The Cinema Audio Society Awards gave a boost to the Oscar hopes of “Oppenheimer” on Saturday. The film took top honors at these precursor prizes that honor sound mixing over one of its Oscar rivals for Best Sound — “Maestro”– as well as “Barbie,” “Ferrari,” “and “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
The upcoming Oscars mark the fourth year for the Best Sound category, which combines Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. The Cas honors the latter while the Motion Picture Sound Editors salute achievements in the former.
Last year all five of the society’s favorites — “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Batman,” “Elvis” and “Top Gun: Maverick” — sounded good to the academy’s sound branch. “Top Gun: Maverick” won both awards.
In 2022, four of the five Cas nominees — “Dune,” “No Time to Die,” “The Power of the Dog” and “West Side Story” — went on to contend at the Oscars.

The Expanse is one of the most successful sci-fi adaptations on television in that it somehow has been able to tweak the story that it adapted from the James S. A. Corey series to fit the small screen while still faithfully honoring the overall narrative, which will conclude with a ninth novel in 2021. However, the news that The Expanse season 6 would be the show’s final run has fans of the books wondering how the remaining plot can possibly be wrapped up in a satisfying manner.
Without spoiling story details for non-readers, it is possible to speculate about ways that The Expanse writers could bring in elements of the currently unadapted novels in an accelerated fashion. This is especially true if they managed to presciently compact the rise and fall of Marco Inaros as the central antagonist in both Nemesis Games, the fifth book which forms the core of the upcoming season 5, and its successor,...

“Because you love movies” is the tagline for Sony’s latest For Your Consideration ads for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” showing Leonardo DiCaprio floating in his pool with beer stein and tape recorder, quietly studying his dialogue. The ad invites Academy members to feel affection for DiCaprio, as well as to identify with him as a working artist.
In the home stretch, Sony is putting Quentin Tarantino’s elegiac valentine to Hollywood — a summer hit — back in the minds of 8,500 voters who will start to fill out their ballots this Thursday. With 10 nominations, the auteur’s Critics’ Choice Best Picture winner, a loving recreation of Los Angeles in 1969, still has a shot at the Oscar, but may have to settle for a surefire Brad Pitt win for Supporting Actor and Globe and Critics’ Choice winner Tarantino for his third Original Screenplay win, along with some tech nods.

This Preacher review contains spoilers.
Preacher Season 4 Episode 6
Preacher is a show that can be difficult to review, if only because in any given episode, a lot of things happen. Barring a bottle episode or an episode focused on a specific character, there's a lot of ground to cover. For example, in “The Lost Apostle,” every major character in Preacher is active and involved throughout the episode. Granted, some of the scenes are simple—Jesus, Hitler, and Starr are snacking and negotiating around a conference table—but it's still a subplot to potentially discuss, and figuring out what to talk about can be a daunting task.
So, focus will be drawn to the scenes in Preacher that echoed one of my all-time favorite movies,...

Holy Hell. Wow.
What a finale!!
On Supernatural Season 14 Episode 20 all hell breaks loose -- again -- thanks to Chuck who made a surprise and unexpected visit to help Sam, Dean, and Cas come up with a plan to deal with Jack.
.
God is all powerful, and right now, God is pissed.
He had a plan to get rid of Jack and even made a special gun to get rid of the problem.

But he also was playing games with Sam, Dean, and Cas which they soon figured out and weren't too happy about.
Chuck fully expected that Dean would be the one to shoot Jack and was eagerly anticipating the event, but much to his surprise Dean didn't pull the trigger.
Dean was prepared to die alongside Jack since that was one of the caveats of using the special gun,...

The Supernatural guys are smiling in the above photo, but they definitely were not in good spirits — just consuming them — during Thursday’s episode. The source of their binge drinking: Jack’s death. Yep, the former Nephilim died, and in the opening minutes!
On his deathbed, Jack wonders what happens to someone like him after they die. When Sam can’t give him any answers, Jack replies, “Then it’s going to be an adventure.” And then the boy is gone.
Sam is shaken and drives off with a bag. When Dean and Cas catch up to him, they find...

Supernatural‘s Dean is looking dapper as Michael takes control of his body, while his loved ones are the worse for wear in newly released photos from the Season 14 premiere (airing Thursday, Oct. 11 at 8/7c on The CW).
The Apocalypse World archangel is seen conversing with fellow heavenly creature Anael (returning guest star Danneel Ackles), perhaps in an attempt to recruit her. “Our world only has 10 angels left. There are no angelic armies that can march and take over the world,” co-showrunner Andrew Dabb notes, adding that the first two episodes of the new season “really explore” how Michael plans to dominate our Earth.
