Actor Ryan Devlin hosted the MTV reality dating show Are You the One? until season 6, when Terrence J took over. Currently, in its ninth season with Kamie Crawford as the presenter, many viewers still miss Devlin and are curious about what happened to the Michigan native as he’s primarily stepped away from television since his departure as host. Where is he now?

As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.
The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.
Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.
Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

It feels like we are reporting daily on books getting adapted onto film. I love this, because it introduces people to new authors and promotes reading while letting fans of novels see their favorite stories play out on the screen. The most recent novel to get the treatment is the romantic comedy Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt. The adaptation will be written by Kara Holden, who wrote the script for Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, which was a really great movie.
Variety reports the following synopsis for the movie:
The book, published in 2013, follows a 16-year old who discovers that her “perfect” boyfriend is cheating on her with an online girlfriend. When their ugly breakup goes viral, she not only swears off boys but modern technology altogether. Inspired by a list of goals her grandmother made in 1962, she decides to “go vintage” and return to a simpler...

Showtime has won the latest hotly contentious presidential race. The pay cable network just landed the rights to adapt “The President is Missing,” the upcoming novel from President Bill Clinton and superstar author James Patterson, into a TV series.
The book, set to be published next June, tells the story of what happens when a sitting U.S. president suddenly disappears. Clinton, who’s long been a fan of Patterson and political thrillers, brought his insider knowledge of what it’s like to hold the most powerful office in the land.
“I’m really enjoying writing this book and working with Jim, and I can’t wait to see Showtime bring the characters to life,” Clinton said in a statement.

This weekend brought some welcome news: Ben Affleck’s latest, “The Accountant” (Warner Bros.), came in better than expected. And though “Kevin Hart: What Now?” (Universal) grossed only about half as much, they both did well compared to their cost.
But the overall box office continues to lag against 2015’s peak record numbers, dominated by such fourth-quarter entries as “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” a Bond film and the final “Hunger Games.” It’s hard to imagine that 2016 totals can beat them, even with Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” in early November, J.K. Rowling’s latest “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” from Warners and Disney’s “Moana” closer to Thanksgiving.

Though awards season has started outside of movie theaters it definitely hasn't started within them (a flaw of the system as we continuously bemoan) and The Birth of a Nation took another campaign hit this weekend dropping a rough 61% in its second weekend while its competition last weekend dimmed by only 38 to 50% in round two. This week was a battle between two films from reliably bankable stars without awards gold on their mind -- Kevin Hart's Kevin Hart: What Now? and Ben Affleck in the thriller The Accountant. The latter surprised by slightly outperforming the successful opening weekends of both Argo and The Town despite having nothing like their enthusiastic reviews.

The good news: Emily Blunt thriller “The Girl on the Train” handily outpaced other Columbus Day Weekend openers, as well as last year’s single new wide release, “Pan,” which only scored $15 million.
The bad news: despite three wide releases, the weekend marked another box office downslide. The $94 million Top Ten total is off 11% from 2015, continuing the recent post-Labor Day decline.
So “The Girl on the Train” (Universal), which delivered a tad under $25 million at a third of its cost, is a significant improvement over “Pan.” It should become a success.
But given the earlier films performing weaker than last year’s fall releases, their results, even with some respectable holds, can’t compare to 2015 grosses. So for theaters, the drop continues.

2016-10-09T14:50:20-07:00Weekend Box Office: 'Girl on the Train' Dominates 'Miss Peregrine'
Another humdrum weekend at the box office turned out pretty much as everyone expected, with only one of three new wide releases doing respectable business and none of them delivering anything close to a hit performance. The thriller The Girl on the Train was the weekend's top movie, easily surpassing last week's number one, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
The Girl on the Train, which was based on the best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins, came in almost in the middle of the range of estimates offered by experts ahead of its release. The film's weekend domestic gross came out to about $24.7 million, significantly better than the $18 million on the low end of projections but nowhere near the $30 million that some optimists had predicted. The good news is that the film cost less than $50 million to make,...

Best seller adaptations don't always equal big opening weekends (see Light Between Oceans) but The Girl on the Train was one of the lucky ones opening strong despite middling reviews. Was Emily Blunt the top draw or the book itself? Perhaps it was just excellent timing with few adult thrillers in the marketplace, most of the Oscar contenders waiting for November and December launches, and The Birth of a Nation struggling with a weak launch that's making Fox Searchlight's $17 million Sundance bet look like a losing hand.
What'cha think? And what did you see this weekend?

