Adult babies are a real phenomenon, and form of "ageplay" although this film takes the idea off in a rather more surreal direction. Real life adult babies have been featured on episodes of Jerry Springer and Extreme Love. Most, though not all, are male. For some people it is a non-sexual lifestyle, whereas for others it is a form of fetish.
"Coming to get you, Barbara", the first line spoken by a nurse in the film, is a lift from Night of the Living Dead (1968, 1990), although the exact Living Dead line is "They're coming to get you, Barbara".
In the UK the littles/ageplay/Adult Baby community is huge, over 5,000 people (estimated).
Sterculius, also known as Sterquilinus or Stercutus, was the actual Roman god of faeces. In Roman times, he was associated more with manure, to be used on fields. The Romans had other gods and goddesses dedicated to excrement such as Caca and Putrenda. Although these were all minor gods, they did receive a certain amount of worship back in the day.
