Decent bingewatch
alextillson21 June 2018
I found this on Netflix while sick. It's a decent show to binge on. I understand the more negative reviews but I don't think it's that bad. It's a tv show so of course there will be some manufactured moments, some catty. But I don't think they were trying to shame people for their individual style. I think the point was to show that clothing, makeup and hair are all worth playing around with and get them out of their comfort zones so they could be open to new styles. The same outfits for the hosts bugged me though. I cannot imagine they filmed all ten episodes in one day. If you like makeover shows, it's worth a look.

Big fat oof

While the show itself isn't that bad, the message is pretty messed up. It basically is telling you to care what people think, and don't dare to be different. Also the judges are honestly kinda mean.

some moments sparkle
I tried this ahow out fairly randomly and ended up finding a decent binge. You can find some charming moments from all of the hosts but I feel like they hold back. It does seems as if the series was shot all at once which may explain why they seemed lackluster at times. I enjoyed them giving makeup, hair, and wardrobe tips. I have not finished the episodes but I plan to. But I still would not consider this for a top 10 anything list. My favorite part was when a girl tells the hairstylist that he looks like the male version of the cowardly lion. I had been trying to place it! I have actually gotten emotional during several episodes, often during their challenges. It is nice to watch people find self-confidence or self-awareness. I don't think the hosts are too harsh but also dont always agree with their decisions.

How to become basic: The show
chantalrickerd14 June 2018
The premise of this circus is as follows: Take someone that dares to be different, have a bunch of strangers drag then down, take the insecure husk of a person left, and turn them into some generic meatbag that you wouldn't look twice at passing on the street. On top of it all it's hosted by three muppets that nobody should take any fashion advice from ever. A horrible show, for horrible boring people.

100% Basic

Attempted to watch this.. Quit after the second episode. Don't waste your time. The make up stylist looks like she coated herself in doritio dust, but then makes hypocrital comments to the participants about their tans. Daniel, the hair stylist, is good at one thing: blonde and brown byalage with beach waves. He has no versatility. Check out his instagram, you will see what I mean. All his portfolio looks EXACTLY THE SAME. The clothing stylist wears the same exact outfit with the same terrible earrings and shoes... IN EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. Now why would you trust these idiots to make you "hotter". Not only that, when they ask people on the street for their opinions on the contestants looks... All the people they ask are basic little girls and your occasional bro. Oh and they are all 20-something-year-olds. Over all this show strips the participants of their individuality. It rips them apart, judges everyone, and basically says "fall in line little sheep". SKIP THIS GARBAGE AND HIT UP QUEER EYE!!!

Square peg, round hole

Seems like they are shaming people for having non conventional styles. They are pretty cruel on several occasions to very kind people. My favorite part is the end where the person is like... well... you tried but I hat this style and I'm taking this off ASAP. They are so much kinder than the stylists. That said, a couple of the people, I'm sure it did some good, but more good could have been done by a professional therapist, rather than catty brits.

"It doesn't really look like me" -contestant "Isn't that the point?" -stylist

Captures this show in an excerpt.

I had to check the date on this show because it felt like something produced at least 10 years ago. They have the public rate people 1-10 is subjective and just mean. The stylist also doesn't seem to take people's personal style into consideration, just dresses people how she wants to. The people clearly need help finding alternative options, but this isn't the show for them. The judges seem to lose the individual's style in each episode.

Loved it! Binge watched in 2 days!

Warning: Spoilers
A person really must watch each episode beginning to end AND watch the entire season to truly grasp what the true purpose of this show is all about. Each individual is asked if each step in the process is okay. The team gets to know the inspiration of each individual concerning their personal sense of style. The team strives to keep each person's style personality entact. The team is not trying to change anyone, they're trying to show them a broader sense of style to help them reach their goals in life, ie, careers, social, relationships, and so on. I highly recommend this show. Would love it if Netflix would release another season.

Give the show a break
jazzstil26 June 2018
It's a decent show to watch in the background. They take EXTREME looking people and do a little dress-up. These people can choose to go back to their looks or they can take what they saw themselves look like and use that as inspiration for future looks. It's a light show, people just like to take things more serious than they are.

