Inspector Falke - Wrath of God
As this episode opens a man of Middle Eastern appearance is approached by a member of staff at Hanover Airport; having confirmed that he is 'Aziz' he is taken through a side door. It soon becomes apparent that this is the wrong 'Aziz'; instead of being a Syrian being trafficked this is a Jordanian businessman with every right to enter Germany. A struggle ensues and Aziz is killed. The next we see of him is when his body plunges from an aircraft undercarriage into a pool. As Falke is in Hanover conducting security checks at the airport he is put in charge of the case. He is partnered with Julia Grosz, one of the airports security officers. Meanwhile the correct Aziz has been found by the trafficker. He recognises Aziz as a returning terrorist who had threatened to attack the west so imprisons him in the basement of a remote building while he decides what to do. He is messing with some very dangerous people but doesn't want to be the person who let a terrorist into the country.
This was a rather good episode. It started well with the murder at the airport followed by the body in the pool... the latter may be unlikely but provided a good scene. The introduction of Falke to Julia was rather fun and provided the episode with a good early twist. Their professional relationship develops nicely through the episode as they work, and face danger, together. The criminals are fairly interesting; while they are obviously bad people they aren't entirely unsympathetic. There are plenty of tense moments and a degree of tragedy before the case is ultimately resolved. The cast is solid; Wotan Wilke Möhring continues to impress as Falke and Franziska Weisz does a fine job as new partner Julia. There are also notable performances from Christoph Letkowski and Cem-Ali Gültekin as the trafficker and the would-be terrorist in their scenes together. Overall a good episode.