The weekend turned out almost exactly as expected with Universal and DreamWorks's The Girl on the Train finishing at #1 and the weekend top twelve coming in ~8.7% behind the same weekend last year, grossing a combined $96.4 million. The weekend's two other new wide releases*The Birth of a Nation and Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life*are in a fight for sixth place as holdovers mostly ruled the top five. This weekend also saw Disney's Finding Dory become the 27th film to ever cross $1 billion worldwide, making it the third Disney release of 2016 to cross that mark. Finishing at #1, the adaptation of Paula Hawkins' bestselling novel, The Girl on the Train, came up just a bit shy of expectations with an estimated $24.7 million from 3,144 theaters. It's no stretch to assume the film experienced diminishing buzz as the weekend wore on, due mostly to the largely negative reviews (44% on RottenTomatoes) and lackluster,...

Is there a subgenre as thankless as the live-action family comedy? Studio animation aimed at families, even when it’s second-tier, can often claim some level of technical artistry. But so many movies aimed at slightly older kids—too old to demand exclusively talking animals, too young to just go see whatever PG-13 movie parents would rather watch instead—seem to take their cues from the worst of animation and the most middling of sitcoms. This is the process by which the genuinely (and interestingly!) harrowing middle school years become Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life.
Based on the first in a series of middle-grade novels co-authored by sentient publishing industry James Patterson and nearly enough collaborators to qualify as a writing room, Middle School follows Rafe Khatchadorian (Griffin Gluck) as he starts at a new school. His creativity almost immediately chafes against the rule-obsessed Principal Dwight (Andy...

Channeling the spirit of John Hughes and playing like a tween version of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life delivers an easily digestible and amusing portrait of youthful hijinks that should well please its target audience. Based on the best-selling book series by James Patterson (does that man ever sleep?), the family-oriented film should prove modestly successful in its theatrical release before enjoying a long life in home video formats. The story centers on Rafe (Griffin Gluck), an artistic-minded kid who's forever doodling and drawing in his sketchbook and who, because

Like an overbooked, overambitious student, “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life” tries to cram far more into its curriculum than it can handle. The film’s attempts at comedy and sentimentality are equally unsuccessful, resulting in a movie that feels more like a third-rate “Saved by the Bell” knock-off than a legitimate teen flick. Both the younger cast members and their more seasoned adult counterparts mostly give it their all, but the screenplay by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer (“Masterminds”) and Kara Holden, based on the novels by airport-king James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts, throws in more incidents and.

Tate Taylor's The Girl on the Train got off to a swift start, earning $1.23 million Thursday night. The film is expected to top this weekend's other new releases, Nate Parker's slave-rebellion drama, The Birth of a Nation, and fellow book adaptation Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life. The somnolent autumn box office, down 9% since Labor Day, could get a boost from two high-profile titles, “The Girl on the Train” (Universal) and “The Birth of a Nation” (Fox Searchlight). They will fare better than “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life,” (Lionsgate), with only “Train” projected to gross over $10 million for the three days of the four-day semi-holiday weekend.
The combination of newcomers and adequate holdovers might raise the Top Ten total to over $100 million, which would get it to close to even with last year ($106 million). But with only one film, “Sully,” exceeding expectations in recent weeks and many falling short of what would have been expected in past years, it’s tough to make optimistic guesses.

For a second week in a row, North American multiplexes welcome three new wide releases into theaters. This weekend that includes Universal and DreamWorks's The Girl on the Train along with Fox Searchlight's Sundance pickup and Oscar hopeful The Birth of a Nation. Meanwhile, Lionsgate and CBS will be targeting family audiences with the adaptation of Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life. Overall, the weekend is, once again, looking to be down compared to the same weekend last year with the top twelve hovering right around $97 million altogether, but there is one additional factor to take note of. Estimates have suggested a -5% effect could be had on the weekend box office due to Hurricane Matthew which has intensified to a Category 4 with winds of at least 140 miles per hour. Yesterday governors of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina declared a state of emergency and today Florida...

So far this fall, the position of box-office champ has had a revolving door, with only Sully being able to hold on to the top spot for more than one week. That trend is probably going to continue this week, because one of the week's new movies is likely to take the number-one slot away from last week's winner, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
The week's first new wide release, and the one most likely to succeed, is The Girl on the Train. This one is a drama/thriller starring Emily Blunt, and it's based on a best-selling novel. Predictions for the movie's opening weekend gross range all the way from $18 million to $30 million or even more. Poor reviews ahead of release suggest that the actual number will be closer to...

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. Oftentimes they fail miserably.

2016-10-02T14:33:00-07:00Weekend Box Office: 'Miss Peregrine' Beats 'Deepwater Horizon'
The top two movies at the box office this weekend performed pretty much as expected, but neither one could reasonably be considered to be a hit. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children came out on top of the weekend, with Mark Walhberg's Deepwater Horizon sliding to second place.
Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine took in about $28.5 million for the weekend. That's a bit ahead of the majority of predictions, which had the movie bringing in about $25 million. It's well behind, though, the most optimistic projections early in the week that suggested the film could hit $35 million or even more.
While Miss Peregrine's take is not bad for a September/October opening, it's less than both Sully and The Magnificent Seven, the month's last two number-one movies, made on their opening weekends. Both of of those...

