"Back to the 2015 Future" is an American English-language live action short film that was released in the exact year mentioned in the title, which means it has its fifth anniversary this year. In fact, if I am not mistaken this is also from October 2015, so it all fits in terms of the anniversary. It runs for slightly under 16 minutes and this included a surprisingly long closing title sequence. I mean it is not a three-minute movie and it makes sense that the crew included really many people given the subject, but still it felt too long for such a short film. The writer and director is Robert Beaucage and he is not a young filmmaker delivering mostly through fan films about famous movies as you could guess from this one. He has been in the industry for a long time already, so a bit surprising he made this in 2015. i guess real success never happened for him sadly, but atill alright that he keeps trying. Also, at least the above assumption is correct in the sense that he worked on other short films based on really known movies. But what this one here is about I do not really need to say I suppose. I have never been a huge (not even a small) "Back to the Future" fan, so maybe this is one reason wyh the overall outcome did not do too much for me story-wise and felt a bit dragging already, even for such a pretty short movie. However, there are good moments like the blog reference for example and I also felt that the Michael J. Fox actor looked really like the original. Definitely no coincidence he got cast. He also played the part alright. Nothing too wrong with the cast here. And the music is pretty good as well, but I guess many have come across the tune and that also includes those like myself who never loved the franchise, perhaps partially because physics and time travel have never been my favoorite subjects. Still this trilogy is better than Dr. Who as far as I am concerned. Okay, now we are are really drifing away from the outcome here. For me it is a bit of a close call on one or two occasions, but as a whole, this gets a cautious thumbs-down from me. Still worth checking out if you really adore the franchise. Don't expect it to turn you into a fan on the other hand though.
