As many of our favorite television shows are receiving cancelation orders, from Station 19 to Blue Bloods to series that barely make it out of the gate, like Still Star-Crossed or Prodigal Son, it's refreshing to find shows with renewal orders.
It's rare to see new shows that offer something different when it seems like everything has been done, especially among all the remakes and reboots.

However, The Irrational managed to corner a vacant market we didn't even know existed.
Sure, it's a police procedural show.
But it also works in our love of pop psychology with a bit of personal drama to spice things up.

Lashana Lynch is set for a starring role in the Sky and Peacock series adaptation of “The Day of the Jackal,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Lynch will join Eddie Redmayne in the series, which is based on the Frederick Forsyth novel of the same name that was subsequently adapted into the hit 1973 film from Universal Pictures. The series hails from Universal International Studios and Carnival Films, which is part of Uis.
Per the official logline, the series “is a bold, modern reimagining of the beloved and respected novel and film. This contemporary drama will stay true to the DNA of the original story while delving deeper into the chameleon like ‘anti-hero’ at the heart of the story in a high octane, cinematic, globetrotting ‘cat and mouse’ thriller, set amidst the turbulent geo-political landscape of our time.”

Only a handful of writers in television history have built a bona fide empire. Few who have done so have been women or PoC. Regardless of what you think of her shows, TV royalty Shonda Rhimes deserves respect for her groundbreaking success. Rhimes' workplace dramas have biting dialogue, steamy workplace affairs, and characters fighting tooth and nail to win. There's a passionate fandom surrounding her work, which makes the viewing experience doubly exciting.
With eleven shows underneath the "Shondaland" banner, it's not a surprise that not all of them are hits. Few contemporary shows have come anywhere close to matching the success of her first project, "Grey's Anatomy," and each subsequent series, in some way, has to contend with that legacy. But Rhimes is nothing if not prolific. Her career has only gotten more expansive since that first smash hit. Since moving from ABC to signing a deal with Netflix,...

Actress Lashana Lynch didn’t exactly need convincing to sign on for a starring role in the much-hyped 25th installment of the James Bond franchise, “No Time to Die,” she just wanted to know what the heck she was working with. For the rising star of such outings as “Captain Marvel” and “Still Star-Crossed” (a “Romeo & Juliet”-inspired TV series in which she played the complicated role of Rosaline), finding the unique elements of seemingly standard roles is her sweet spot. What, she wondered, was so special about the MI6 agent that was going to be part Daniel Craig’s final outing as Bond?
“The last meeting that I had with [producer] Barbara Broccoli, [director] Cary Fukunaga, and Daniel Craig was one of many questions,” Lynch said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “Because, [in] the last two meetings, I had read sides from other Bond films, and I didn’t know...

In the weeks since the Christmas Day release of “Bridgerton” on Netflix, critics have at turns praised the series for featuring Black characters in the predominantly white historical romance genre, and taken the show to task for how it handles those characters and the reality of racial dynamics in 19th-century London.
An adaptation of the beloved series of romance novels by author Julia Quinn, “Bridgerton” tells the story of Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she seeks a husband under the restrictive societal norms of the Regency era. She eventually finds love in Simon Bassett, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), London’s most eligible bachelor and, in the Netflix adaptation, a Black man.

Torrance Coombs is starring in a romantic summer movie on Hallmark this Sunday called Romance In the Air, and we had a chance to chat with him.
Torrance has been a TV Fanatic favorite for years. His resume included spots on The Tudors and Still Star-Crossed, and The Originals, and starred for years as one of King Henry's sons, Bash, on Reign.
All of that keeps him pretty busy, even in 2020. Just the other day, he was online with his male castmates from Reign courtesy of Wizard World on Twitch.
He's so fun to watch because he seems like he's only half-serious. He's got a great sense of humor, which you can read on his face. When we jumped on the phone, I said I wanted to keep the conversation as light as Romance In the Air, and he good-naturedly responded, "Lovely. All right, sounds good. I'll be sure...

To be fair, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Phil Coulson has never been much of a name-dropper — in fact, through five seasons he proved to be downright modest about hanging with the Avengers prior to the Battle of New York. (R.I.P, if only for a bit.)

