Director Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Mayhem), screenwriter Dennis Paoli – who worked on the screenplays for the Stuart Gordon-directed H.P. Lovecraft adaptations Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak, Dagon, and Masters of Horror: Dreams in the Witch-House – and producer Barbara Crampton (who had acting roles in Re-Animator, From Beyond, and Castle Freak) recently teamed up to make a new Lovecraft adaptation called Suitable Flesh (read our review Here) in tribute to Gordon. The movie recently received a Blu-ray and DVD release (copies can be purchased at This Link) that includes such extras as audio commentary, featurettes, and bloopers – but if your taste is more old school than that, it’s also coming to VHS, courtesy of Broke Horror Fan and Witter Entertainment!
Copies of the “limited edition, fully functional” Suitable Flesh VHS can be purchased through Witter Entertainment. “It arrives on VHS in slipcase packaging with art by Creepy Duck Design.

Stuart Gordon was the master of cinematic H.P. Lovecraft adaptations. Sadly, he passed away in 2020, but his Lovecraft franchise lives on with Suitable Flesh (read our review Here), which comes from the team of director Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Mayhem), screenwriter Dennis Paoli – who worked on the screenplays for Gordon’s Lovecraft movies Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak, Dagon, and Masters of Horror: Dreams in the Witch-House – and producer Barbara Crampton (who was in Re-Animator, From Beyond, and Castle Freak). The movie was given a theatrical and VOD release back in October, and at that time we heard it would reach the Shudder streaming service this January. Now we know exactly when it’s going to start streaming: January 26th!

Submarine Entertainment is picking up worldwide sales rights on Chris Skotchdopole’s feature directorial debut “Crumb Catcher.” The move comes just ahead of the darkly comic thriller’s Fantastic Fest world premiere.
Skotchdopole wrote, directed, edited, and produced the movie and Submarine Entertainment, a notable sales and production company, will launch sales out of the festival, which runs from Sept. 21 to Sept. 28 at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin, Texas. “Crumb Catcher” was described by Fantastic Fest programmer Anna Bogutskaya as a “chamber piece that melds extreme anxiety with the worst salesmanship imaginable.” The film follows a newlywed couple held captive by an entrepreneur desperate to finance his outlandish invention with a blackmail plot.
With ten years of experience working with Glass Eye Pix, the New York independent genre production outfit led by horror auteur Larry Fessenden, Skotchdopole has amassed numerous credits on several films, including working as the cinematographer on Fessenden’s “Depraved,...

In today’s movie landscape, its easy to get a sequel or remake greenlit, particularly in horror, but what about an original movie that is a heavy homage to an older title? This can give is something fresh and fun if done well. It has to have the right ingredients like the right actors on screen, the right script, and know exactly what it is and what it’s meant to accomplish. Indie director Joe Begos was the right guy to give us a wholly original genre flick that came out in 2019 to seemingly good reviews but little fanfare 4 years later. On our Corpse Club podcast last year, we recorded a retrospective series on the 2010s and it really put into perspective how great the last ten years have been for original horror content. We went from years in the early 2000s where it would be tough for me to put together a top ten list to a situation where it’s hard for many people to keep up with all the great horror content across different mediums and streaming services.
For those that are new to Daily Dead, we handle our year-end lists a little differently. Rather than just covering films, our lists can extend to TV, games, collectibles, events, and anything else genre-related. In short, we’re sharing with you a list of our favorite horror experiences from 2019. Check back every day over the next week to find out what made the cut for the rest of the Daily Dead team.

After a quick run through the North American genre festival circuit Dark Sky Films has announced that Joe Begos' latest horror flick Bliss will have its U.S. theatrical and digital release on September 27th. To pique your interest here is the poster, and the trailer is below. Known for her dark and macabre artwork, painter Dezzy Donahue (Dora Madison) is in a professional rut. Unable to finish her newest commissioned work, Dezzy looks to reignite her creative juices by letting loose-as in, taking every drug in sight and tearing through raucous house parties and heavy metal bars. After a few nights spent with her debauchery-loving friends Courtney (Tru Collins) and Ronnie (Rhys Wakefield), though, Dezzy notices changes within...

