Scar3829 August 2020
It has a decent cast and it's about werewolves, which I love. But oh dear what a shambles this was, what the hell has happened to Tom Jane? His acting in this was poor and don't get me started on Jay Mohr he was horrible, we saw the Werewolf once and it looked plastic I mean wtf!!! When will somone make a good scary Werewolf film, please.... Anyone?

Slow paced and generic...
paul_haakonsen5 June 2022
When I sat down to watch the 2020 horror movie "Hunter's Moon", it was because of two things. First, this movie had Thomas Jane on the cast list, and second, it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen. Sure, I had never even heard about this movie from writer and director Michael Caissie, but I am a sucker for werewolf movies. So of course I opted to sit down and watch it, as I stumbled upon it here in 2022.

The storyline, as written by Michael Caissie, did have some good aspects to it. But overall, then "Hunter's Moon" was not a particularly great or outstanding foray into the werewolf movie sub-genre. Yeah, it was watchable, but it was somewhat bland and generic.

The special effects in "Hunter's Moon" were limited. And the one and only time you get to actually see a werewolf up close and in detail, you just curl up your toes, because it looks atrociously bad. It was so obviously a suit and a mask with no articulation, much less anything that even resembled life in the details.

The acting performances in the movie were fairly wooden and rigid. Sure, it was fun to watch Thomas Jane and Sean Patrick Flanery in the movie, but neither of them had leading roles.

If you enjoy werewolf movies, then perhaps give "Hunter's Moon" a chance. But don't go expecting much of anything.

My rating of "Hunter's Moon" lands on a three out of ten stars.

Truly awful
kathmummybear26 January 2021
This film has the begining of an idea that someone has decided with very limited direction and or terrible editing along with what seems like terribly improvised script to make into a below mediocre film for eg "I trusted you !" Said to a character who they've only met once in a gas station while they were stealing a candy bar .awful predictable tripe save yourself the disapointment and go to bed early

FILM ON VIEWS review for Hunter's Moon
spottylittlegit25 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's godawful...even for a straight to redbox movie

I was fooled into thinking this looked decent due to the premise, the poster, and what looked like a decent cast (Thomas Jane, Jay Mohr,...that girl from Tucker and Dale), but I was flim flammed! This is not the sum of it's parts...and it's barely a werewolf movie

What it is is one big telegraphed twist, poorly done, with a self congratulatory pat on the back at the end. Surprise! The family ARE the werewolves! BAM! I mean mind blown right? (hearty WINK!) Except...the twist is pretty much spelled out from the get go, so the big reveal is more of a shrug and a "meh"

The acting is also surprisingly bad, for the cast they seem to have improbably scraped together. On top of that, the casting is just...off. The "bad boy" thieves look straight from Disney casting, the eldest "teen" daughter looks to be in her thirties, and Jay Mohr just looks bored. Or maybe like he's hosting SNL but never bothered to rehearse his lines. Thomas Jane on the other hand does seem to be the only one giving a decent performance, and does a decent job, but by doing so only serves to highlight just how poorly done the rest of the movie is that is constructed around him. He is giving an B+ performance in a D+ flick, which just feels out of place

One reviewer (VIEWS ON FILM...which I decided to poke a little fun at) described this as "An American Werewolf In Cali" as well as comparing it to The Howling. Buyer BEWARE...it is nothing like either. That's like saying Sharknado is a lot like Jaws, or Alien is very similar to Mansquito. You are comparing a fine wine to gutter runoff that happens to have a few grapes in it

This is a werewolf movie with barely any werewolves (which is a blessing....they look like hot garbage), with an alternate title of "the Orchard" which fittingly enough is also barely about an orchard. The whole thing felt like a rejected episode of Supernatural. It was bad, dull, and felt unfinished, and rather than being a good time, instead left me feeling a sense of empathy toward Thomas Jane, that his career has taken a trajectory where he is reduced to doing something like this. he deserves better...and so do we

If you're looking for the next great werewolf flick, trust me, this isn't it, awful acting from usually reliable actors(they MUST have been in it for the paycheck only) terrible plot, & don't even get me started on the ridiculous werewolf costume, seriously folks, give this one a wide birth.