Casting on The Lost Boys TV show is really beginning to heat up – and fast.
Earlier this month, for instance, we brought you the news that The CW had cast Sarah Hay, Cheyanne Haynes and Haley Tju as the infamous Frog Sisters, who now join an ensemble cast comprised of Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey, Kiele Sanchez, Medalion Rahimi (Still Star-Crossed) and Dakota Shapiro. Not bad, right?
But that’s not all: Per Deadline, it’s been confirmed that Del Zamora (Mayans Mc) and Rio Mangini (Everything Sucks!) have also climbed aboard The Lost Boys as series regulars, with the latter star poised to step into the shoes left vacant by the late, great Corey Haim. Yes, that’s right; he’ll be playing Sam Emerson in The CW’s pilot episode – itself based on the 1987 movie of the same name – though no further details on Mangini’s character were revealed at the time.

Joel Schumacher’s 1987 teen vampire horror The Lost Boys is an underrated gem. Sure, most of its awesomeness is down to a hugely charismatic young Kiefer Sutherland as the lead vampire, but that’s a casting that goes a seriously long way. It seems like someone at The CW’s as big a fan as I am, too, because they’re currently putting together the cast for a pilot that should herald a full-blooded Lost Boys TV show.

The CW, a network that currently has its hands full with its extensive superhero slate, is looking to branch farther out into bloodsucker territory, as a small screen reboot of The Lost Boys is on the way. Before you dab your brow in anticipation of a “why are they rebooting my favorite movie Ever?!” rant though, just wait, as plans for the show actually aren’t as dour as they might seem.
For one, we know that former Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey and Kingdom alum Kiele Sanchez will be headlining the project, while Medalion Rahimi (Still Star-Crossed) and Dakota Shapiro (Valley of the Boom) will also have major roles in the series. Not only that, but Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke will be getting behind the camera for the pilot and the script was penned by scribe Heather Mitchell, whose draft apparently got “everyone excited” and eager to pump new blood into the long-dormant franchise.

FX’s next TV project is brought to you by the letter “Y.”
The cable net has handed a series order to its long-gestating adaptation of Y: The Last Man, based on Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s comic book series.

ABC Developing Drama ‘The Marriage Lie’ Based On Book From Michael Cooney, Kim Moses & Michael Offer
ABC has put in development drama The Marriage Lie, inspired by Kimberly Belle’s bestselling book of the same name, from writer Michael Cooney, producer Kim Moses, director Michael Offer and ABC Studios, where Offer and Moses are under deals.
In The Marriage Lie, written by Cooney, Iris and Will have been married for seven years and life is as close to perfect as it can be. Amber Tamblyn has joined the cast of FX’s Y, the network announced on Wednesday. In the sci-fi/drama pilot, she’ll play Mariette Callows, the daughter of the president of the U.S. who is expected to follow his conservative footsteps into the political arena.

We present to you a tragedy in one act: TNT has cancelled the William Shakespeare drama Will after just one season.
The axing was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, a day after Will wrapped up its ten-episode freshman season. Laurie Davidson starred as the iconic playwright, back when he was a young aspiring writer just trying to get his plays produced. Olivia DeJonge co-starred as Will’s love interest Alice, with Trainspotting‘s Ewen Bremner playing anti-Catholic lawman Richard Topcliffe.

Summer 2017 will unfortunately be remembered for its real-life horrors, from Nazi-loving white supremacists marching in Charlottesville to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Americans looking to escape the barrage of bad news didn’t do it in the movie theaters, where domestic box office was at its lowest in decades. But they did flock to television — and two shows in particular.
HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” aren’t new, but they are small-screen staples that experienced tremendous ratings lifts this season. Even as audiences continue to move to streaming services and other platforms, there’s still room for appointment TV, as viewers still watch linearly (or, at least, relatively fast via time-shifting) in order to stay in the pop culture conversation.

Shonda Rhimes just proved FX Networks chief John Landgraf right.
Last week, Landgraf warned reporters that the traditional broadcast and cable networks faced a “titanic struggle” versus Silicon Valley and its “winner take all” philosophy.
And then came Rhimes’ blockbuster deal with Netflix, announced Sunday night, as if to underscore his point.
The “Grey’s Anatomy” creator’s decision to leave ABC Studios and park her Shondaland shingle at the streaming giant represents a huge blow to not just to Disney/ABC but to commercial television itself. Rhimes creates appointment television – something in short supply in the broadcast world these days.
