According to THR, 20th Century Studios is looking to reboot The Maze Runner franchise based on the best-selling novels by James Dashner. The studio is currently in negotiations with Jack Paglen (Transcendence) to write the script for the new film.
The Maze Runner was released in 2014 and followed a group of memory-wiped teenagers who are trapped in a walled area known as the Glade. The only way out lies beyond an ever-changing maze, which is filled with deadly mechanical creatures. The film was followed by Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials in 2015 and Maze Runner: The Death Cure in 2018.
Before you start getting up in arms over 20th Century Studios rebooting a franchise which wrapped up less than a decade ago, sources say that this project won’t be a redo of the original story or a direct sequel. Instead, the producers hope to make it a “continuation of the story...

Jack Paglen (Transcendence) is in talks to write a new Maze Runner film for 20th Century Studios, Deadline can confirm.
While details as to the plot of the film are under wraps for the moment, it’s described as a continuation of the story of the last three films, released between 2014 and 2018, rather than a direct sequel.
Based on the dystopian YA book series by James Dashner, The Maze Runner takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where a group of young survivors must navigate deadly mazes, treacherous landscapes, and sinister organizations as they uncover the truth about their past and fight for their freedom. Wes Ball directed the original 2014 film, as well as sequels Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) and Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), all ahead of Disney’s acquisition of Fox. Dylan O’Brien and Kaya Scodelario starred in the films, which grossed over $948 million worldwide in total.

Amazon MGM‘s Play Dirty is ready to announce its female lead for director Shane Black’s upcoming film. Joining Mark Wahlberg for Black’s crime thriller is Rosa Salazar. Lakeith Stanfield also stars, with a script written by Black, Anthony Bagarozzi, and Chuck Mondry.
According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Play Dirty focuses on the “professional thief Parker (Wahlberg), who, after being double-crossed and left for dead, sees his hunt for revenge bring with it a shot at the biggest heist of his career. But even with the help of his partner, actor-slash-con artist Grofield (Stanfield), he’ll still need to outsmart a South American dictator, the New York mob, and the world’s richest man if he hopes to stay alive.”
Rosa Salazar’s Play Dirty role remains a mystery. However, the film is inspired by Donald E Westlake’s Parker crime novels, written under the pseudonym Richard Stark.

Throwing a bunch of teenagers into some sort of Gladiator-style arena is the pinnacle of young adult dystopian fiction, executed to perfection in franchises like "The Hunger Games." While "The Maze Runner" films also follow the same principle, the worldbuilding here is markedly different, woven deftly with interesting characters and plot developments that make it such an intriguing premise. With three movies that map the trajectory of such a grim world and its inhabitants, "The Maze Runner" emerges as a staple for those who wish to immerse themselves in its labyrinthine action and fantastical setting.
As "The Maze Runner" films are rather overlooked, at least in comparison to blockbuster offerings within the same genre, it can be a bit confusing for casual fans to denote its viewing order. Moreover, things get more complicated once we venture into its sprawling source material — James Dashner's "Maze Runner" novels extend beyond its theatrical counterparts,...

Yesterday, I emerged from a personal errand, made the mistake of opening social media, and saw my particular corner of the internet in an uproar. They were finally making a live-action movie based on the beloved "Legend of Zelda" video game series ... and Wes Ball was directing it. And everyone seemed to be grumbling about that.
Granted, my particular bubble does not necessarily represent the wider world, but I honestly thought my particular bubble would know better. In fact, I've rarely been more disappointed in my particular bubble! My particular bubble is supposed to know a thing or three about movies and the people who make them. So the wave of negativity and instant cynicism I saw surrounding this announcement made me realize I was going to have to write the article you're reading right now. This is your fault. Sorry.
Anyway: Wes Ball is an inspired choice to direct a "Legend of Zelda" movie,...

Science fiction is a fascinating film genre. It inspires dreams of extraterrestrial life, futuristic gadgets, and space travel. Today, this all seems more plausible than ever. Yet, besides reflecting society, sci-fi helps us evaluate our actions -- and their consequences.
Creating scenes with nail-biting stunts requires a collaborative effort between actors and directors. Replacing stars with stunt performers due to their physical capabilities usually works but mishaps can still happen --- both on and off camera. The film industry has seen an increase in accidents over the last decade despite the advancement of technology. According to the Los Angeles Times, from 2010 to 2019, 19 fatal injuries occurred on American film sets. As attorney Chris Deacon told the outlet, "If those engaged to work on set in whatever capacity are dying at the hands of the creative process, then something is fundamentally wrong in the production processes."
Sure, authenticity makes for a thrilling watch.

Hollywood's fascination with science fiction has produced some of the greatest thrills in movie history. "Star Wars," "Blade Runner," "The Matrix," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," and "The Day the Earth Stood Still" are but a handful of films that rank high amongst genre enthusiasts for their audacious ideas, innovative visuals, originality, colorful characters, and timeless appeal. Crafting these timeless masterpieces requires significant effort and unwavering commitment, and should not be underestimated. Many production stories showcase the extent to which producers and directors are willing to go to realize their vision -- even if it comes at the cost of the actors' well-being.

