This is comedy gold. Honestly, I have never seen a film which offers you pure comedy for free, with no obscenity, no profanity or violence. You can watch with family and it's free to watch.
Comedy in Tamil Cinema today = Someone insulting/mocking someone else based on how ugly they look, racism, fat shaming, gender shaming and double meaning. 75% of jokes nowadays are like this and you know that. Here is a film that mocks itself. The actor says go ahead and laugh at how pathetic my acting/dancing is.
(This is a debut film for all technicians except few actors with absolutely no experience. Most of the scenes were taken with single shots as they wanted to finish it ASAP as every minute of their shoot costing them to run out of production money).
Ofcourse the film is intended to be a serious film, but the poor quality and acting will make you sit through the entire film and have fun mocking their mistakes. The makers are fine with viewing like this. Maybe it is like a new genre like a spoof film. There is no reason to get angry, because the makers are not forcing us to watch this, or saying they have made best film of the decade, but they humbly accept they made really mockable art and it is our wish to watch it or not watch it.
Even the most celebrated Tamil directors like Karthik Subbaraj started with low quality short films with bad acting which are even worse than Yaaruku Yaaro. (Check his youtube channel). Stanley Kubrick thought his first film was so bad, that he bought all copies of his first film "Fear and Desire" and destroyed it. In a way, this film would give hope to all new film writers and directors, that they can tell stories better than this, they can act better than this. Without feeling ashamed, go ahead and present your art to the public and embrace the response from audience no matter how bad it is. You have to start some day, and the first work is going to suck and people are going to laugh at that most likely. But that's okay, because most of artists can survive only if they accept that.
A film's aim is to entertain audience at the end of the day. And Yaarukku yaaro is 10/10 in that aspect, because everytime I felt depressed, I watch this film and felt better!
