The race to make contact with extraterrestrials leads two rival scientists down deadly paths where not all is as it seems in John Carpenter's Tales of Science Fiction: The Envoy. Written by David J. Schow with artwork by Andres Esparza, the first issue of John Carpenter's Tales of Science Fiction: The Envoy is now available from Storm King Comics with electrifying cover art by Cat Staggs and lettering by Janice Chiang, and we've been provided with an exclusive preview to share with Daily Dead readers!
Here's what Schow had to say about writing his latest story for Storm King Comics:
“With The Envoy—my third graphic novel for Storm King Comics—I wanted to lean away from straight action pulp and tackle the disparity between the supernatural and the scientific—the yin and yang of alien contact versus ghostly visitations. To show how these opposites are startlingly alike. How...

The first single from the upcoming film “Gunpowder Milkshake” has been released. Composed by Frank Ilfman (“Big Bad Wolves”), “Goonfight at Gutterball Corral” fuses indie-rock with a spaghetti Western style, further mixed with a large orchestra and soprano vocal.
Directed and co-written by Navot Papushado (also known for”Big Bad Wolves”), the film debuts on Netflix on July 14, along with the motion picture soundtrack. “Gunpowder Milkshake” follows Sam (Karen Gilan), a deadly assassin who was abandoned by her mother, Scarlett (Lena Headley) — also an assassin, just deadlier — at 12 years old. Sam is raised by The Firm, a ruthless crime syndicate her mother worked for. Soon enough, Sam is forced to choose between The Firm and protecting the life of an innocent 8-year-old girl, Emily, who gets caught up in the deadly web.
Ilfman chose to create signature motifs for each character that repeat throughout, and remain, like catchy earworms, long after the credits have rolled.

Exclusive: Filmula Entertainment has acquired rights to historian James L. Swanson’s upcoming book Lion In Winter, about America’s most prolific Chicago Outfit syndicate mob boss and a key henchman in the infamous “Capone massacres.” The book will be adapted into a feature film by Chuck Hogan, who penned the screenplay for Michael Bay’s 13 Hours, co-created The Strain with Guillermo del Toro and wrote the book on which Ben Affleck’s 2010 film The Town was based.
The subject matter in the book, due to be published in 2020, is under wraps, but we understand its is based on a true story about a criminal who has never been caught. It is being described as an ambitious ensemble piece covering the lives of up-and-coming hitmen, next in line to the title character’s aging, relentless syndicate murderer in an untold tale of American history.

A little Reservoir Dogs, a touch of Fail Safe, and a heaping dose of 2nd Amendment commentary at its core, writer/director Henry Dunham for his feature debut delivers a tightly constructed and incredibly intense thriller in The Standoff at Sparrow Creek. Packed with sharp dialogue, intriguing characters through and through, and masterful performances from a slate of very talented, character actors, the film builds mystery as well as any, modern whodunit on its surface-level. Underneath, though, Dunham's The Standoff at Sparrow Creek brings with it a mountain of ideas, most of them fervently politically-charged and more than appropriate in the 2018 climate of gun rights debates and continual, mass shootings. The film begins with the distant sounds of rapid-fire shots from a machine gun. Someone has opened fire on the funeral for a slain police officer killing several and escaping undetected. Members of a local militia, panicking at the thought...

About time we saw some traction on this. We got some new heroes on the block guys and now we know who will be playing the two lead roles.
I reported way back in April that Cloak and Dagger had been greenlit. Look its right here. Well finally we know who our two stars will be. Olivia Holt (Kickin It, The Standoff) will be Tandy Bowen a.k.a. Dagger and Aubrey Joseph (Run All Night, Death Pact) will play Tyrone Johnson a.k.a. Cloak. Executive Producer Joe Pokaski says,
"The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy. When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page. We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe.

After achieving a measure of success in Hollywood as producer of the popular Cinderella Story" franchise for Warner Bros, Ilyssa Goodman is now parlaying her award-winning track record into a successful directing career starting with her latest film “The Standoff”. Goodman is being lauded for not only getting stellar performances from her young cast, but for using a single location for nearly the entire film, while juggling multiple storylines and keeping the film fluid; not an easy task for even a veteran director. “The Standoff” revolves around a group of teens determined to win a flashy new car at Big Jim’s Auto Depot , but there is one rule: You cannot take your hand off the car. The last man or woman still standing after...
