
