The inspiration for this movie for director Hayden J. Weal was the idea of taking the time to get to know the people around you. He told Stuff website: "I feel like we don't interact or feel things for people we see every day as much as we used to. Like, when I was a kid [in Te Awamutu], I'd talk to people on the school bus, you know, you would kind of get to know everyone around you. But now, people don't talk to each other on public transport, or they barely know the people they work with and see every day, people like security guards and receptionists and things.''
The film was nominated for 2 New Zealand Film and TV Awards in 2017 including Best Supporting Actress for Nova Waretini-Hewison and won the one gong for Best Sound Design in a Feature Film for Phil Burton.
