Raw and beautiful

This was a look into a world of masculinity that often treads into toxic territory - the boxing ring. Overall, the cinematography (the use of mirrors especially) enhances the storytelling. The characters are believable and well-played. This could easily be a full feature instead of a short. The internal struggle of coming to terms with being vulnerable is well done here. Rewatchable. I was left wanting more.

Could have been better or worse

Warning: Spoilers
"Heavy Weight" is a British 13-minute live avtion short film from 2016, so still relatively new and fresh. Director is Jonny Ruff and his two writers here also act in this little movie. One of them, Chuku Modu, is actually enjoying a pretty successful career right now as he was in Game of Thrones, and is now a regular on The Good Doctor. Anyway, this film here takes us into the world of sports, namely boxing and you don't need to know anything about Pacquiao, uppercuts or number girls to know that this is a really masculine sport where homosexuality is maybe still a problem, maybe even more than in football where the subject is frequently discussed. And this issue is what the film elaborated on. There's a new guy training at the gym who may bring up certain feelings in one of the established fighters. That's all I want to say about the story. Actually, that's almost all there is even. This was a film that still felt almost too long, even at just slightly over 10 minutes. But I have seen worse gay-themed films in the past and at least it does not feel entirely unrealistic like many of these. But on the other hand, this also should not mean that I felt it was a good movie. Script could have been way better, acting could have been slightly better too. If you like the genre, then you can go for the watch here, but honestly you won't be missing much if you decide to skip it. It's a thumbs-down for me. Not recommended.

box. and more.

one of films with a strange purpose - to give questions. not a great story or impressive acting. only a form of if about the rules, expectations and the role of challenges. about appearances. and the right answer. the competition between two boxers. a new one and a star of box hall. the tension. and the last scene. one of the films who propose to imagine the deep essence of relations. and the right way to discover the other. a box story. different by many others. but useful. for this small motif.
