The espionage thriller show, Homeland, received a lot of attention on its premiere in 2011. The unique storyline featured a suspicious CIA officer convinced that a Marine Corps Scout Sniper had turned on the government, and chaos ensued. But the most controversial aspect of the show was the inclusion of a mental illness as the main character’s trait.
Actress Claire Danes played Carrie Mathison, the CIA officer who suffered from bipolar disorder. The character’s illness became a central part of the plot, but it did not define the storyline. The actress also did her research on the disorder to showcase a realistic performance. Danes confessed she was relieved to discover that the sensitive issue was not treated as a gimmick by the show.

France’s Miam! distribution has picked up distribution rights to Silex Animation’s adult animated series “Mare the Mermaid,” one of the continent’s big buzz titles in adult series animation, after impressing at Cartoon Forum in 2023. Commissioned by France Télévisions for their young adult platform Slash, the show is set for delivery in Q4 2026.
The show’s official synopsis reads: “Breaking free from society’s expectations without making a splash is tough when you’re a mermaid princess who doesn’t quite fit the mold. And it’s even tougher when your mom, the Queen, decides to throw your family into a reality TV fishbowl!
“‘Mare the Mermaid’ tells the story of Princess Pelagie, who ditches her royal life and swims off to college under a new alias: Mare. Her mission? To escape the media’s spotlight and her mom’s watchful eye. But as she quickly learns, blending...

K-Pop superstars Stray Kids have once again reunited with Tommy Hilfiger for the brand’s Fall 2024 campaign.
The eight-piece boy group, under the Korean agency Jyp Entertainment, were photographed in front of the iconic New York city skyline. The campaign features the group in modernized prep looks, a signature of Tommy Hilfiger.
“Tommy Hilfiger is an American style icon,” Stray Kids said in a release. “Each time we visit, he helps us to feel at home through his timeless prep style — it makes us feel that anything is possible.”
The group (comprised of members Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin and I.N) added: “We’re so excited for our fans to see us on top of the world in this iconic New York campaign.”
The new campaign is “a tribute to the notion that there’s no place like home, especially New York City,” according to a release from the brand.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” appears to be playing with time a little bit, with the appearance of the Time Variance Authority, so perhaps it makes sense that the soundtrack for the film is filled with throwbacks.
In theaters now, the film officially brings Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) into the MCU, as the two pair up — begrudgingly, in the case of Wolverine — to save Wade’s world.
Surprisingly, there’s no Wham! on this soundtrack, but it does get pretty meta, bringing in a song from one of Hugh Jackman’s musicals. And, before you get excited, no, that’s not Taylor Swift on the soundtrack confirming any rumors she might be in the film.
Her song is called “You Belong With Me,” not “You Belong to Me.” This one is a classic though.
Here are all the songs in “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

Like its predecessors, Deadpool & Wolverine recruited some heavy-hitting songs for its soundtrack, which is fitting for the reunion of Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who was born James Howlett.
While the trailer teased Madonna’s Like a Prayer, other anthems by groups like *Nsync and AC/DC or even the Goo Goo Dolls back action-packed and heartfelt moments in the film. Avril Lavigne has a banger in there as well, and of course, some of Hugh Jackman’s past projects creep in.
Here are all the songs in Deadpool & Wolverine:

Slash honored his stepdaughter, Lucy-Bleu Knight, following her death on July 19 at just 25 years old.
The Guns ‘N Roses guitarist said Knight died “peacefully” on Sunday in Los Angeles, though he did not specify a cause of death.
He said she was an “incredibly talented artist, a passionate dreamer and a charming, lovable, sweet soul.” Slash recognized Knight as the “beloved daughter of Meegan Hodges and Mark Knight, stepdaughter of Samantha Somers Knight and Slash, sister of Scarlet Knight, stepsister of London and Cash Hudson.”
He went on to ask for “privacy at this time and requests that social media speculation be kept to a minimum as they grieve and process this devastating loss.”
On the morning of July 21, Slash posted that his S.E.R.P.E.N.T Festival tour, which began on July 5, would have to cancel four performances due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

After years of waiting, K-pop fans, or rather fans of the massively popular K-pop group Stray Kids, have finally gotten what they have been dreaming of: a Marvel collab. Ever since Ryan Reynolds and Bang Chan, aka the leader of Skz, struck up a friendship back in 2021 after their iconic God’s Menu performance in Kingdom: Legendary War, Stays (the Skz fandom) has been dreaming of this event.

