And there you were, sitting comfortably in your chair and reading this, thinking that National Treasure, the adventure series starring Nicholas Cage that acted as a blend between Indiana Jones and The Da Vinci Code (it had the pizzaz of Indiana Jones and the historical nonsenses of The Da Vinci Code all in one), would be excluded from the current revival/reboot craze. But guess what… you thought wrong! The series was never a mainstream hit, but it was quite charming, and many people liked it despite its issues. Now, talks of a third movie have been all around the place for years now, but director Jon Turteltaub has recently confirmed that a third movie is being written.
This comes after some very pessimistic comments made by the series star, Nicholas Cage, who did not give us much hope that he would be returning to the role of Ben Gates,...

Johnny Cage, Mortal Kombat’s arrogant movie star, has become a fighting game icon over the decades. His signature sunglasses and cocky one-liners have become instantly recognizable and have become a character trait that has persisted through all the various reboots of the gaming series.
Very few fans know that the inspiration for this martial arts movie star came from Marvel Comics’ Iron Fist.
Mortal Kombat’s Johnny Cage Is Based on Marvel Comic’s Iron Fist
Johnny Cage retains his signature personality in the series reboot, Mortal Kombat 1.
Johnny Cage has been a staple of the Mortal Kombat series since his first appearance. Created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, Cage was originally made as a parody of the typical 1980s action hero, also drawing heavy influence from real-life martial artist and actor Jean-Claude Van Damme. However, while crafting Cage’s persona, Boon also looked to a rather unexpected character – Iron Fist.

Nicolas Cage fans must have been overjoyed by the recent update of his hit Disney movie franchise National Treasure. After 17 years of the release of the second installment in the franchise, a potential National Treasure 3 is reportedly in the works which will bring back Cage as Benjamin Franklin.

National Treasure 3 will make the franchise a trilogy and the success of the upcoming movie will determine if more installments can be added. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, the National Treasure franchise was a commercial success although the response from critics was not celebratory. Still, the franchise deserves one more installment. Also, Cage’s return would create the astonishing buzz as Hugh Jackman did following his return as Wolverine.

Just barely 60, Nicolas Cage may actually be nearing retirement, saying he only has a handful of movies left in him. And according to the Oscar winner, National Treasure 3 will not be one of them, throwing shade at Disney, saying there was no treasure to be found at the studio. With that, that might be the nail in the coffin of a National Treasure 3, as now mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer is saying a third installment won’t go forward without Cage’s involvement.
Bruckheimer recently told MovieWeb that he personally has hopes for a threequel but it all falls on Cage. “Well, we hope there’s a National Treasure 3. We’ve been working on it for quite a while. We have a brilliant writer working on it right now, so hopefully, if we get a script in a timely fashion, we’ll send it to Nic [Cage] and, if he likes it,...

The rumors that Nicolas Cage might make a comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe are probably familiar to fans of both comic books and the Oscar-winning star. While many expect him to reprise his role as Ghost Rider in the upcoming flick Avengers: Secret Wars, it seems that the actor, 60, could be taking on a different Marvel character this time around.
Cage recently responded to reports that he is in talks to play the lead in Marvel’s live-action Spider-Man Noir TV series. The actor previously voiced the character in the animated flick Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). He quickly clarified, though, that while discussions are happening, nothing is set in stone just yet.

Austin, TX – One thing that SXSW attracts are movie stars. With the big premieres headquartered at the famous art deco Paramount Theatre in Austin, audiences were treated to appearances by the legendary Susan Sarandon (“Gutter”), a reunited Cheech & Chong, and for the creme de la creme we were in the “Cage.” The great Nicolas Cage appeared on behalf of “Arcadian.”

Susan Sarandon is an Oscar Winning (“Dead Man Walking”) and ultimate cult actress (the legendary Janet in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”). “I wanted to experiment: can I develop a family which was not unlike my own upbringing?” says Nicolas Cage, while talking to Den of Geek about his new movie Arcadian, which premiered at SXSW 2024. “My dad did most of the heavy lifting, he did the raising because my mom sadly couldn’t be around. So it was just my father, and in this case, myself and my older brother. I saw that family dynamic in the [Elia] Kazan picture, East of Eden.”
From that description, you might imagine Arcadian to be an austere drama, something that takes place in a rustic farm house and focuses on the complex relationship between a father struggling to do right by his two boys. And you’d mostly be right… mostly.
But then Cage completes his thought. “And then I thought, well, wouldn’t it be interesting if this little family nucleus was contending with...

