With the release of Call of Duty: WWII we spend a lot of time trying to stay alive, be a skillful player and grind our way up to better weapons and scorestreaks. That can be serious stuff, especially once ranked games begin. What about a first-person shooter that just wants to be funny, and just a little bit offensive? Say hello to Offensive Combat Redux!
I’m a fan of a lot of the big shooters available, this includes the likes of Borderlands 2, Overwatch, and of course Call of Duty. I won’t say I’m the most skillful player but I recognise a good shooter, and what makes them fun. This is why Offensive Combat Redux! is a pleasant surprise.
Offensive Combat Redux! is based on the original Offensive Combat which was a browser based game back in 2012. What we have now is a game downloadable from Steam updated to fit the “Redux!

Every summer movie season has its highlights and low points – but from a commercial perspective, this year's edition was mostly just bleak. The final numbers aren't in yet, but 2017 is projected to be the lowest-grossing summer since 2006. (For perspective: That was the year that the Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises first launched.) Sure, people still spend tons of money at the multiplex – the final box office tally is estimated to be around $3.8 billion. But, with a few major exceptions, there simply weren't the breakout, must-see event movies and...

This review originally ran during our coverage of the Fantasia Film Festival. The Villainess is in select North American theaters today. The opening of The Villainess is dangerous. Stick this one firmly in the ‘We didn’t really ask for another sequel/remake/reboot to Flatliners but thanks all the same’ camp – It’s a crowded arena to be sure. If this new version was honestly marketed as having nothing to do with the original 90s film then it might spark a little more interest. Making it a sequel seems hoist it unnecessarily to a not-very-well remembered original which hasn’t exactly become a pop cultural icon.
Still, that’s the movie-making game right now. And throw a few thousand volts through us! This new trailer makes this generations’ dalliance with the afterlife look like fun. The new Flatliners is directed by The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’s Niels Arden Oplev and stars Ellen Page, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, Diego Luna, Kiersey Clemons, all of whom express the requisite arrogance and remorse their parts demand.

Arcade sticks. A peripheral that is usually reserved for the more hardcore gamer – the kind that knows their Sanwa from their Sanyo… Made primarily for those of use, myself included, who love the control the combination of stick and buttons that only an arcade stick can provide. But with the proliferation of gamepad’s with dual analog stick controls, the need for arcade-style joystick control has waned for the gaming public at large – making arcade sticks somewhat [even more] niche today.
However the arcade stick has always had something of a problem: cross-compatibility. How many of us had one arcade stick for the Wii (Tatsunokuo vs Capcom anyone?), one for the PS3 and another for the Xbox 360? Fair enough, a lot of the big fighting franchises had their own arcade sticks bundled with their games: Streetfighter, Tekken, etc., and that’s why we got so many. But other than the recent Tekken...

There are no talking foxes in Amat Escalante’s latest whatist, but chaos still reigns.
And though “La región salvaje” translates literally as “The Wilds,” one struggles to imagine a more fitting title for this surreal erotic thriller than “The Untamed.” The Mexican auteur, who last divided audiences with the punishing “Heli” (for which he won Best Director at Cannes), takes a cue from Andrzej Żuławski’s “Possession” in his tentacled pulse-pounder about the pain and pleasure of love in all its forms. This is the kind of experience that might tell you more about yourself as both a viewer and a person than you’re comfortable knowing; it’s also the most alluringly strange movie of the year so far.
It’s frequently beautiful, too, with cinematographer Manuel Alberto Claro (who also lensed “Nymphomaniac”) capturing the strange goings on and foggy environs in all their alien glory. “The Untamed...

With the recent news that David Ayer has dropped out of the latest attempt to remake “Scarface,” IndieWire’s editors traded emails on whether or not this troubled project is worth the effort at all.
Anne Thompson: Over the past decade, the studios have become accustomed to booking release dates before they even have a final script. This creates a rushed urgency to move forward, even when a movie is far from ready.
