Directv via internet is a great way to watch all your favorite cable channels, but what features set it apart?
Figuring out which TV service to pick can be a dizzying experience. There are so many choices available, and most of the top providers have become hybrid services, providing options to watch broadcast and cable channels through traditional methods like a cable box or satellite dish, as well as internet-delivered plans. While this gives consumers even more flexibility when deciding where to spend their money, all of the additional options and features involved can also make things more complicated.
That’s exactly where The Streamable can help. We’ve been breaking down streaming options from essentially every provider since 2017, so you can trust our expert opinions about the best ways to watch top cable channels like ESPN, FX, TNT, Hallmark Channel, as well as locals like ABC, CBS, NBC and...

Most news consumers are not interested in reading news content that was created using artificial intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, according to the findings of a new survey released this week.
The survey, conducted by marketing firm Bynder, revealed more than half of American and British participants wanted news stories produced by humans rather than robots. Review-related content written by AI programs were slightly more acceptable, with around 41 percent saying they were Ok with machine-learning tools creating “advice guides” that can lead someone to buy a product or service.
The survey comes about one month after Adweek reported Google was pitching certain software-based solutions to large-scale news organizations with the promise that AI-powered tools could help in the research and reporting phases of a news story.

Google’s Gemini is facing accusations of discrimination these days. An alternative to the ChatGPT AI bot, Gemini has run into trouble as users claim it is too ‘woke’ and biased against white people. Gemini is a new and powerful artificial intelligence model from Google.
Gemini (via Google)
The controversy started when a user noticed that Gemini (formerly Bard) was showing incorrect images when asked about the Founding Fathers of the US.
Mike Wacker, a former Google engineer, accused the bot of manipulating search results. He even posted screenshots of his chat with the bot, where he asked for images of the Founding Fathers.
After the AI model had already been making waves for its bias, the CEO of Tesla Motors added fuel to the fire. Elon Musk slammed Google’s AI for its reply about white privilege, expressing his discontent with it.

As a young aspiring artist of minimal talent, Adolf Hitler had difficulty drawing human figures, according to the professors who rejected his application to Vienna’s fine arts academy. Sydney – Monday 6 November, 2023. The Sydney Opera House today announced two electrifying contemporary music events over summer with genre-raiding psych-rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra making their Concert Hall debut on January 30, and alternative R&b star Steve Lacy performing two shows in-the-round on 31 January and 1 February 2024.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s (Umo) appearance follows the March release of their definitive fifth album, V – an exquisite collection of songs that evokes the 70s rock and 80s pop of frontman Ruban Nielson’s childhood, while exploring love, loss and his Hawaiian heritage. The album makes a strong case for itself as his sun-bleached masterpiece, earning a 4.5 star review from Uncut and a place on The Guardian’s ‘best albums of 2023 so far’ list.
Umo initially achieved runaway success following the covert release of an anonymously penned track, ‘Ffunny Ffriends’, on Band Camp (2011). They’d go on to release five albums over the next 12 years, each...

San Francisco, June 27 (Ians) DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis has said that google-owned artificial intelligence (AI) company is working on a new AI system named ‘Gemini’ which will be more capable than that behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
According to Hassabis, the engineers are using techniques from the AI programme AlphaGo — which was the first to defeat a champion human player of the board game Go — to make Gemini, reports Wired.
Gemini is still in development and is a large language model (Llm) that works with text and is similar to Gpt-4, which powers ChatGPT.
“At a high level you can think of Gemini as combining some of the strengths of AlphaGo-type systems with the amazing language capabilities of the large models,” Hassabis said.
“We also have some new innovations that are going to be pretty interesting.”

Deceased actors have been brought back from the grave before: Carrie Fisher, Paul Walker, Peter Cushing and Harold Ramis, among others, have each been resurrected for the screen, with mixed results, thanks to old-fashioned CGI wizardry. But recent, startling advancements in artificial intelligence promise to deliver far more realistic results than ever before thought possible. According to the experts, the technology needed to create a totally believable deep fake 30-year-old Connery is just around the corner.

