Just a couple of weeks ago, Epic Pictures Group’s The Monster Project (review) hit Amazon Prime, allowing subscribers to catch the found footage horror mockumentary. Packed with practical FX and compared to movies like Hell House LLC and Grave Encounters, The Monster Project comes from the mind of director Victor Mathieu, who co-wrote the film […]

Don’t go around chasing monsters, because they might be real.
In Victor Mathieu’s directorial debut, The Monster Project is a very creative and scary film presented in the first-person point of view.
It follows a group of aspiring horror filmmakers, eager to raise their YouTube subscriber count, who post an online casting call for “real life” monsters to interview for their documentary. They find three participants and choose to film them sharing their haunted experiences in a mansion in the woods on the night of a lunar eclipse.
The film stars Toby Hemingway, Justin Bruening, Murielle Zuker, Jamal Quezaire, Yvonne Zima, Steven Flores and Shiori Ideta.
Lrm had an exclusive phone interview with Victor Mathieu for The Monster Project. Being a monster lover, he extensively talked about making these creatures come to life and the found footage style of filming in particular with night vision.

A low-rent House of Horrors for whatever small contingent of genre fans isn't yet sick to death of found-footage thrillers, Victor Mathieu's The Monster Project sets YouTubers against boogeymen and wonders who will win. More of a challenge to the eyes and ears than most pics of its ilk, it invests slightly more in its characters than usual, but not enough to make us care if they live or die. Commercial prospects are slim, though some buffs may click in the home-entertainment arena.

In a creepy new, exclusive clip from The Monster Project, an unexpected visitor arrives to give a jolt to a filmmaker. The film follows a "group of aspiring horror filmmakers," according to the official synopsis, who want to raise their YouTube subscriber count. To do that, they "post an online casting call for 'real life' monsters to interview for their documentary. They find three participants and choose to film them sharing their haunted experiences in a mansion in the woods on the night of a lunar eclipse. "The production suddenly turns into a nightmare when the participants transform into a real vampire, demon and skinwalker (a type of harmful witch, according to Navajo legends, that can transform into any animal with the intent of harming...

Checking my YouTube feed this morning, I discovered Epic Pictures uploaded an eleven episode Japanese/English web series. Episodes vary in length, not unlike Marble Hornets, and are super creepy found-footage shorts. They’re directed by Victor Mathieu, and it looks to be promotional work or a prequel for the August 18th release of The Monster Project, which is Mathieu’s. Check out the first one, posted below!