There's a great deal of excitement among fans to see Logan's mask in Deadpool & Wolverine, no great surprise when we've all been waiting decades to see Hugh Jackman wear the thing!
Rumour has it the iconic (and somewhat impractical) headpiece will only receive 10 minutes of screentime in the threequel...which should be just about enough to satisfy moviegoers. Now, thanks to Hot Toys, we have a detailed look at Wolverine's mask.
Two life-size statues have been unveiled and, by clicking through the galleries below, you can get up close and personal with both Deadpool and Wolverine's MCU costumes.
Marvel Studios has quite clearly found a way to make the latter's mask work in live-action and we're hoping for at least one major action sequence where Jackman heads into battle wearing it. Assuming the actor returns in the next Avengers movies, then we're sure it'll get a second chance there (especially...

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are really ramping up their promotion for forthcoming Marvel film Deadpool & Wolverine. The duo’s latest appearance comes in the music video for Stray Kids’ new single, “Chk Chk Boom,” which sees the actors pretending to be a weather man and a news anchor on a fictional network.
In the clip, the actors’ antics book-end the band performing the track on rooftops and city streets (with some very impressive dance moves). “Chk Chk Boom” is the lead single off Stray Kids’ new mini-album, Ate,...

Marvel Entertainment released the tracklist for Deadpool & Wolverine‘s soundtrack Wednesday, including a feature that has been years in the making.
Stray Kids, the eight-member K-pop supergroup, will contribute a seemingly new song titled “Slash” to the soundtrack. The boy group, hailing from Korean company Jyp Entertainment, have a lengthy history with Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds himself.
In 2021, Stray Kids competed, and eventually placed first, in the Korean music reality show Kingdom: Legendary War. For the show’s eighth episode, the boy group performed a wildly entertaining mashup of their hit song “God’s Menu” and Blackpink’s “Ddu-du Ddu-du.” Clearly paying homage to Deadpool, Stray Kids member Felix kicks off the performance dressed as Reynolds’ character, offering a cheeky opening monologue reminiscent of something out of the film.
Fans of the K-Pop group shared clips with Reynolds, who eventually commented, “Oh hello @stray_kids,” starting a mutual admiration between the group and the actor.

Constructing a soundtrack album is a gentle -- and perhaps lost -- art. This author is old enough to remember the 1990s heyday of movie soundtracks, when film producers would regularly license charting pop hits, obscure deep cuts, upcoming rappers, and underappreciated indie bands to construct carefully curated and meticulously produced albums that lived happily in your friends' cars all summer. There was a time when an unsuccessful film could recoup a lot of its theatrical losses with overwhelming soundtrack record sales. See: "Dead Man on Campus."
As the music industry collapsed in the early 2000s, however, soundtrack records fell out of favor. Movie songs became mere playlists, neither arranged on a CD in any cogent order nor lending themselves toward a general thematic thrust. We '90s teens can now whine (as is our wont) that soundtrack albums are, in the '20s, rarely more than "pile of neat songs.

Marvel Studios has revealed the full tracklist for Deadpool & Wolverine and there are some absolute bangers to be found here. However, it's what they tell us about the threequel which is perhaps most interesting.
Unlike a soundtrack made up of music dreamed up by a movie's composer, these are pre-existing tunes by well-known artists. We'd expect that to follow in a couple of weeks.
Chris de Burgh's "The Lady in Red" feels like a song which will accompany Lady Deadpool into battle, while the inclusion of "The Greatest Show" from The Greatest Showman is an obvious nod to Hugh Jackman's starring role in the popular musical.
Ryan Reynolds has even managed to include "Slash" by Stray Kids; for those of you who aren't aware, the actor is a huge fan of the South Korean boy band and even appears in one of their upcoming music videos.