Here's my pitch to sell you on director Benjamin Brewer's Arcadian: it's A Quiet Place but with Nicolas Cage and better creature elements. The last part came as a huge shocker. Writer Michael Nilon sets the stage for an eerily familiar doomsday scenario that feels like Gareth Edwards' Monsters at first but quickly finds its roots as a sibling to John Krasinski's alien invasion franchise. Arcadian does take a bit to reach its full momentum, not as dynamically engaging as a survivalist drama, but once the monsters reveal themselves? Brewer executes what could be a knockout audition to direct the next A Quiet Place sequel, should there be more on the horizon.
We first meet Cage's protagonist, Paul, fleeing a metropolitan city under state-of-emergency sirens. Military rockets are fired towards an invisible foe as Paul escapes the crumbling architecture, eventually retreating to a homestead in farmland...

We’ve been paying a lot of attention to the upcoming Osgood Perkins / Nicolas Cage horror movie Longlegs recently, getting ready for that film’s July 12th theatrical release… but today, Deadline has revealed that another Cage thriller will be reaching theatres before Longlegs! That’s the survival thriller Arcadian (formerly known as Sand and Stones), which Rlje Films will be bringing to theatres on April 12th. The movie will then be going to the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services later in the year.
Scripted by Michael Nilon (Braven), Arcadian has the following synopsis: In the future, in a sparsely populated world, normal life has been decimated. Paul and his twin teenage sons, Thomas and Joseph, have managed to claw out an existence in their remote farmhouse, yet they live in constant fear. When the sun sets, ferocious creatures of the night awaken to hunt and consume all living souls in their path.

Exclusive: Terence Winter, the writer-producer known for his work on Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos and more, will team with Vincent Piazza, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Phiphen to develop Midge, a tragicomic feature based on an absurd but true, as-yet-untold story.
At the center of it is Thomas Midgley, Jr., the man who in the first half of the 20th century invented two of the most toxic and disastrous chemicals humankind has ever known — leaded gasoline and Freon —without having even been a chemist.
In a statement on the project, Winter told Deadline that “the only thing crazier than this story is that it hasn’t already been told.”
He’s teaming with Piazza to pen the script and both will exec produce, along with automotive journalist Jamie Lincoln Kitman, who also serves as a research consultant on the project. Phiphen’s founder Molly Conners will produce alongside Academy Award nominee Rachel Winter (Dallas Buyers Club). Director meetings are underway.
Winter is best known for creating the acclaimed HBO series Boardwalk Empire, as well as for producing and scripting dozens of episodes of The Sopranos, for which he earned three Emmy Awards. In his 25-plus years in television, he’s also won three PGA awards and four from the WGA. Also the creator of HBO’s Vinyl, he’s otherwise best known for scripting Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. More recently, he co-wrote Paramount’s Bob Marley: One Love, which is out in theaters now.
Piazza is best known for his work on the acting front, having appeared in everything from Boardwalk Empire and Clint Eastwood’s Jersey Boys to the Sylvester Stallone starrer Tulsa King and IFC thriller Centigrade.
Most recently, Appian Way produced the DiCaprio starrer Killers of the Flower Moon, helmed by Scorsese, which is up this year for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Phiphen’s recent projects include the comedic thriller Coup! starring Peter Sarsgaard, which premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and will be released by Greenwich Entertainment, and the Nicolas Cage Western Butcher’s Crossing.
Winter is repped by CAA, Lbi Entertainment and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; Piazza by Gersh, Untitled Entertainment and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.

Has Russell Crowe entered into a Nic Cage phase of his career, making whatever script his agent sends him? Recent work like “Unhinged,” “The Pope’s Exorcist,” and “Poker Face” (which Crowe also writes and directs) certainly makes it look that way. “Sleeping Dogs” looks like it continues that trend, with Crowe playing a downbeat ex-cop in a mid-budget cop thriller.