It’s ironic but unavoidable that the greatest annual celebration of film should be a television special — but that’s just how it is. March often means Oscar season, a time for cinephiles to boot up that small screen you use for movies and use it to see if they win any awards during a telecast.
If you don’t have TV service anymore, Hulu has you covered with a pre-Oscars telecast as well as two red carpet specials before and after the main event. Though the ceremony itself won’t be livestreamed on Hulu, it will be added the next morning, like regular ABC programming. Awards viewership has been in general decline over the past several years, but next-day streaming gives curious viewers a chance to join the conversation and boost those Oscar ratings after the live show. It’s also a chance for superfans to pause and rewind...

For starters, all of ABC and Fox’s (both now united under the Disney banner alongside Hulu) fall season offerings will be made available to stream on Hulu the next day. More impressively, however, two FX on Hulu originals make their way to the streaming world this month.
The first is the long-awaited adaptation of the classic comic Y: The Last Man. The story of a virus that destroys every mammal with a Y-chromosome (save for one escape artist and his monkey) is set to premiere on September 13. Shortly after that, the B.J. Though Marvel has decided to consolidate all of its cinematic universe offerings onto Disney+, some outliers still live on for other streaming services. In May 2021, Hulu is set to premiere the latest non-canon Marvel series.
The animated comedy Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is set to premiere on May 21 and stars Patton Oswalt as the titular Marvel villain. Oswalt’s Modok is every bit the devious floating head that he’s depicted as in the comics. He’s also your every day family man and the show will take on the format of a workplace sitcom. Sounds kinda fun! It’s no wonder that M.O.D.O.K. is the last Hulu Marvel show standing.
In non-Marvel offerings this month, Shrill will debut its third and final season on May 7. This comedy based on Lindy West’s memoir and starring SNL‘s Aidy Bryant has been a consistently bright presence on the streaming scene since...

Love and Monsters, another would-be blockbuster that’s bypassing theaters for VOD, is arriving at your home quite soon, as evidenced by the release of the film’s first trailer.
If there’s one thing that the often-visited genre of post-apocalyptic sci-fi cinema needs, it’s a wholesome romance between two young star-crossed lovers. Someone at Paramount realized this, and, this past October, quickly went into development on the project in question, tapping headliners in Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) and Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist).
Michael Matthews directed the picture, having come off his feature debut, the 2017 South African western-style thriller, Five Fingers for Merseilles. He worked off a screenplay by Brian Duffield (Insurgent) and Matthew Robinson (Dora and the Lost City of Gold), based on a story by Duffield.
With that set, check out the Love and Monsters trailer just below.

Infinite, a sci-fi film from director Antoine Fuqua, made a major change with Mark Wahlberg as its new headliner, replacing Chris Evans. Indeed, while Avengers: Endgame was the expected, well, endgame of Evans’s tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America (maybe?), the actor happens to have several starring roles on his docket. Consequently, with regards to Infinite, Chris Evans—unlike Cap—didn’t want to “do this all day.”
Mark Wahlberg replaced Chris Evans as the headlining star of Infinite, as Variety reported back in June 2019. Evans, who had been attached to the project since that February, dropped out due to scheduling issues. Star-swap notwithstanding, the fast-tracked movie project will adapt author D. Eric Maikranz’s 2009 novel, The Reincarnationist Papers. Prolific producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are onboard via the former’s Paramount-based Di Bonaventura Pictures, joined in that capacity by John Zaozirny, along with executive producer Rafi Crohn.

FX Networks continues to snap up all marquee movie titles that become available. Over the past six months, the network has acquired such commercial and critical hits as Venom and the Oscar-nominated Bohemian Rhapsody, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Green Book.
FX, whose movie deals also include streaming rights to make the films available on the network’s digital platforms, several years ago pulled away from off-network series, opting to spend the bulk of its acquisition budget on theatrical films instead. M. Night Shyamalan’s “Glass” easily maintained its reign in North America, adding $19 million during its second weekend of release for a domestic tally of $73.5 million.
Despite a steep 53% decline, the weekend haul of “Glass” was enough to top box office charts as newcomers “The Kid Who Would Be King” and “Serenity” fell flat.
Working Title and 20th Century Fox’s “The Kid Who Would Be King” earned $7 million when it debuted in 3,531 venues, a potentially disastrous result for a film that cost over $60 million before taking marketing into account. The family friendly film, directed by Joe Cornish, came in at the low end of expectations and opened at No. 4 despite positive reviews.
“Sometimes you make a really good movie and you have trouble connecting with a broad audience,” said Chris Aronson, Fox’s head of domestic distribution. The only competition of the PG front in coming weeks is “The...

The initial — and unofficial — casting notice for the character, who first appears in the Monday, Dec. 3 episode, titled “Unmasked,” likened her to “Buffy the Superhero Slayer.” Check out the full photo below, of Maya getting ready to slug it out with a brute.

TNT has released another great new trailer for the upcoming true crime thriller I Am The Night, which stars Chris Pine and was directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman).
This looks like it’s going to be a crazy yet fascinating series and it revolves around the legendary Black Dahlia murder. I like what this new trailer has to offer and I’m very much looking forward to watching it to see how this dark story turns out.
Here’s the synopsis:
I Am the Night tells the gripping story of Fauna Hodel (India Eisley), a teenage girl who is given away at birth, and grows up outside of Reno, Nevada. Fauna lives more-or-less comfortably with the mysteries of her origin, until one day she makes a discovery that leads her to question everything. As Fauna begins to investigate the secrets of her past, she meets a ruined reporter (Pine...