Shinya Tsukamoto has always been, to many, a man hidden behind the scenes. When thinking of experimentation within the Japanese pulp titles from the 90s and 2000s, it is likely that a figure such as Takashi Miike or Kinji Fukusaku would come to mind for the average viewer, and Shinya Tsukamoto might simply be referred to as “the guy who made Tetsuo: The Iron Man.” Yet as time goes on, Tsukamoto is slowly becoming more respected and recognized as a pioneer in the 90s and 2000s Japanese experimental pulp genre: A title which he certainly deserves. And so, now feels like a more-than-appropriate time to take a look at Tsukamoto's most thought-inspiring (yet highly-overlooked) masterpieces. This list will look at Tsukamoto's various overlooked contributions to the Japanese avant-garde film industry, from the beginning of his career to the current moment.

Holi has been an integral part of Bollywood pop culture and vice versa. After a couple of years of muted celebrations due to Covid-19, Holi is back with verve and vengeance this year. Ang Lee has been making movies for over three decades. That is an impressive career. That the majority of those films are good (and some are amazing) puts him on a whole other level. Born in Taiwan, the Republic of China, and educated in the United States, Lee has made extremely Chinese films and extremely American films, as well as some that mix the two cultures — plus the occasional excursion to the United Kingdom or India for a literary adaptation. But wherever his films take place, and no matter who stars in them, Ang Lee is always interested in what's under the surface of his characters — in people's emotional lives, their feelings for others, and what they keep hidden from the world.

Producers Mollye Asher (“The Rider”), Mynette Louie (“The Tale”) and Derek Nguyen (director of “The Housemaid”) announced the launch of a new production company on Tuesday called The Population.
The group will focus on producing film and TV projects by or about women, people of color, the Lgbtqia+ community and other underrepresented groups. Producer Mary Jane Skalski will serve as senior advisor to The Population.
The Population will also premiere the film “I Carry You With Me (Te Llevo Conmigo)” by director Heidi Ewing at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is in post-production on Josef Kubota Wladyka’s “Catch the Fair One.” The Population also has several other projects in development including a feminist horror film based on a true survival story in Mexico and a true-crime series set among the Asian American and working-class communities in Detroit.

“Our goal is to change the status quo of who gets to make movies.”
Producers Mynette Louie, Mollye Asher and Derek Nguyen have launched The Population to champion diverse storytelling and are developing a Mexico survival story and a crime series set in Detroit’s Asian American and working class communities.
While the projects are in their infancy, the track record of the three co-founders is likely to inspire the kinds of content creators The Population wants to support: stories in film and television by or about women, people of colour, Lgbtqia+, and other underrepresented groups.

“Alita: Battle Angel,” “The Lion King” and “Toy Story 4” lead all films in nominations for the Visual Effects Society’s 18th annual Ves Awards, which were announced on Tuesday morning. Those three films received five nominations each in the 25 categories encompassing film, television and special projects.

The morning of the big day has finally arrived. The toys are opened and the house is “knee-deep” in glossy wrapping paper. After a big breakfast or brunch, what are you going to do when the tots start to bounce off the walls? Well, you pile them in the car and head out to the movies, at least that’s what the studios are hoping. So after playing with the toys from Santa, how about a new animated kid flick that’s about toys? We’re not talking about Woody and Buzz (so last Summer), but high tech spy gadgets and gizmos aplenty. Bond won’t be back for a few more months, and he’s a bit too “randy” for the wee ones, so who’s more family-friendly infiltrates a snow covered fortress. His mission: stop Killian (Ben Mendelsohn) from acquiring a list of all active undercover agents from...