A toxic masculine person isn’t created from nothing. It’s a slow cycle, forged from a young age where boys are taught to be the strongest, to be the best, and to hide their vulnerabilities. Rumi Kaul’s boyhood drama Cage (Kooi) captures the inception of these ideals amongst a group of teens as they indoctrinate one of their number’s younger brothers into their problematic ways. Despite being only seven minutes long, Kaul succeeds in bringing the subtlety of this transition to screen, showing how the one-upmanship that is so prominent in young males is manifested on the playground. Dn is excited to premiere Cage in conjunction with an in-depth conversation with Kaul where he discusses the ideals of youth and masculinity he wanted to unpack, the process of securing funding for the project, and the challenge of casting his troupe of young actors.

Nicolas Cage "loved" the idea of being aged up for 'The Retirement Plan'.The 59-year-old actor portrays a retired assassin in director Tim Brown's new movie, and he was quick to get on board for the project because not only did he like the script, but he was intrigued at the thought of playing someone a decade older.Discussing how he got the 'Pig' star on board, Tim told The Hollywood reporter: "I sent Mike [Nilon], his manager, the script, and he responded. He said that he thought it was really funny. He loved the family theme that’s running through it."He loved the idea of playing a grandfather and playing a bit older than his own age. So he liked the idea of being aged up, and that was pretty much it."We talked a lot about the material, and the comedy really drew him to it."The...

An entire horror franchise is dedicated to Freddy Krueger, a boogeyman who corners his prey in their own dreams to seek revenge against their parents for his murder. A24’s Dream Scenario, written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli (Sick of Myself), uses that familiar concept to spin a nightmare comedy that examines cancel culture in the modern world. Instead of a vampy dream demon, though, it’s Nicolas Cage’s oafish professor who finds himself thrust into the spotlight thanks to a bizarre phenomenon. Raucous comedy gives way to a different variety of horror as unsettling reflections of reality set in, to mixed results.

The Retirement Plan filmmaker Tim Brown makes his own luck.
Instead of waiting for the phone to ring, the Canadian writer-director has created his own opportunities to helm his written material, and The Retirement Plan, Brown’s new action-comedy starring Nicolas Cage, is the fifth time he’s done just that. Brown already had an usual path to the director’s chair, as he started out on the distribution side of the industry.
The Retirement Plan, which is now playing in theaters, began with Brown imagining John Wick as a 70-year-old former assassin who now passes his time as an island-based beach bum. He eventually sent a script to Cage, and the veteran actor was intrigued by the idea of being aged up by a decade in order to portray the added dimension of an estranged grandfather.

Nicolas Cage is one of the most admired actors in the world, and given the lore surrounding his unique personality and spectrum of roles, ranging from award-winning to eccentric, he’s always a point of interest in Hollywood. In the upcoming film “The Retirement Plan,” debuting theatrically on Sept. 15, Cage plays a retired government assassin with a violent set of skills, who must protect his estranged daughter and grandchild (played by Ashley Greene and Thalia Campbell) after they get tangled up with some very bad men (including Ron Perlman and Jackie Earle Haley). Writer and director Tim Brown spoke with Variety about the art of directing and collaborating with Cage.

Nicolas Cage has become enmeshed in our collective cultural consciousness in a way that few stars have, particularly over the last decade as his distinctive meme-ready brand has grown. So it only seems natural for him to play a character who suddenly starts popping up in people’s dreams. Indeed, Kristoffer Borgli’s Dream Scenario presents a perfectly absurdist setup that allows Cage to flex his singular acting muscles in increasingly hilarious directions.
Mind you, this isn’t another “crazy Cage” role that the actor has become synonymous with in recent years. In Dream Scenario, he plays the defiantly unremarkable Paul Matthews, a schlubby professor of evolutionary biology at the fictional Osler University. Despite holding academic tenure and having an agreeable home life with his wife, Janet (Julianne Nicholson), and two daughters, Sophie (Lily Bird) and Hannah (Jessica Clement), Paul longs to be noticed on a grander scale. A24 may have a somewhat unexpected awards contender on its hands with Nicolas Cage’s lead performance in Kristoffer Borgli’s Ari Aster-produced Dream Scenario, a smart and surreal dramedy that world premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival’s Royal Alexandra Theatre on Saturday night and had most of the audience laughing out loud from start to finish.
Cage, who has been one of the most gifted and interesting actors in the business since he entered it decades ago, has, wittingly or not, become something of a self-satirizing performance artist in recent years, not unlike Bill Murray. I thought that 2022’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was the full realization of that, but I hadn’t yet seen Dream Scenario.
In Dream Scenario, which Borgli wrote and A24 will release on Nov. 10, Cage gives his Cage-iest performance to date as a boring husband, father and academic who...

