Titles from Caye Casas, whose jarring film “The Coffee Table” earned a nod from Stephen King, and a comeback project from former Eli Roth co-scribe Guillermo Amoedo (“The Inhabitant”), figure into a six-title slate for the fifth edition of the Santiago Int’l Film Festival’s Morbido Lab.
According to Sanfic co-founder Gabriela Sandoval, the competition was tight this year as the strand “had many more applications than in 2023.”
Morbido founder and CEO Pablo Guisa Koestinger will be on the ground to advise the talent, both established and budding, leading them towards full development and financing for their chilling projects. Director Luis Javier Henaine, who recently released genre highlight and Morbido Fest Bronze Skull Winner, “Disappear Completely” and veteran scribe, producer and director Adrian Garcia Bogliano, whose 2012 Title “Here Comes The Devil” swept the Austin Fantastic Fest, will provide additional mentorship.

BBC Studios has announced the titles coming to BritBox in July 2024, which include everything from new BritBox Originals to classic British fare. BritBox is a digital video subscription service offering the largest collection of British TV in the U.S. and Canada.
The July lineup features the return of the multi-bafta-nominated The Responder, once again led by Martin Freeman, who won an International Emmy for his performance in the first season and written by former first responder Tony Schumacher. Told with brutal realism, season two follows Chris Carson (Freeman) and Rachel (Adelayo Adedayo) as they cope with the trauma of the night officer beat and try to rebuild their lives in their own ways.
On July 2, John Simm leads a new season of Grace, based on Peter James’ bestselling crime novels. This season features adaptations of Dead Man’s Time, Want You Dead, You Are Dead, and Love You Dead.

In a groundbreaking swing for Brazil, but in line with the deal struck in 2022 by Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment and The Washington Post, the Brazilian strategic partnership will expand Uol’s brand of storytelling to all forms of filmed entertainment.
Owned by Folha de São Paulo, Brazil’s No. 1 and best-respected newspaper, Uol has a 78% Internet reach, only bettered by Google and Facebook, according to company estimates. It is renowned for the depth, rigor and time spent of its investigative journalism.
Headed by Felipe Braga and Rita Moraes, Lb Entertainment (formerly Los Bragas) created and produced pioneering Netflix Brazilian sitcom “Samantha” (2018) and co-created with KondZilla “Sintonia,” Netflix’s biggest Brazilian hit which has now run to five seasons.

Welcome to the latest instalment of a brand-new feature here on Nerdly, where one of our comic gurus, Ian Wells, delves into comics history and dissects Comics Interview, the long-running journal of interviews and criticism from David Anthony Kraft.
A Yak with Dak
Dak uses the Upfront space to plug alternative/independent comics, whilst also going out of his way to say Comics Interview strives to include them. Personally, I feel he is selling himself short in that regard. In the eight issues I have looked at so far, I feel the alternatives/indies have had decent representation. Look at #6 you had Berke Breathed talking Bloom County right alongside huge fanboy porn in the shape of Jla vs The Avengers! Comico was featured last time out, and the comics of First have been featured. It would be interesting to see how the early days of those two, their success and...

It’s taken a few more years than expected but 10/31 Part III has finally arrived and it wastes no time getting down to business with several faux trailers that range from old-school Eurosleaze, “The Slaughter”, to “Night of the Halloweenies” a parody of Night of the Demons, zombies lay siege to a radio station in “Radio Tower Road” and a pair of slashers “Candy Killer” and my favourite, the 70s grindhouse styled “A Stranger’s Treat”.
As with the original and the first sequel, 10/31 Part III begins with Jennifer Nangle appearing in her Malvolia persona and giving us an introduction to what we’re about to see.

Awards
After being delayed in 2021, The 36th Spanish Academy Goya Awards ceremony will return to its traditional time frame, taking place on Feb. 12 from the Mediterranean coastal city of Valencia. 2022 will be the fourth year in a row the awards will be held outside of Madrid, where the Spanish Academy’s offices are located and where the ceremony had been held since their establishment in 1986.
This year’s ceremony was held with no audience in attendance due to Covid-19 restrictions. Despite the empty auditorium however, the evening was praised by Spanish media and viewers on social media as one of the best in the history of the Goyas, due in no small part to host Antonio Banderas’ presence. Musical performances from local celebrities and at-home acceptance speeches with winners surrounded by friends and family added to the charm of the one of a kind awards.

Australian rock outfit Amyl and the Sniffers have released a new song, “Guided by Angels” from their upcoming album, Comfort to Me, out September 10th via Ato Records.
“Guided by Angels” is a driving track with a distinct post-punk edge as Amy Taylor bellows her cathartic, chant-like vocals over big riffs and thundering drums. The track arrives with a music video, directed by John Angus Stewart, in which Taylor dances around and belts the song in various locales — a field, a storage unit, the ocean — as her bandmates stand cooly by.

Among the many excitements and unexpected joys of Leigh Janiak’s bloody and fiendish “Fear Street” trilogy of films, which debuts with “Part One: 1994” on Friday, is a lesbian romance that runs through the center of all the movies.
Though the three “Fear Street” movies jump backward in time and operate as standalone stories, starting with 1994, then 1978 and finally 1666, one of the connecting threads of the films is the relationship between the two young female leads Deena (Kiana Madeira) and Samantha (Olivia Scott Welch).
The films are all set in the cursed town of Shadyside, dubbed “Murder Capital U.S.A.,” and in “Part One,” we learn that Deena and Samantha have broken up and are on the rocks after Samantha crossed to the other side of the tracks in the neighboring, rival town of Sunnyvale. Shadysiders are consistently belittled and looked down at by their wealthier and better-off neighbors,...

At a time when Islamophobia is at a peak, what with several barbaric terror attacks in various parts of the world being claimed responsibility by Islamic extremist groups, Shabana Azmi has dared to play the distraught mother of a young Pakistani man accused of and incarcerated for terrorism in Britain in the BBC One series Capital. It's a feisty role. And Shabana has a terrific time sinking her teeth into the meaty part of a Pakistani matriarch trying to hold her family together in London in a climate of rapidly growing distrust hostility and violence. I saw an episode where Shabana playing the Pakistani matriarch with her family convinces a human-rights lawyer to take up her son's case. Shabana is completely in-control of the situation in the plot and she speaks her lines without any accent. Says Shabana, "Capital is based on journalist-author John Lanchester's book of the same title.

Nobody plays flawed heroes like actor Toby Jones, from Capote to Hitchcock to Captain Mainwaring. But they’re winners in his eyes, he tells Simon Hattenstone
It wasn’t meant to be like this. Toby Jones was the little fella destined for a life in clowning, or fringe theatre, or radio drama. Maybe even the occasional walk-on part in an art house movie. Take his first couple of film roles in the early 1990s: “the valet” in an adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando and “man at tea bar” in Mike Leigh’s Naked. That was Toby Jones. Or, even better, the scene-stealer in the Richard Curtis comedy Notting Hill – the man who stalked Julia Roberts. You don’t remember that? Well, that would be because it was cut out of the movie. But, hey ho, that was his destiny. Jones did what he always did: made the best of it,...