Utterly dreadful
markjohnevans7925 March 2020
When I saw a clip of this movie I thought it looked decent enough. It gave the impression of a group of people holed up in a house under attack by werewolves. Unfortunately that's not what it is! What we have here is some very low budget, woefully acted, poorly written mess of a movie. Avoid. If you want a movie like that which I originally thought this was then instead check out Dog Soldiers to see it done properly.

Not As Bad As Everyone Says
lynnspook14 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I feel like I just figured out the inside joke here. Instead of the big, bad wolf burning down the three little pigs' brick house; the three wolves are inside starting a fire, and the "little pigs" are outside. It wasn't the worst movie I've ever watched. It had a decent plot, maybe it needed better direction. Middle of the road B horror flick, worth a gander.

Why all the hate
armadilla172 April 2020
Reading the reviews you would think this was the worst movie ever made but believe me there are a heck of a lot worse. Was it An American Werewolf in London? No. Is it worth a watch? Yes, if you're stuck on what to watch and come across this.

Disappointed
mayrasilva-9080926 March 2020
If I could rate this movie a 0 I totally would. I've never been so disappointed in a movie as much as I was with this one. I wish I could get my money back for horrible movies like these. Some of the worst actors were in this movie, the whole storyline was dreadful. There should've never been a reason to want to film this movie, who would come up with this stuff? I'm so disgusted, this was so awful. Disgusting, disturbing, don't spend your money or your time. This movie shouldn't be out to the public, all its going to do is disappoint you.

could have been good
SnoopyStyle22 January 2021
The Delaney family moves into a farmhouse with an orchard which is the site of a recent murder. The parents leave for an unspecified trip leaving their adult daughter Juliet (Katrina Bowden) in charge of the two younger teenage daughters. The girls are harassed by three creepy thugs before the arrival of a creepy Sheriff.

It's a B-horror which could have been good. The family needs to play the start much more innocently. There is far too many foreshadowing. When the turn happens, non of it is surprising. That's its one big shot and the movie missed it. There is also an issue about the monster. It's not the look but that could better. It should somehow connect it with the family so it should eliminate the start. It needs better writing. This script is not good but it could have been.

Not as bad as everyone says
lilcreep-217804 December 2020
It's far from good. But i don't regret watching it. Never had a clue as to who the werewolf is/was.

There are far worse movies with higher ratings out there.

Oh my word. Conceptually really good
WeWatchMovies6 April 2020
But executed horribly, unfortunately. We will watch any horror movie B or less, especially werewolf movies. So this could have been pretty good if the acting and writing were better. We like Thomas Jane but he acted like a weird hick and there really was no reason why he had to make the character like that. Good twist, but they kind of set it up too early so you figure it out. You also don't really like anyone in it.

UTTER RIDICULOUS CRAP!!! ONE OF THE WORST DTV FLICKS I'VE SEEN IN AGES
lukem-5276026 October 2020
What a rubbish piece of shi#t film!!! The actual story makes No Sense & everyone acts ridiculously stupid especially the annoying blonde hoe big sister, i hated her character & the other two sisters did nothing in the film at all!!! A weird family move to a small redneck town where a werewolf is supposed to be hunting around a big orchard behind the house where the weirdo family have moved into. The acting is terrible & the usually Awesome THOMAS JANE is completely wasted as a boring corrupt Sheriff!!! A completely wasted werewolf movie & a waste of a good actor. A terrible, terrible B-movie & one of the worst I've seen in a long time

Alphabetti spagetti
jcallender1212 January 2021
Who in the name of Kylies Hotpants thought this was a film, really!!!, i mean really!!, if i tipped a tin of Alpabetti Spagetti in front of a dyslexic i'd get more sense. I try to look for a glimmer of hope in every film I watch but this was the equivalent of getting an arrow through the neck and finding an electric bill hanging from it. Gargage.

What was I thinking? 81 minutes lost
jbathie25 January 2021
I could've watched paint dry, snow melt in the spring, or sandpapered my eyes, literally anything else would've made more sense.

Did a director suggest "we need an actor who's known, but not high priced? Someone we can get to act like an uneducated dimwitted sheriff?"