This weekend ultimately turned out very much as expected with Fox's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Lionsgate's Deepwater Horizon debuting in the #1 and #2 spots respectively. Fellow new opener, Relativity's Masterminds, was unable to score in the double-digit millions in its debut and Disney's Queen of Katwe fell short in its expansion. Overall the weekend saw an uptick from last weekend, but was still down compared to last year with the top twelve generating an estimated $106.4 million compared to last year's $142.7 million, which was led by The Martian's $54.3 million debut. Finishing #1, Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children delivered an estimated $28.5 million in its opening weekend from 3,522 theaters. The film received a "B+" CinemaScore and currently holds a so-so 64% on RottenTomatoes, both of which may have contributed to the film being unable to quite reach $30 million for its opening weekend. This Past Weekend:
While the new movies reigned at the box office this past weekend, both Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven (Sony) and the animated Storks (Warner Bros.) didn’t fare nearly as well as our projections, both falling short by about $10 million. The Magnificent Seven, starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt, fared decently with $34.7million, which is about the average for Washington’s films, but the fourth highest opening for a Western after last year’s The Revenant, the animated Rango, and Cowboys and Aliens. Storks’ $21.3 million opening wasn’t great compared to other animated September releases with Sony still holding the September opening record with Hotel Transylvania 2, but it should continue to do well with no other animated movies opening for another month.

I absolutely hated middle school a.k.a. junior high. Those two years were seriously some of the worst of my life. I'm seriously surprised that I survived that insanity. There's now a movie coming out that pays tribute to the awfulness of those years. It's called Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life and today we have an entertaining new trailer for you to watch. The movie looks pretty good, and this is the synopsis for it:
Rafe has an epic imagination...and a slight problem with authority. Both collide when he transfers to an oppressive, rule-crazy middle school. Drowning in do's and don'ts, Rafe and his scheming best friend Leo hatch a plan to break every rule in the school's Code of Conduct. It's Ferris Bueller meets Home Alone as their battle with Principal Dwight explodes into chaos both real and imagined. But Dwight displays his own fiendish creativity,...

Rafe (Griffin Gluck) is heading into middle school, and he finds himself in the world of Principal Dwight (Andy Daly), who runs a tight ship, and has an overabundance of rules. Rafe and his friends put together a plan to break every rule Principal Dwight has, but he has to keep his plans, and rule-breaking, from his mom (Lauren Graham).
While this one looks like a lot of fun for younger audiences, its success probably rests on Daly’s shoulders, and he’s a great choice for the role. The “bad guy” in such a film can easily go too cartoony, and though Daly could probably aim for that if he wanted to, his work on things...

"Creativity has no place in this school." CBS Films has debuted a second full-length trailer for the movie Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, an adaptation of the bestselling book series of the same name. Young actor Griffin Gluck stars as Rafe Katchadorian, a boy with a "wild imagination" bored of middle school who decides to break every rule and see what happens, bringing his friends with him. The full cast includes Lauren Graham, Rob Riggle, Thomas Barbusca, Andy Daly, Adam Pally, and Efren Ramirez. This actually looks really fun, especially disregarding the rules and messing with expectations. I'm sure if I were younger I'd enjoy it even more, but still, it looks pretty good. "Rules aren't for everyone!" Here's the second trailer for Steve Carr's Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, on YouTube: You can also still watch the first official teaser trailer for Middle School here,...

"Rules aren't for everyone." CBS Films has unveiled the first official trailer for the film Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, an adaptation of the bestselling book series of the same name. Young actor Griffin Gluck stars as Rafe Katchadorian, a boy with a "wild imagination" bored of middle school who decides to break every rule and see what happens, bringing along his friends with him. The full cast includes Lauren Graham, Rob Riggle, Thomas Barbusca, Andy Daly and Adam Pally, and Efren Ramirez. This looks like it might be entertaining, I like the hand-drawn text they use throughout the trailer. Have fun. First trailer (+ poster) for Steve Carr's Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, from YouTube: A quiet teenage artist Rafe Katchadorian (played by Griffin Gluck) has a wild imagination and is sick of middle school and the rules that have been put before him.

If only we can go back in time and shake things up at school. Unfortunately, that’s not exactly possible but at least we can live vicariously through one such rebellious teenager.
Middle School tells the story of teenager Rafe Katchadroian (Griffin Gluck) who has a wild imagination and is forced to turn his school upside down, with the help of his best friend Leo (Thomas Barbusca), in an attempt to rebel against all the insufferable rules set by the school’s Principal, played by the hilarious Andy Daly.
Also starring Lauren Graham and Rob Riggle, this is one relatable movie we can all get behind!
