So understandably, The Walking Dead's Jeffrey Dean Morgan and director Greg Nicotero feel bad the franchise inadvertently confirmed that key characters would survive the final season when announcing several spin-off series. For months now, fans have known that Morgan's character, Negan, will star in the new series Dead City, previously titled Isle of the Dead, alongside Lauren Cohan's Maggie. Additionally, Daryl (Norman Reedus) is getting his own show set in France, and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne's (Danai Gurira) love story will continue in yet another series. This...

AMC is expanding upon the universe of “The Walking Dead” with several new projects, one of them being a spinoff series centered on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), two characters from the main series. That series had originally been titled “Isle of the Dead,” but AMC has announced a brand new title for the upcoming spinoff this week.
The Negan/Maggie series is now titled “The Walking Dead: Dead City.”
“Walking Dead: Dead City sees Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.”
Expect the six-episode series sometime next year.
Eli Jorné (“The Walking Dead”) has been set as the showrunner.
“This is a very big day for the expanding universe we are building around The Walking Dead,...

France has a burgeoning eco-system of virtual reality and augmented reality producers, and is one of Europe’s leading Vr/Ar hubs. The UniFrance Rendez-Vous with French Cinema in Paris, a showcase of French projects that wraps Monday, included a Vr/Ar showcase, with recent projects demonstrated by Wide Management Vr, VRrOOm and Atlas V. UniFrance’s online MyFrenchFilm Festival also includes three Vr projects – “The Scream,” by Sandra Paugam and Charles Ayats, “Isle of the Dead” by Benjamin Nuel, and “A Bar at the Folies Bergère” by Gabrielle Lissot. Variety looks at this emerging sector.
UniFrance published studies in 2018 and 2019 on foreign sales for the country’s Vr sector, which revealed that there were 109 foreign sales of Vr titles in 2017, generating total sales of €41,963, and 204 foreign sales in 2018, with total sales of $240,000. UniFrance emphasizes that these results show that the market remains embryonic, but notes that French sales agents such as MK2 Films,...

This bona fide classic may be, as Gregory Mank says, the best American horror picture of the 1940s. The teaming of Boris Karloff and Henry Daniell is sensational. Producer Val Lewton gives the players career-best characterizations and dialogue, and director Robert Wise adds tension and chills. Bela Lugosi is in for a supporting part. Icing on the grave-robbing cake is a new 4K scan from the original negative — we can forget the dull and dark prints seen in the past.