Michael Jackson‘s “Beat It” proved that the King of Pop could be the King of Rock when he wanted to be. While “Beat It” has an iconic music video, it isn’t Jackson’s best rock tune. It might not even be his second-best rock tune. Here’s a look at Jackson, the rock star.
Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ isn’t as good as ‘Give In to Me’
“Beat It” is musically violent, but it’s a song about pacifism. That’s an oddball choice if there ever was one. When John Lennon sang about nonviolence, he wrote folk ditties and pop ballads. Meanwhile, Jackson tries to instill peace, love, and understanding in his listeners while hitting them over the head with Eddie Van Halen’s guitar. In its own strange way, “Beat It” works beautifully, but it’s hard to accept Jackson as the sort of person...

London-born musician, Slash, gained world-wide recognition as the lead guitarist of rock group, ‘Guns N Roses’ in the late 1980s to early 1990s. Whilst in the band, he created the side-group ’Slash’s Snakepit’ which although did not gain much mainstream attention, received critical acclaim.

Ryan Gosling’s charming presence was one of the eagerly awaited moments of yesterday’s Oscars night. The Hollywood heartthrob took to the stage to perform I’m Just Ken — one of the nominated Barbie song by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt.
Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For? was another one. Decked out in a sparkly pink suit, a cowboy hat, and pink gloves, Gosling kicked off his performance by serenading his Barbie co-star Margot Robbie.

Robbie couldn’t help but laugh at the playful gesture. Later, the 43-year-old actor took the stage with a group of Ken dancers, including Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans — all suited up in black.

As a celebration of a cracking year of cinema, the Academy scarcely put a foot wrong in a safe but spectacular Oscars 2024 ceremony. Our review:
Watching the Oscars live for the last few years hasn’t been without its risks. Grappling with pandemic fallout, declining viewing figures and some bizarre format experiments, the biggest night in showbiz has, for some time now, often failed to live up to its reputation.
The unmitigated disaster of the 2022 ceremony, though, seems to have given the Academy a kick up the backside. With last year successfully reducing the number of televised slaps back to the more conventional zero, the 96th awards ceremony seemingly built on the happily uneventful proof of concept to deliver a slick, confident broadcast that finally made a town full of storytellers look like they knew what they were doing.

Returning for his fourth stint as host, Jimmy ‘safe pair of hands’ Kimmel delivered some strong one-liners in his opening monologue and throughout the 2024 Academy Awards ceremony, held last night at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Referencing the strikes, he said: “It was also a great year for movies, despite the fact that everything stopped. The people in this room somehow managed to come up with so many excellent films and memorable performances. This night is full of enormous talent, and untold potential, but so was Madame Web.”

The Oscars are done for another year and Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy are newly minted Oscar winners for Oppenheimer! Overall, it was an expected and welcome result, with Oppenheimer also taking home Best Picture, while Poor Things star Emma Stone won a second Oscar, in a surprising, but well-earned result. Overall, it was the icing on the cake of a refreshingly entertaining edition of the Oscars – one of the best in years.
Right off the bat it was pretty amusing, Jimmy Kimmel made some pretty fun digs in his opening monologue, including some references to Robert Downey Jr’s checkered history (which he was happy to play along to) and Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s genetic perfection (he ain’t wrong). Plus, there was a close-up of Anatomy of a Fall’s breakout dog star, Messi (who showed up despite earlier giving the award show the high hat...