And someone thought of Thomas Jane? What's even more shocking is that he agreed to do this. It's awful, and I mean that in the most literal terms There's no character building, no plot to follow, nothing at all.

Part of the story involves a very in-depth plot that was somehow arranged by strangers in less than a few minutes. And it sets the tone and pace for the entire movie. A tone that just continues to disappoint scene after scene. In fact, I don't think any part of the transitions between them added up to a plot.

But, like a toothache, you just poke at it with your tongue, I stayed on until the end. Hoping beyond hope that at least one of the people claiming to be actors and actresses would pull a hail Mary and prove themselves as masters of their craft, but nope.

There is a part you'll enjoy though. Most would've left the theatre before this, but the credit? They were a welcome sight.

I get why Jay Mohr is in this...
joao_m_neto12 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
...I mean... he needs the money and his career is crap, so he takes anything coming his way (and still boasts about his impression of Christopher Walken, which is bland at the very least).

I do not get why Thomas Jane went along with this...

Amanda Wyss' career is clearly on the downfall so... she was the perfect actress to portray Mohr's wife (and she looks like The Joker with no makeup... ew!)...

The girls... why did Juliet's part portray her as such a slu_ !??!? (there is a "t" missing but I want to avoid bot censorship.

Honestly... not even Bambi Woods was that easy!!!! Even for the script or to tie knots in the plot... I believe it was uncalled for.

The story: for the lack of a better word: ludicrous. How did they find the hitch-hiker killer in half a day? What do they do for a living that they can buy houses with orchards and QX80s whilst moving free-willingly around the Country?!?!?

And the ending is so absolutely void... which makes me dwell on the reason why I watched it all the way through... I guess age is getting the best of me...

Pfff...

Doesn't bear fruit.....
s327616930 June 2020
"The Orchard" or "Hunters Moon" or whatever this film is actually called, does not bear fruit. Well lets just say nothing overly palatable, anyway.

Aside from the inexplicable presence of Thomas Jane who i have a lot of time for, there is little to hang your hat on. The story is thin and characterisations, a little clumsy. It also takes far too long to get off the ground, in what is essentially a B grade horror flick.

Interesting twist in the end but in most respects, this is very ordinary fare.

5/10.

Great story, but lighting
dlassmillenium19 April 2020
The movie has serious lighting issues, where you can barely see what is happening or the characters in this film. Majority of the film is way too dark to see.

ayesha_lea23 June 2023
This movie is absolute garbage, completely unwatchable, the acting is atrocious, dialogue/script ridiculous and the execution just fails beyond belief ... why this even got made i do not know. Its cringe how bad the whole storyline is!! Just nothing at all redeemable about this pile of crap. Do not watch do not watch do not watch do not watch and have i mentioned DO NOT WATCH the monster in his $20 halloween costume is laughable and the "twist" is well its SO funny it is the one minute of movie that truly makes it a comedy. There is nothing else to say about this except do not watch save your time find something else.

Decent enough for a low budget show.
topsecretemailaddy14 September 2021
Look - American Werewolf in London this isn't. But then, I didn't expect it to be. What it IS, however, is a decent enough stab at a werewolf flick. Sure, there were a few of the standard tropes, but if you just sit back with a metaphorical box of popcorn, you won't have a terrible time. Just don't go in expecting this multi-million, CGI'd to death show. It's not that, not trying to BE that. So why compare it, knowing already that you'll be disappointed.

'Hunter's Moon' (2020)
mfnmbvp12 October 2023
Was excited to see something with Jay Mohr in it again, since I rewatch 'Cherry Falls' all the time, as it's one of my favorites, and how can you go wrong with Thomas Jane? But unfortunately they have minor bit parts, the rest of the cast is basically unknown to me and probably you, the acting slightly above amateur at best, the dialog is okay, but slightly cheesy. The cinematography / production value is decent, we'll give credit where it's due, but the entire plot and story line is completely nonexistent. Even the opening sequence seems to be two separate scenes sloppily slapped together for whatever reason. There is no climax, nor hardly anything interesting or exciting happens throughout the entire film. I'll give it the 4 for Jay Mohr and Thomas Jane, but a 3 is definitely more accurate of a rating, as reflected by the users here on IMDb.
