Burning Soul

What makes this a little more interesting is that it leaves us to surmise a lot of what has, is and will go on as two sailors - "Pieter" (Teo Falck) and "Hendrick" (Rasmus Hansen) face the wrath of their captain and crew. By the looks of the tattered flag and the armchair in which their judge and jury "Capt. Steins" (Mal Bailey) sits, they have all been the victims of a shipwreck, but it seems more like that the danger to this pair comes from the assumption that their unchristian behaviour is more akin to that of Sodom and therefore it's their souls that have been shipwrecked. There is lots of seascape photography, and very little dialogue to augment this short film about faith, loyalty, tragedy and love - and it does look good. Don't expect detail, though.

rich cultural references. beautiful cinematography. good story. fundamental themes. a film who reminds basic truths. adventure and forbidden love and conquest of a new land and the rules and the bitter triumph. a film about self definition. against each risk. about curiosity and jealousy. and a great director giving the right frame for the right story. because, the good point is the impressive image. the touch of toes, the judgment, the moment of intimacy and the eye discovering the secret, the mix between past and present, the great story, like a trip among memories because all is familiar, in other forms, but familiar, and,the references , many obscure at the first sigh, to the Bible, Romantic poetry and art are the key of the force of seduction for this provocative, admirable short film.
