Manoj Bajpayee, known as one of India’s finest actors, is adopting a mass-market action hero persona in upcoming film “Bhaiyya Ji.”
The story, where Bajpayee’s character faces off against a powerful man and his henchmen to seek revenge for wrongs done to his family, is literally ripped from the headlines. The actor read the real-life story in a newspaper several years ago and it stayed with him.
“I wanted to do an independent film and really explore this mindset of revenge, where it comes from, really analyze it and find the psychology of revenge in the human mind, that fascinated me,” Bajpayee told Variety. While shooting courtroom drama “Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai” (2023), the actor mentioned it to director Apoorv Singh Karki, who was similarly fascinated by the idea.
“I just wanted his opinion on it. But this guy jumped up and said, ‘I’m a big fan of mass entertainers,...

National Award-winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta is all praise for actor Rajkummar Rao, with whom he has often collaborated. Mehta says the success of the actor makes him feel like a happy parent.
Rajkummar made his acting debut in 2010 "Love Sex Aur Dhokha". But it was through Mehta's film "Shahid" in 2013 that he gained recognition. The actor again collaborated with the filmmaker with projects such as "CityLights", "Aligarh", "Bose: Dead/Alive", "Omerta" and the recent digitally released film "Chhalaang".
Talking about Rajkummar's evolution as an actor, Mehta said, "The beauty is Rajkummar has never lost his humility and generosity that he always had as an actor. He has remained that same person. What has changed is that Rajkummar has become really popular."
The quinquagenarian reminisced about how he and the actor would walk freely on the street and shoot "guerilla style" on the roads in the past.
"Now that is not possible.

There is a basic challenge that Hansal Mehta throws, while narrating the story of Big Bull Harshad Mehta. Instead of letting his story unfold through the mind games of his protagonist, which would have made the series lucid and enjoyable for all, he often tends to immerse the narrative in a mire of heavy stock market lingo and logistics.

Perhaps Hansal Mehta was deliberately being uncompromising, to underline the fact that his 10-part web series is a rare Bollywood effort that truly tick-marks all criteria of the genre that Hollywood defines as the financial thriller. Yet, from Wall Street to Margin Call to Equity to The Wolf Of Wall Street -- you could even include Money Monster by a stretch -- we have seen enough instances where crime drama woven around money does not necessarily let money...

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta feels we need more films to be made on the LGBTQ community. "There has been an absolute change in our society as well as our cinema regarding LGBTQ people. But I really think that we need to make more films about them, and need to normalize the subject as much as possible," Mehta told Ians.
Mehta made the widely applauded "Aligarh" in 2015, which is inspired by the real-life story of a professor who was suspended from his job because of his sexual orientation.
"From 'Dostana' to 'Kapoor & Sons', 'Aligarh' and 'Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan', a lot of films have been made about LGBTQ people. The stories have evolved with time, for sure. The filmmakers are all well-known chroniclers of the Indian condition. Sinha had a fruitful Bollywood innings, including big-budget sci-fi “Ra.One” starring Shah Rukh Khan, and then changed direction with religious intolerance drama “Mulk,...

CinemaAmong the films discussed was Jayasurya's 'Njan Marykutty', which the activists felt was not an accurate representation of trans lives. Neethu JosephManoj ParameswaranJayasurya may have picked up the Kerala State Award for his performances in Captain and Njan Marykutty, but trans rights activist Sheetal Shyam believes the film hasn't made the transgender community proud. At a panel discussion held at Kochi Muziris Biennale on the topic of the representation of the transgender community in the media, Sheetal, who hails from Kerala, said, "The film Njan Marykutty got this acclaim only because of actor Jayasurya’s value as an actor and the movie has not made the transgender community proud." “When a person from another community tells the story of trans people, it will not be our story,” Sheetal further added, although the film had won praise from a section of the trans community in Kerala when it was released.