Nicolas Cage, after more than 100 credits, finally has his dream role, at least as comedy fans are concerned. He knocks it out of the park as a schlubby, balding college professor who suddenly starts appearing in people’s dreams, first his daughter’s, then an old girlfriend’s, and soon millions of people around the globe are seeing this ordinary looking, very plain guy walking through their slumber in rather non-descript ways no matter what the situation. He becomes a phenomenon, until it reverses and the whole thing turns into a literal nightmare.
This is the inspired comic premise of Dream Scenario, perhaps the most ingenious screen idea Woody Allen never had, although it might have been interesting if he did (think a twisted Zelig). Instead it comes from the mind of Norwegian filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli, whose main claim to fame before this film, which had its world premiere at...

Think about some of the weirdest dreams you’ve ever had. Maybe you were perched on a dining room table while hungry alligators slithered toward you. Or the one where you’re sitting by a swimming pool as various objects fall from the sky. Or that nightmare where a tall, terrifying man in tattered clothes slowly stalks you in the woods, while you seem to be stuck running in slow motion. Got one in mind? Good.
Ok, now picture a schlubby, middle-aged man casually strolling through that dream. He’s not really doing anything,...

If you were wondering just when we’d finally get footage of Jean-Claude Van Damme doing what he does best in Mortal Kombat 1, wonder no more. NetherRealm has released a new trailer providing a preview of Van Damme’s likeness and voice in the game as a character skin for Johnny Cage.
It’s a bit surreal seeing Van Damme decked out in his (altered) Bloodsport gear doing Johnny Cage mannerisms before facing off against the character that was inspired by The Muscles from Brussels himself. But you have to admit that it’s also so frickin’ cool.
And yes, just in case you were also wondering, we do get Van Damme doing the famous Split Punch on Johnny Cage. Van Damme’s likeness also adds a bit of hilarity to Cage’s Fatality. Vroom-vroom, indeed.

From Daredevil and Luke Cage to The Witcher and now One Piece, Marc Jobst has quietly become one of Netflix’s most prolific directors.
Born in Zimbabwe, the One Piece director/executive producer has now worked on seven Netflix series, and he has Luke Cage to thank in particular for this latest collaboration. In 2018, Jobst directed Cage’s season two episode, “Wig Out,” which was written by Matt Owens, One Piece’s co-showrunner. Owens never forgot the way Jobst handled the varying tones of his Cage episode, so that encounter led to Jobst directing the first two episodes of One Piece and setting the tone for the entire series, which released on Thursday.
“Out of the blue, I got this phone call asking if I would be interested in coming to talk about shooting One Piece. And what Matt [Owens] told me was, it was partly because of the fact that...

After that trip down memory lane yesterday with the new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer, WB Games and NetherRealm have released a new behind-the-scenes video featuring Dave Bautista playing the game ahead of its September 19th release.
“Obviously, my voice is gone now from screaming ‘Mortal Kombat’ all day,” says Bautista during the gameplay session. “But I love this because it directly connects me to my past. So it’s more personal and feels more gratifying.”
Bautista elaborates, saying that growing up, his favourite character was Liu Kang because of Kang’s bicycle kick, and because he was able to morph into a dragon for his famous Mortal Kombat II fatality. “I like Scorpion now because I just want to hear him say ‘Get over here!’ (laughs).”

