A Fun Flanders Episode with a Lot of Heart,
lesleyharris306 June 2016
Fland Canyon is a terrific Simpsons episode with a very well written plot and a ton of funny scenes. It's an interesting set up as we are taken back in time to when the Simpsons went on a trip to the Grand Canyon with the Flanders, it was a wise choice to do this as they were able to play around with things that they could not do had it been set in present day, such as being able to allow Maggie Roswell reprise her role as Maude Flanders. I did feel that the characters were a bit "out of sync" at times, I understand that this is because it is a different time in their lives, but when Marge and Homer say or do something they never would usually, it did throw me out of the episode a little. I loved the relationship which is formed between the Simpsons and the Flanders here, as we see them working together in order to stay alive, it added a lot of depth and I would love to see the two families head off on another adventure in the future, the dynamics between them are very different, which is why it works so well. A lot of laughs and heart, Fland Canyon is certainly an enjoyable Simpsons.

A crisis brings the Simpsons closer with the Flanders during a vacation to the Grand Canyon.

Finding Laughs and Lags

"The Fland Canyon" episode of The Simpsons features a mix of humor, with some well-executed jokes that stand out. However, it takes a while for the comedic elements to hit their stride, particularly in the first half of the episode where the jokes feel a bit forced and lengthy. One standout moment involves Homer humorously misinterpreting Flanders' sniffing as a reaction to the scent of his mustache, evoking a genuine LOL moment.

Unfortunately, the episode suffers from a rather straightforward narrative that lacks complexity. The simplicity of the storyline fails to engage the audience, making it challenging to invest the necessary attention to fully comprehend and appreciate it. While the humor eventually finds its footing, the overall lack of a compelling narrative may leave viewers wanting more depth and substance from the episode.

Well done!

Perhaps, this is one of the best episodes from Season 27, on par with "Barthood" and "Halloween of Horror". But what's really great about this episode, for the majority of it, is the artwork. The artwork was quite visually striking and stunning.