"You know what's wrong. You don't give it up. You can't... forever." In her Tribeca review, Daily Dead Managing Editor Heather Wixson called Joe Begos' Bliss a "gruesome and nightmarishly gritty descent into madness," and ahead of its southeast Us premiere at Popcorn Frights Film Festival in Fort Lauderdale, Dark Sky Films has unveiled the official trailer for Begos' latest film.
Dark Sky Films will release Bliss in theaters and on digital platforms on September 27th, and you can get an idea of what to expect in the official trailer and synopsis:

"It's like I was possessed..." Bloody hell! This looks trippy. A festival teaser trailer has debuted for an indie vampire film titled Bliss, the latest from eccentric indie filmmaker Joe Begos. This is premiering in the Midnight section at the Tribeca Film Festival this month. In need of creative inspiration, a professionally stagnant and hard-partying Los Angeles artist recklessly indulges in a series of drug binges. As the narcotics fly out of control, so does her newfound and inexplicable, yet unquenchable, craving for blood. Dora Madison stars in Bliss as Dezzy, with a small cast including Tru Collins, Rhys Wakefield, Jeremy Gardner, Graham Skipper, and George Wendt. This trailer lines right up with a synopsis stating it spirals into a "hallucinatory hellscape of drugs, sex, and murder in the sleazy underbelly of Los Angeles." Yeah, for real. This is a helluva teaser - definitely got my attention. Watch out for the blood.

With production underway on Chelsea Stardust's Satanic Panic and a movie adaptation of Preston Fassel’s Our Lady of the Inferno in development, Fangoria has exciting film projects on their upcoming slate, and they've now added another one to the macabre mix: the acton horror movie V.F.W., starring Stephen Lang and directed by Joe Begos.
Deadline reports that Begos will direct V.F.W. from a screenplay by Max Brallier and Matthew McArdle, with Lang in the starring role.
Described as "The Wild Bunch meets Night of the Living Dead," according to Deadline, V.F.W. "follows Fred and his military buddies as they must defend their local Vfw post – and an innocent teen – against a deranged drug dealer and his relentless army of punk mutants. These Vietnam vets have been to hell and back, but this will be the longest night of their lives."

You may have seen Graham Skipper in one of a billion indie horror films, such as Beyond the Gates, The Mind's Eye, of Almost Human. If you were lucky, you saw him star as Dr. Herbert West in Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator the Musical. In addition to acting, he's slipped into the director's chair, most notably with Sequence Break. The film is now exclusively on the rad, all-horror streaming service Shudder, and reunites Chase Williamson and Fabianne Therese, both of John Dies at the End, among other hot indie films. I spoke to Skipper on the challenges of making Sequence Break, his new feature in which Williamson plays Oz, am introverted arcade game repair man and designer who finds himself way too connected to a particular game...

Great news everyone: Andrew Niccol has a new film on the way. If the name doesn't sound familiar, then he's the filmmaker behind The Truman Show (which he wrote) and the wonderful Gattaca - a film we absolutely do not go on about at tedious length whenever we get the chance.
See related Voltron season 5: first trailer
Not all of Niccol's films strike box-office gold, but there's always something interesting going on in them. In Time wasn't in Gattaca's league, but it still made for a diverting sci-fi twist on Bonnie And Clyde. The writer-director's most decent film, Good Kill, was a quite underrated thriller about drone warfare - Ethan Hawke's leading performance alone made it good value.
All of which explains our enthusiasm for Anon: Niccol's next movie which,...

Babysitters have always been ripe fodder (metaphorical and literal) for horror films. Filmmaker Matt Mercer (Contracted, Beyond the Gates) takes this to a whole new level in his horror-comedy short Feeding Time. After playing at dozens of film festivals around the world such as Horrible Imaginings, GenreBlast, FrightFest (for which I programmed it), and Frightening Ass, and winning multiple awards, including Best Director and Best Score at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, Mercer has unleashed the beast for your viewing pleasure. Back in 2014 first-time director Joe Begos exploded on the horror scene with Almost Human, an alien abduction movie drenched in 80s flair. Now he’s back with his second feature, Supernatural Forces aka The Mind’s Eye, another film that’s not afraid to wear its love of 80s horror on its sleeve. In this case referencing the work of David Cronenberg and Brian De Palma, and films like the Scanners franchise, Carrie and the classic telekinetic fear flick The Fury.
Confession time: I’m not the biggest fan of David Cronenberg’s Scanners. If not for exploding head scene and the final battle between Revok and Vale, the film would be a very dull futuristic thriller.