Lovato left Braun’s Sb Projects about a month ago and she’s yet to partner with new management. Reps for Lovato and Braun did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

We have another murder in the building, Arconiacs!
After a murder-free year, the first supposed death of Ben Gilroy hit everyone with a bang, and Mabel's reaction on Only Murders In the Building Season 2 Episode 10 was a testament to another death plaguing the building.
The probability of someone being in the center of murders three times in a row is very low.
Yet on Only Murders In the Building Season 3 Episode 1, Ben died, was resurrected, and died properly. And each time, Mabel suspected foul play.
We were reunited with our offbeat trio, and in the two-episode season premiere, they seemed out of sync. Sure, there was the same old banter between the three, which never gets old, but it didn't feel like old times.
Charles: I know you're nervous. I know your last Broadway show was a disaster. Everyone knows that. The world knows it.
Mabel: Fast forward, fast forward.

While much of the initial fanbase that helped turn Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into a pop culture phenomenon aged out following the original cartoon (1987-1996) and live action movies (1990-1993), the property has continued to flourish with reboots in TV, film, and comics every few years.
If the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has you interested in exploring various versions of Tmnt, there’s no better place for a horror fan to start than Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series that aired for five seasons between 2012 and 2017.
While there’s an inherent connection to horror in the various mutants and monsters that pop up throughout the franchise, no rendition embraces the genre nearly as much as this one. In addition to references to classics like Alien, Friday the 13th, and The Evil Dead, the series employed several notable horror actors throughout its 124-episode run.

The Guns N’ Roses guitarist co-produces this retro chiller that serves up a corpse, alternate dimensions and an implausible plot
Slash from Guns N’ Roses is one of the producers of this throwback low-budget Canadian horror – and he makes his presence felt on the opening credits with a track that is the cinematic equivalent of playing a screeching guitar solo outside your Glastonbury tent at 6am. Subtle it is not. But possibly spot on for a movie that feels like a blast of 80s nostalgia, paying homage to the era’s nastily effective cheap scary movies.
It begins like a Stephen King novel, in the sleepy town of Lone Crow, where a badly mutilated body drifts in on a canoe. “Where’d the bones go?” marvels sheriff John Hawkins (Allan Hawco), who is days away from a promotion and upping sticks to the big smoke. A driving licence identifies the corpse as Dr Cole Parsons,...

Guns N’ Roses’ bassist, Duff McKagan, wants your guiding light on “Lighthouse,” the gentle title track from his upcoming solo album. “Won’t you be my lighthouse?” he sings over a gospel backdrop of organ and backup vocalists. “Give me sight and lead me on/Oh, shine on me, my lighthouse/And dry my aching bones.” The music then shifts gears and becomes more uplifting as McKagan leads a choir singing “Shine, shine, shine,” building bigger and bigger. The full album will shine its light on Oct. 20.

Rock music in the 1980s was full of debauchery and excess, and like many of their fellow Sunset Strip peers, Guns N’ Roses notoriously lived it up during their prime.
In a new interview with Yahoo! Entertainment (watch below), Slash admitted that the band’s antics probably wouldn’t sit well by today’s standards and that a young Gn’R would be “canceled” nowadays.
“I haven’t actually… thought about it in that context,” Slash said. “To be honest, I haven’t really thought about all that [scandalous stuff] that much recently. But now that you mention it, most of everything that [Guns N’ Roses] did would’ve gotten us canceled in this day and age.”
He added: “We would not have fared well in this environment, for sure… on so many different levels. But I mean, a lot of things from back then would not be what you consider acceptable at this moment in time.

France’s broadcasting group, France Televisions, launched Slash, a niche platform skewing millennials, as part of its efforts to keep its brand relevant among younger viewers. In five years, the service has become one of France’s biggest showcases of daring scripted content created by and starring diverse talents.
Slash, which is accessible on the pubcaster’s streaming service France.tv and is headed by former screenwriter Sened Dhab, has been consistently delivering hit shows. Recent examples include Noé Debré’s Brexit-themed political satire “The Parliament,” Simon Bouisson’s “Stalk,” a thriller about cyber bullying, and “Skam,” the local adaptation of the Norwegian series about troubles teenagers.
