A gentle romantic comedy/drama of Indian generations of Indians finding life and love in America.
SPICES OF LIBERTY Movie by Gowri Goli
The movie Spices of Liberty, opening in Cary, NC on October 21, 2016, is the dramatic and often humorous story of second generation Indian immigrants working, dating and making a life together in North Carolina. Starring Suhasini as Radha and Ajay Kathurvar as Krishna the film also features multiple Indian and American actors and actresses in a sincere look at the foibles and rewards of romance, traditions, family and loyalty. The cinematography was excellent, with panoramic views of North Carolina from the mountains to the sea. The inventive musical score was never overpowering but added to the story at several key points. The movie gives non-Indian viewers a glimpse of how Indian philosophy, religions and traditions impact various generations of Indians now living in America. While the beginning scenes were heavier on exposition, those themes of tradition, family, respect and loyalty were carried through the film's climax and resolution. The actors were good, from the two very likable leads throughout the supporting characters, who provided comic relief. The parents of the two romantic leads were excellent, giving some of the most moving dialogue in the film. There were some sound syncing problems with the film, particularly in the beginning scenes. All in all a gentle, fun, and moving glimpse into Indian/American life in modern day North Carolina.
Directed by Gowri Goli, Pothuganti Chandra Aditya,Spuriya Goli,(screenwriter and post production), and written by Chandan Dash, Gowri Goli,Ezhilarasan Irulappan, Prasad Kommaraju, and Jalandar Reddy. Cinematograohy by Gowri Goli and Saravana Kumar and music direction by Madhavapeddi Suresh.