Ok I am currently watching season 1 and if I am going to watch a make over show I would like to not see the whole season with the stylist in the SAME outfit through the whole season! I wouldn't trust them given they didn't think to change the outfits for each eps... and those fake glasses really need to go but most of all change your own clothing for each eps.. really people

Candy TV
mightylight27 June 2018
This show is nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. While the judges can be catty at times, they also point out the positives of contestants and try to get them to embrace their natural beauty as well. Some of these contestants sleep in their make-up! And it is really weird that the hosts are wearing the same outfit every episode. However, the makeunders are actually impressive and worth watching for. And it's nice to see so many bad weaves and wigs going in the trash. It's the first season and obviously the hosts need some maintenance and training. But it's good candy tv, not to be taken seriously.

Great Contestants!!!
toactistolive8 July 2018
This is a makeover or as they often call it, a "make-under" show. If u are looking for a fun, silly show to pass time, this is it. I like the people who they pick to get on the show. It's exciting to see the changes in them. The hosts can be cheesy at times, but that's par for the course. I enjoy the makeup tips and hair tips given by them. The clothes tips are ones I have heard before from other shows, but she does a good job listening to the person getting a makeover, while still pushing the edge and using her expertise. Good show!!!

100% flop
brittenjohnson18 June 2018
1. The hosts are rude. They bad mouth the participants, talk low of them, judge them, and then have the general public judge them. All on their appearance. 2. The fashion stylist wears the same basic black pant suit...IN EVERY EPISODE. How do you trust a "fashion stylist" who wears the same thing during every episode? Also, her bangs... They are always in her eyes. Trim them up.. Come on. 3. The makeup stylist bashes participants for their fake tans. When she looks orange and over baked. Hypocrite much? 4. The hair stylist, Daniel, check out his Instagram. He is only good at one thing : light brown/blonde balayage hair with beach waves. If you look at his Instagram it looks like he has only one style, and has zero versatility. His work is basic. Also, he looks like he hasn't brushed his hair in ages. Looks like he hopped off the stage at a metal show, let his sweaty hair air dry, and didn't take a brush on tour. That's an ok look for someone who is a metal head at a show... But not someone who is supposed to be a hair stylist. Ew. 5. The premise of the show is to take someone who has an edgy or outlandish style, who is in their 20s and having fun, and make them basic and boring. Don't forget they rip these people down to the point of tears, and then when they are vulnerable the stylists make them into something plain and boring. 6. When they ask the public to rate these people, they primarily target females. They also pick the most plain Jane looking people off the street that would obviously give the response they are looking for. Biased. 7. I looked up some of the participants from the show, and all of them that I found reverted to their previous style. 8. One of my biggest annoyances though, when they ask the public to rate the photo of the participant... They don't show the picture they are using. So you have no idea if the picture is actually of the participant.

Over all degrading show. If you nominate your friend for this show, shame on you. Your setting your pal up to be bullied and talked down to. Embrace your individuality, and so should your friends

Only one style is accepted as good looking by hosts
werplant29 July 2018
The hosts don't even seem to have the best style themselves but knock everyone else's style down. The lady with big fake glasses and huge bangs could use a make over or "make under" as they so fondly say but she's the one saying everyone looks horrible. They also comment on everyone's horrible fake fans (which yes are pretty bad) but doesn't the make up artist girl see her own orange Oompa Loompa tan?!? But all in the all, the show is decently entertaining and some of the girls and guys they make over are really fun to watch and super nice and it's interesting to see different styles.

These people are mean!
indiamillward15 June 2018
I have to admit, I've only watched one episode so I might not be the most reliable source BUT what I did learn from watching this one episode is that the show sucks! I normally like makeover shows but there a few major problems with this show that I'm gonna list for you. 1: Making one episode about two people as they did in the only episode I watched was a mistake. You don't get to connect with the people or really learn anything about them so it all becomes very superficial. 2: I'm all for the part where the people on the street review the before and after pictures of the participants. Those people get to be utterly mean towards people they're probably never gonna meet but when the three makeover experts or whatever they are, are the same kind of mean but to people right in front of them then it's not okay! Those three "hosts" lack sympathy and it's like they care as little about the participants as I did. It's clear that they're "only doing it for the money" 3: They removed all the good parts about a makeover show. It's more about showing the end result more than actually showing how they got from point A to point B. The show is basically: "hi, there's a task for you, put this on, wear this wig that could potentially be your hair in 5 years, let me apply this make up on you, you look nice. OKAY NEXT!" Don't waste your time on this...

