Four contemporary bakers are flung into the Victorian era to experience for themselves what it would have been like to ply their trade across that era. It's one of those ever-so-endearing "living history" type programmes which I'm fond of and fortunately it's fronted by slightly stiff but solid experts. The four bakers are fairly interesting characters, and it's quite entertaining to see them struggle with (or against) some of the brutal methods and recipes of yore. What's alarming in the years since are how common the brutal divides of Victorian Britain are becoming again and how, upon looking up the bakers, they have also become swept up in it. Sobering. It feels like a whole era has passed again since 2016.
