Nice scenario and well put together, but lacks the push to be funny or awkward even if it does a bit of both

A man out to dinner with his partner has hidden a ring inside a salad – however it goes to the wrong table. The table it ends up at sees the man play along with his girlfriend's belief that she has just been proposed to.

The concept of this short is a very nice one, and I liked that it was made in a very compact window of time over a few days (while the restaurant was closed during the day). There is potential for awkwardness, drama, comedy, and something more heartfelt. The film touches on a lot of this, and it is quite enjoyable for doing that, however it is also limited in what it does. The delivery is slightly comedic, with a soundtrack that reinforces that feeling – one I did not like. It is never laugh out loud funny though, instead it skates a line of being comedicly awkward and a little annoying in how it plays out. I wanted it to push more for the comedy awkwardness, but it didn't. I enjoy that social awkwardness done so well in many shows now (Curb, The Office) and here it kept it too light and general, not pushing in on any one element.

The cast follow this approach; they are all very good but their performances vary in tone, and the film doesn't manage to make that all work in the same place.

the ring

A confusion. Tension and happiness. A brutal gesture for a noble cause. And a nice script. The humor is spiced, the story works, the seductive easy confusion is not the most inspired used but , for a love short film for Valentine Day it could be one of beautiful choices. Because the idea is brilliant and the way for use it is like... a strawberry cake.

A ring. Two couples. And a confusion. All, in a fancy restaurant
