Okay Kev, we get it!

This doc is basically not about the making of the film, but Kev whining about how the movie didn't do well and how depressed they were. BIG DEAL! KEV, YOU DON'T SEE OTHER FILMMAKERS WHINE ABOUT HOW THEIR MOVIES FLOPPED!

If you're in the entertainment industry, whether it's filmmaking, theatre, books, video games or music, some things you do are to people's tastes and some things aren't.

Mallrats flopped because it had no big names (Smith and Affleck were nobodies at this point) and it was defeated by other big movies coming out the same year, such as Toy Story, GoldenEye and Die Hard 3.

Kev just whines and whines and you're like "I don't care. So what?"

Then they talk about how people discovered this movie on VHS and DVD and how it became a cult favourite. Just like any story about box office flops.

You learn nothing about the making of the film, but rather how it crashed and rose from the ashes.

And Kev was at it again when critics bashed Cop Out. Kev, that movie sucked, but this doc was better than watching that tripe!

Mallrats: The Erection of an Epic - The Making of Mallrats (2005)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Kevin Smith, Jason Lee, Ben Affleck, Jason Mewes, Michael Rooker and other cast and crew members of MALLRATS are gathered up to discuss why it was such a bomb at the box office and with critics. This twenty-one minute featurette starts off with some archival interviews where we see these same people talking about how people are going to love the movie and then we get to the current interviews where people talk about the disastrous reception the film got.

I really, really enjoyed this featurette because usually when movies flop no one wants to discuss it. That's certainly not the case here because all the main people are here sharing their thoughts and it's great fun hearing from them. It's especially interesting hearing from Smith who discusses the pain of getting that call and learning the film had tanked. We even get to hear from a couple film critics who discuss how bad the film was.
