Department Cop
This game is another honorable mention in favorite games for the Atari 2600. The "Activision" company has always had a good selection of tiles which have become sort of the first video console classics. This game is one of them in my book anyway.
This game is sort of a mix of "Donkey Kong" and "Chase H.Q" which I think is cool there really aren't that many chase video games. Just like with the video game "Chase H.Q." your chasing down the bad guy but here unlike that game it's not a car chase but a foot chase, which I like as it helps make the game unique on it's own, let alone there aren't many games that involve foot chasing. It's also like "Donkey Kong" because of how each of the levels have multiple platforms which are all the floors of the department story.
The gameplay is very good, it's basic as you simply going forward, running to catch the robber before time runs out. As your involved with the chase you must clear away from the obstacles presented like toy airplanes, trucks and other Toy to slow and hinder your progress. The game gets harder and you get further which I like as I always want to see if I can complete the round at its most difficult.
One of the pluses that can help give you an advantage is you have elevators and escalators which can get you up floors quicker. Though it's the elevators that are even more useful as you can actually elevator yourself not just to the floor the robber is on but ahead of him and you might be able to get the drop on him, that is if you time it just right.
But what I really like is the graphical presentation, it's colorful and from how it's formatted you really get a feeling like your really in a department store. Each of the floors are different and contain different obstacles which really keep things interesting.
So, if your into the vintage video games, this game is a steal.
Rating: 3 and a half stars