As the Enterprise prepares to explore a strange dark matter nebula, Data and well-known Enterprise crew member Lieutenant (Junior Grade) D’Sora, with whom he has a long-standing platonic relationship that just happened to develop entirely off-screen, are modifying a torpedo for surveying purposes. As she explains her feelings about a recent break-up, Data offers her a cold unfeeling robot shoulder to cry on.
Tentatively, she attempts to get closer to Data. It isn’t long before they’re having dinner with the O’Briens (god help us) and chatting with some familiarity.

Like the trusty coma, dementia is the perfect illness for a thriller. It enables writers to store key information inside a character and release it precisely when the plot demands without anyone being able to scream ‘but why didn’t you say that weeks ago?!’. Characters suffering from dementia can legitimately flit in and out of lucidity, giving away nothing until the time comes for them to give away everything. Danny Brocklehurst knew that in 2011 BBC thriller Exile, and the writers of The Missing know it too.
In the present day, we learn that Roger Allam’s Adrian Stone is a dementia sufferer.

Movie studios attempt to jump-start franchises all the time, coming hot out of the gate with big ideas for a trilogy (or more) and sometimes greenlighting sequels before the first entry even hits theaters. When the first movie doesn't catch on with audiences, those studios are usually forced to tuck their tail between their legs and cancel plans for continuing the franchise (see The Golden Compass as an example). Usually, that's the last we hear about a property, and the studio moves on to something else.

Holy freakin' awesome! Seriously, you've got to watch this trailer for a crazy looking psychokinetic horror thriller called The Mind's Eye. The movie comes from director Joe Begos, and it has an awesome retro vibe that pays tribute to the early films of David Cronenberg and Brian De Palma.
No joke, this flick looks like a legit badass movie that's going to be a blast to watch. The story centers on two characters with psychokinetic capabilities who are being hunted down by a doctor who is looking to harvest their powers. The official poster of the film says it's "the best Scanners sequel we never got." If that's not enough to get you to want to watch this movie, then watch the trailer! It should do the trick. But first, here's the synopsis:

Whoa! Rlj Entertainment has released a crazy first trailer for Joe Begos' new body-horror / psychological thriller The Mind's Eye, which won Best Horror Director at Fantastic Fest last year. Graham Skipper plays Zack Connors, and Lauren Ashley Carter plays Rachel Meadows, two people born with "incredible psychokinetic capabilities" who are hunted by a doctor that wants to harvest their powers. The cast includes John Speredakos, Larry Fessenden, Noah Segan and Matt Mercer. The film has been described as an homage to the early films of David Cronenberg and Brian De Palma, and the poster has a quote calling it "the best Scanners sequel we never got." This definitely looks trippy and weird, and perfect for a late night. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Joe Begos' The Mind's Eye, direct from YouTube: Zack Connors and Rachel Meadows were born with incredible psychokinetic capabilities. A trailer and poster have been released for Joe Begos' The Mind's Eye. To be released by Rlj Entertainment, the film involves telekinetic powers and a mysterious research center. The film stars: Graham Skipper (Worry Dolls), Lauren Ashley Carter and Larry Fessenden. Indie film fans will remember Begos from his previous work - Almost Human (2014); A review is available here: An Almost Human Review. His latest utilizes practical effects as two telekinetic powers collide. The latest material on The Mind's Eye is hosted here. The newest graphic for the film is a dazzler. It shows a man's face, outlined by veins and arteries. A powerful toxin promises superhuman powers, while the character looks on, angrily. You can get your dose of The Mind's Eye on August 5th, 2016, via Video-on-demand. As well, the trailer shows these telekinetic powers being used on others. One police officer is thrown through the air. Furniture and other items fly about as two characters fight against each other....

Really cool short horror films are finding their way not just through the festival circuit, but lately, they're also finding homes online via web shows like Fear Haus and Crypt.TV. It's no wonder that with all the need for constant content, some indie filmmakers choose to release their films online themselves to cultivate an audience. Rhode Island filmmaker Jarrett Blinkhorn (co-producer on Joe Bego's The Mind's Eye) has done just that. His film They're Closing In follows a very paranoid couple living through a probable post-apocalyptic alien nightmare. What the hell is going on? I'm not quite sure --- but I want to know more. And that is a sign of a good film. Of They're Closing In, Blinkhorn told me how the film came to be. "It's...