This show has to be a joke ?!
Loveunderlaw9 June 2018
I don't know any alternative chicks that would let someone change their style, nor put them down in any way. It's funny because I went from a super Preppy church guy, to a hardcore Luciferian LHP Goth & lets just say "I'll never return to my old boring style".

I feel much better in my skin now, I know my folks want me to be preppy again, but that will never happen. "Do as Thou Wilt & Harm None" is how I live now.

Look at our actions & not superficial things like our appeareance.

Love this show
noor-queen8421 June 2018
I like that they're not completely eliminating one's personal style, they give a lot of importance to the contestants personality; also it's quite raw- as in they follow up with the contestants after the show and they're pretty honest on whether they continue the style suggested or they go back to their old style. I'm surprised this show is getting bad rep, I think it's pretty decent.

Fun, empty TV
lavami-879-43416913 June 2018
I watch this show for the sole purpose of seeing some cool looks. The concept is pretty bland, the cast is bubbly on the verge of being obnoxious and fake, and the make-unders are almost always the same. One thing that really bothers me is how they put down the people's makeup, but make them over in eight layers of foundation, blush, highlighter and the longest goddamned fake eyelashes I've ever seen. Most of them look ready for a photoshoot instead of everyday life. And I don't even want to know what the clothes cost....

Worst show I've seen in awhile.
tmeadows-0627518 February 2020
Wow, what a terrible show. I couldn't even make it through an episode. Each judge has their own unique terrible approach, especially the male stylist. He couldn't be harder to watch "guide" anyone on style, individuality or personal empowerment. Also, the hair flips are just... foul. Let it be known I am an evolved gay man who appreciates masculine and feminine characteristics... this one is just so self-indulgent. The entirety of the show is toxic and sad. Do yourself a favor and dislike this on Netflix immediately and spend your time watching Queer Eye where a group of real men actually help people discover the better parts of themselves. I'm embarrassed for anyone involved with 100% Hotter Trash.

Good for laugh, but not at the contestants
trysavingtheplanet12 June 2018
Over a rainy weekend we watched season 1. This must have been taped in one hit as the 3 show stylist wore the exact same out fits for every single episode. I get not over powering the guest make under with the stylist own look but it was a bit odd. In episode 1, they begin the show by talking about how the main stylist a brunette woman in her 40's that 'needs' glasses. It isn't until later on that you realise the glasses she wears the entire time are actually fake with and without a lenses? I thought it may be to hold her wig in place towards the end of the season? The make up artist is drop dead beautiful and a dead ringer for Natile Portman, but looks a bit obsessed with the hair stylist who is an Australian gay guy and identifies himself as a 'otter' and seriously carries the show for personality, upbeat vibe and comedy. As far as make unders I felt the comments were a reality hit that frankly needed to be said to most of the people on the show. The challenges that they set each person was really well thought out and I feel did do the world of good for each person in building their self esteem and confidence in being them selves. This was done compassionately and worked! Whomever thought of those challenges deserves a medal in cognitive therapy!!! I hope the show continues. Wigs are a reality and I'm glad they use them in this show. I just wish they were a bit more open about it.

The makeovers aren't even good
froghomeboy27 December 2019
I got an imbd account JUST to make this review because this show sucks that much. Majority of the people that come in don't even have bad styles! They're unique and interesting! But then the three "stylists" strip them down and make them look like a Macy's catalog. And the new looks NEVER look good. In one episode the foundation was the wrong shade, in another episode the hair stylist dyed the woman's hair brown and it looked TERRIBLE. In addition, in almost *every* episode the outfits look bad or boring. Watch Queer Eye if you want a good transformation show.

Shut this TV show down!
lexicantrell29 November 2018
How to describe this show is by a few words, hypocritical, homophobic, and closed minded. This is in no way helpful to the person, it rips them apart and makes them feel less about themselves. I lost it on episode 3 where Grace became really homophobic and said that this individual of the LGBT community needed to dress more masculine. Just whiny parents and friends of the guest who can't mind their own business. A true friend wouldn't do this to someone that they truly cared about. The guests of the show are old enough to make their own decisions on how they dress and present themselves. They don't need their parents to be constantly griping about how "bad" they look. Let your kids live their lives without you constantly whining. Now I do agree that some of the guests needed guidance but I would help them achieve a look that they would want not something that is completely different from them.