This season’s VFX Oscar race features bold, innovative animation, led by Jon Favreau’s “The Lion King,” the all-cg photoreal breakthrough by Mpc Film,; Ang Lee’s “Gemini Man,” which boasts Weta Digital’s most fully convincing digital human with Junior, the younger clone of Will Smith’s aging assassin, and Industrial Light & Magic’s innovative de-aging of Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci without markers or animation in Martin Scorsese’s Best Picture contender, “The Irishman.”
Additionally, Weta took facial capture to the next level with “Alita: Battle Angel,” the manga-inspired sci-fi adventure directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau. The doll-like cyborg with big eyes (performance-captured by Rosa Salazar) looked very convincing and badass.
But “The Lion King” blockbuster’s tactile photo-realism will be the one to beat, crossing the line between live action and animation with its stunning illusion of reality.

The pair met in New York City, when Aiello was only 16, and spotted Sandy, then 15, outside of a window at a pool parlor. “That minute I was hooked,” he told People in 1990. “I fell in love with the most beautiful girl in the Bronx.”

The Golden Globes nominees aren’t the only stars of awards season. Variety turned to astrology to assign Zodiac signs to this year’s nominees. Some selections required a little more nuance — Olivia Wilde’s “Booksmart” is a Virgo with a prominent Sagittarius rising and Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women” is a Sagittarius that wishes it were a Virgo. This thorough examination does not serve as an official predictions list, but Leos are known to gravitate toward the spotlight.
Aries: “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”
It would be way too easy to assign the mercurial sign of Aries to this year’s intense wartime entries, but instead, for your consideration: There is absolutely nothing more Aries on this list of nominations than “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” This show is all big personalities in suspiciously sharp outfits fighting to get a word in edgewise while (in Midge’s case) literally stealing the spotlight.

A pair of sequels hit theaters this weekend in Disney's Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Sony's Zombieland: Double Tap, the latter arriving in theaters ten years after the original. Both will earn spots in the top three, though sandwiched between them will be WB's Joker, which looks to continue its strong run and potentially top $250 million domestically by the end of the weekend. At the same time, still in limited release, Neon's Parasite is adding 30 locations and may find its way into the top ten if it can maintain momentum from last weekend. Looking at what will be its seventh #1 opening of the year, Disney will debut Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in over 3,700 locations. The film, which finds Angelina Jolie reprising the title role, arrives five years after the original opened with nearly $70 million and went on to gross over $758 million worldwide. However, the appetite for the...

It’s almost surprising that abnormal neo-noir hasn’t seen more of an obnoxious resurgence post-“Twin Peaks: The Return.” Audiences have been re-introduced to its flavor, here and there, with films like David Robert Mitchell’s languorous and controversial “Under the Silver Lake” or the strangely unsung Hollywood mystery, “Gemini,” starring Lola Kirke in an underrated performance. Canadian filmmaker, Albert Shin has moved weird noir out of Los Angeles and into a slightly more rural setting, Clifton Hills — one of Niagara Falls most popular tourist locations — for his tonally confusing, spooky conspiracy thriller, whose title also shares the name of its crooked little casino town.

Nicole Kidman got quite the compliment from her husband Keith Urban in his track “Gemini.”
The song, which comes from Urban’s most recent album Graffiti U, is, according to the country star himself, all about his wife. In it, he even drops a mention about what Kidman, 52, is apparently like in bed!
“She’s a maniac in the bed, but a brainiac in the head,” Urban, 51, sings of his famous wife of 13 years in the four-minute long track. Kidman recently joked she wasn’t exactly thrilled about her sex life becoming front and center in her husband’s music.

IndieWire does its best to sort the jewels from the junk and keep readers up to speed on the film, TV, and digital media that’s worth their time, but not even the most avid consumers of pop culture can find room for it all on their radars. Sometimes, telling an immersive story set in another world means being removed from your own, even if only for a week. The team behind the new six-episode fiction podcast “Earth Break: A Few Suggestions For Survival, With Additional Hints and Tips About How to Make Yourself More Comfortable During the Alien Apocalypse” got to do just that.
