Advocating for inclusion of the deaf community
The Saarbrucken Tatort Team has been recently joined by Kommissar Stellbrinck, who is viewed as incapable of team work. While investigating a murder involving people of interest within the local deaf community, the Kommissar learns new "people skills", such as saying "please" and "thank you" when appropriate, and even endeavors to learn basic sign language in order to respectfully communicate with deaf people.
The subject of inclusion of the deaf in everyday life runs throughout this episode and shows the still existing prejudices. Kommissar Stellbrinck is the perfect choice for this story line, due to his unique personality; he can be sarcastic, even rude, but is also capable of curbing his obnoxious side to show empathy and affection. At heart, he is married to his job, and unlikely to sustain a romantic relationship. - The many different regional Tatort Teams all have their individual, very unique cast of main characters. Saarbruecken Tatort has found their own "special" formula. Just for that, I award an extra 2 stars! The story itself is a bit far fetched (i.e. upper middle class boy disowns his family and joins the French Foreign Legion? - That just doesn't happen!), but in all, this is a pretty good "Tatort" entry!