No matter the role or movie, Nicolas Cage reliably makes fascinating choices that captivate and frequently entertain. So, it goes without saying that Cage playing an enigmatic gun-wielding madman sounds like the perfect foil for Joel Kinnaman’s straight-man in the cat-and-mouse road thriller Sympathy for the Devil. Despite Cage’s presence and the pulpy stylings, though, this chamber piece frequently threatens to fall asleep at the wheel.
Sympathy for the Devil introduces its protagonist, credited only as The Driver (Kinnaman), as a doting dad dropping his son off with his mother-in-law before heading to the hospital where his wife is in labor with their second child. The Driver pulls into the parking garage only for a strange man with bright red hair and a snazzy suit to calmly slide into his backseat and hold him at gunpoint. The Passenger ignores all please and instructs The Driver to head out toward an undisclosed location,...

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the movie being reviewed here wouldn't exist.
There are two types of Nicolas Cage movies. There are legitimately good films that remind us he's a genuinely good, even great, actor — films like "Mandy" and "Pig." And then there's everything else. We're talking smaller films in which Cage and his wacko performance are usually the only interesting things to grab hold of. "Sympathy For the Devil" is more the latter than the former. No one is going to accuse this of being one of Cage's better films, but it is a good delivery system for Cage's usual wild man antics. He's once again given free rein to do what he wants, and what he wants to do, at least here, is to go off the deep end.
Which is fine!

Directed by Yuval Adler from a screenplay by Luke Paradise, Sympathy for the Devil plays like a cut-rate Collateral, except with the unfortunate cabbie at the center of Michael Mann’s film swapped out with a hostage driver named David (Joel Kinnaman). As soon as David, an expectant father, pulls into the parking garage of the hospital where his wife is about to give birth, Nicolas Cage’s gangster character hops into the backseat and holds him at gunpoint, forcing him to drive away. From there, Sympathy for the Devil verges on plotlessness as it skates through such timeworn scenarios for the crime movie as being pulled over by a cop or stopping off at a diner, never managing an ounce of tension or mystery along the way.

Nicolas Cage has brought us some truly unhinged performances. From Castor Troy in Face/Off, to his supporting role as Eddie in Deadfall, and even Edward Malus, a woman-punching policeman in the 2006 remake of The Wicker Man. There is no stopping his extreme method acting. But where did it all come from? In 1989, Nicolas’ seedling was born in the horror comedy Vampire’s Kiss (get it Here). Back in the 80’s, some would say that his performance was too chaotic and horrendous. If you were to ask a millennial’s opinion today, they would tell you it’s one of the greatest films ever made. The cast of ‘Yellowstone’
CBS’s 2023 fall primetime lineup will look vastly different from previous years. Due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production has been shut down on scripted series and films. Given the lack of new episodes of its normal nighttime shows, CBS is diving into programs that have aired on Paramount+. Plus, the network’s leaning heavily on unscripted series and game shows.
Yellowstone starring Kevin Costner, Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes will make its debut on broadcast television this fall. Season one will air on Sundays on CBS, five years after premiering in June 2018 on Paramount Network.
Paramount+’s Seal Team season five will run on CBS on Thursdays, and FBI True makes the move from Paramount+ to CBS on Tuesdays this fall. And the original U.K. Ghosts, which inspired the American version, will take up a spot on CBS’s lineup on Thursdays.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains major spoilers for Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ “The Flash,” now playing in theaters.
“I finally got to see Nic Cage be Superman. It has been an absolute delight for me,” Kevin Smith recently told Rolling Stone about watching “The Flash.” The film and that Cage-as-Superman cameo near the end is a full circle moment for Smith, who was the screenwriter of the studio’s infamous “Superman Lives.”
After launching the Batman movie franchise for Warner Bros. to great success, director Tim Burton turned his attention toward Superman in 1998 with the development of “Superman Lives.” Smith penned the script, which focused on Superman’s fight against Doomsday. Despite spending over $30 million on the film’s casting and pre-production, Warner Bros. pulled the plug on “Superman Lives” due to creative differences.

Starring Nicolas Cage (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) and Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad), Sympathy for the Devil was directed by Yuval Adler (The Operative) from a screenplay by Luke Paradise (Lost on a Mountain in Maine).
