Olivier Kaefer, co-creator of the real life show the film franchise takes inspiration from, sued producer/writer/director Thomas Langmann on the basis that he wasn't made aware of or paid for this sequel and hadn't received royalties from the original film.
A scene in the film's trailer featuring Jean-Luc Lahaye appearing to make light of pedophilia caused controversy in France, leading to it being cut out of the final release of the film.
The previous film, Stars 80 (2012), was the tenth most successful French film of the year in France (25th overall) with nearly 2 million tickets sold. Conversely, this sequel was one of the the biggest flops of the year, with just over 300 thousand tickets sold.