In the last few years, writer-director-producer Mickey Keating has established himself as a prolific genre filmmaker, and his film Pod was released just a few months ago. Darling, his latest work, is a low-key psychological thriller that draws from a number of films about isolation, most notably Roman Polanski's Repulsion. However, Darling lacks the patience of its biggest influences, and its overbearing attempts to frighten the audience end up derailing an otherwise moody and intriguing effort. Lauren Ashley Carter (also featured in The Mind's Eye) stars as the titular character, a mysterious girl employed as the caretaker of a gorgeous New York brownstone while its owner (a cagey Sean Young, appearing in just a few scenes) is on vacation. Tagline: "Their Psychic Powers Became the Ultimate Weapon." A second movie poster has been released for Joe Begos' (Almost Human) The Mind's Eye (left). This time, the tagline states: "their psychic powers became the ultimate weapon." And, this exploitation film involves telekinetic assassins and bloody action scenes. A preview of the film's upcoming release is hosted here. Zack (Skipper) is not the only person with telekinetic powers. He is in search of Rachel (Carter). She also shows inhuman powers, but she is being held by a nefarious doctor, in an isolated clinic. Now, Zack must use his powers to release her, while a bloody confrontation looms. Demonic activity, skinheads, and psychopaths: these are the words one might use to describe the upcoming genre films of 2016. From a possessed painter, to a devilish leg wound, to full-on war waged within the confines of a futuristic apartment complex, blood flies and fingers point in what looks to be one of the most intense, purposely-paced and experimental years for independent films to date.
Traces of David Cronenberg's Videodrome and Scanners, Stuart Rosenberg's The Amityville Horror, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, and Nicholas Hytner's The Crucible can be found within these electrifying new entries from promising, emerging artists, proving that pulling from the past can wind up making a project feel fresh and new.
Although many of the films carry similar traits and themes like directorial debuts, single set locations, cult activity, and the ever-present presence of the devil's unholy spirit, each of these features is unique in its own persona.

Tears running down his face, the seven-year-old said, "Stop, Daddy! Stop! I can't take it anymore!" Considering the strange holiday line-up that I shared with Toshi and Allen, ages ten and seven, it is little wonder it almost ended in tears. But what kind of tears and why is a little less cut and dry than I might have supposed when this recent run of programming first came together. I've been seeing someone for a little while now, and it's been nice. She's met the boys and they like her tremendously, and vice-versa. The Monday after the film opened, the four of us went to see The Force Awakens together, the second time for the kids, the first time for her, and it was a great evening. They were excited about the film, about the evening out, about Star Wars in general. She was the one who brought up The Star Wars Holiday Special...

When any filmmaker with a well-received first film heads into their next project, the threat of the sophomore slump has to weigh heavily on their heads. Joe Begos' first film, Almost Human, was a lovingly crafted homage to the low-budget films of the 1980's and while The Mind's Eye, his follow-up feature, doesn't step backward, there is no real forward motion either. Instead of the sophomore slump, The Mind's Eye is more of a sophomore stasis, a film that simply repeats the low-fi charms of Begos' debut. Graham Skipper stars as Zack, a psychokinetic drifter who ends up arrested after an altercation with an aggressive pair of cops. He's released into the custody of Dr. Slovak (John Speredakos), who takes Zack to a secretive facility...

One of the reasons I try to see the Toronto midnight movies at the actual midnight screenings is because those audiences are positively bloodthirsty. They are there because they want red meat. They want to scream and groan and cheer, but not every night is programmed that way. Colin Geddes, the madman behind Midnight Madness, designs that schedule so there are some ups and downs and a mix of different energies. One of the movies that played most aggressively with the audience, satisfying exactly what they wanted, was "The Mind's Eye," the newest film from the same team who brought "Almost Human" to the festival a few years ago. Joe Begos and Josh Ethier and Zak Zeman are the ultimate expression of those kids who remade "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" or that dude who remade "Rambo" in one room, pastiche artists who make greatest hits versions of the films they love.

Already a seasoned veteran of the Midnight Madness stage from 2013 and his debut feature film Almost Human, Begos looks like he is bringing another dose of crazy to screens once again. The Mind's Eye blends horror, science fiction and thriller elements in a retro-style film recalling the concept-driven genre films of the 70s and 80s and particularly the early work of Tiff favorite David Cronenberg. Following years remaining off the grid, Zack (Graham Skipper) captures the attention of the mysterious Dr. Slovak (John Speredakos), a telekinesis expert with ambiguous intentions.
