A good opener
An interesting and intriguing start.
Flawed and secretive characters always make for a good watch.
Looks like being a slow burner.

Hard to Like Character
Our first view of Marcella is of her in a bathtub, a nasty cut on her head, with walls covered with blood all around her. We now go back several days and are introduced to her in fits and starts. She is at the end of a marriage to a man who says he no longer loves her. She violently throws him out. She is sort of an Incredible Hulk who goes off in rages; she even Carrie Underwoods the husband's car. She is a former police detective who failed to solve the case of a serial killer who disables his victims and then suffocates them with plastic bags over their faces. She immediately asks to go back on the job she left ten years before. She is edgy and short with those she confronts. He husband works for a big real estate developer with a cutthroat female boss who takes no prisoners. We are also introduced to other characters who will be revealed along the way. I'm not sure I will like this series because at this point she is so volatile and unlikable.
Marcella 1.1
In the opening scene Marcella is in a bathtub, regaining consciousness. She is naked and bloody, with numerous injuries. As the camera pans we see there is blood all over the bathroom walls, which might indicate she fought with someone there. She seems to be confused and afraid. Her blackouts are a central theme.
In a flashback we see her riding in the back of a cab, wiping tears from her face. She rings Jason, her ex, asking for help.
We see that her blackouts are usually accompanied by violent episodes.

Intense....
... everything about this drama is intense, the story, characters, music, and of course the central lead, Marcella, with a c.
Don't watch this if you're stressed, or have had a bad day, it'll make you more anxious, such is the nature of the show. It's very well made, superbly acted and very intriguing, on the downside none of the characters are relatable or likeable, everyone is awful, Marcella is a tyrant, not sure yet if it's alcohol or another reason.
Sinead Cusack is awesome as Sylvie, I have never seen her in such a role, she is a monster.
I didn't care for this when it first went out, on second viewing however I liked it. 7/10.

Pregnant?
I read the description of the episode and watched it, if Marcella IS pregnant, then I TOTALLY missed it! LOL. Anyway, the show I'd pretty good, but not always easy to follow. LOTS OD characters introduced too quickly. But, after several episodes, I have a handle on the characters, but the story and suspects I need a score card for. Partly that's due to my watching habits. I multitask as I watch. I suggest you give the show a try. I like it, but the stories within stories are a bit much for me.

No thank you
No. Just, no.
More than halfway into the first episode, and absolutely no reason to watch any more. It would help if 1) the situation is intriguing, and 2) you give a good goddam about any of the characters. Also, a little humor would help, but no chance of that in this episode.
I see that this show is well rated, and has lasted for three series, so apparently I'm in the minority. But Marcella is deeply unattractive as a character with no redeeming, or even interesting, qualities, beyond being insane. And no one she works with seems to give a damn about the case.
So, no.
