DEUTSCHLAND 83 "Northern Wedding" (2015)
DEUTSCHLAND 83 is cold war television series made in Germany. The 8 episodes are set in 1983 during the height of the sabre rattling between the West and the Soviet Eastern Bloc. Stuck in the middle are the two Germany's, East and West. This is the fourth episode of the series.
Jonas Nay plays an East German border officer who is seconded into the East German Stasi. The Foreign Intelligence section needs a body to slip into West Germany to spy on a German General. The man, Ulrich Noethen, is in charge of working with his American counterpart to set up Pershing Missile sites.
In this episode, East German operative, Jonas Nay has returned to his base in West Germany from the NATO conference in Brussels. He had planted a bug inside the office of a high NATO official. Nay had seduced the man's secretary, Nikcola Kastner. This had allowed him access to the office.
Needless to say various problems for Nay pop up. These start when the bug he planted is discovered the next week. The NATO counter-intelligence boys are soon dropping by for a chat. It turns out though that the security boys suspect Miss Kastner of being the security leak. They just want to ask Nay about her. The problem for Nay is that Kastner has come to Germany to see Nay, and is staying at a nearby hostel.
Matters go from bad, to worse, as Nay is instructed to "take care of" the Kastner problem. It takes help from his Stasi handlers to get the job done. Nay bumbles his way through the various tasks aided by just plain blind luck, rather than any skill. He is a quick study though, and seldom repeats any errors. Back in East Germany it turns out that Nay's mother may be involved in a group trading around books that are banned in East Germany.
