Danny Huston directs and stars in this sincere yet banal drama about loss and tragedy. Its narrative – which concerns Tom (Danny Huston), a bookshop owner, and his son Luke (Jonah Hauer-King), a university student – can be foreseen with little effort, as can the significance of the titular photograph. Once viewers have extrapolated this, attention spans will start to wane. A film with this premise could be a punch to the gut, but The Last Photograph’s central dynamic is too fleeting and shallow to make contact. It is a failure of script, character and imagination.
Compounding these shortcomings is the digital aesthetic, which is drab and televisual. Sensory montages interject some foreboding reverie, but the overall impression is decidedly mundane. The scant visual flair also manifests in a lack of period detail, stripping the1988 flashback sequences of their authenticity.

In his latest podcast/interview, host and screenwriter Stuart Wright talks to director and star of The Last Photograph, Danny Huston.
The Last Photograph centres on a random act of theft that has put Tom Hammond’s life into a tailspin. Stolen from his bookshop is Tom’s most treasured possession, a photograph of him with his son Luke…their last moment of shared happiness. The Last Photograph is set between London in 2003, and a dark night in 1988 when Pan Am 103 was blown out of the sky over Lockerbie.
Written by Simon Astaire and directed and starring Danny Huston; along with Sarita Choudhury, Stacy Martin and Jonah Hauer-King, The Last Photograph is released in the UK and Ireland to download / stream from 26th April 2021 on all good digital platforms.

Jonah Andre Hauer-King pretty much sprang up onto the movie and television scene when he got his first off-stage role, which happened to be the Danny Huston film ‘The Last Photograph. It premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and he has pretty much been working steadily ever since. The movies and television programs he has starred in have earned him plenty of fame and attention in England, but this is one actor whom America has not yet gotten familiar with, since his roles, thus far, have been in British works. We expect, however, that this situation is in the

Kaleidoscope to represent The Works’s title at this week’s Efm.
UK outfit Kaleidoscope has struck a deal to take over representation of The Works Film Group’s sales slate.
Commencing at this week’s European Film Market In Berlin, Kaleidoscope will handle sales on all films in The Works’ catalogue, including recent releases California Typewriter, The Climb and The Last Photograph, as well as the back catalogue.
The deal was negotiated by Spencer Pollard, CEO of Kaleidoscope, Deepak Sikka, director of The Works and Robert Croucher, founder of business management consultancy Hatton & Berkeley.
Sikka said that the deal meant “consolidating certain ancillary areas of [The Works’] business” and that it will “provide an enlarged platform” for the company’s development slate and films in production. Screen understands that The Works will focus primarily on acquiring titles for distribution and its own productions going forward.
Pollard explained that the deal is an extension of previous collaborations between the two companies...
