Old Stuff
bemyfriend-4018430 April 2021
Panic in Needle Park, with Al Pacino, 1971. Sid and Nancy. And some of us lived it. It's old stuff. If you don't know about drug culture, (if I may be permitted to call it as much) then I guess this movie will show you that. If it even needs to be seen.

It had potential!

Honestly the movie isn't bad, but it's definitely low budget. I like how writer/director David Labrava show cases the nasty, gritty world of addiction (not just drugs, but addiction in general). I'd say it's not bad for the first time movie writer/director but maybe he could have used some help or advice from a more advanced writer/director. The biggest thing for me is the ending: it's not terrible, actually kind of cool but it honestly just ends. I wasn't expecting it to end right there but it just did and it was kind of strange. Maybe he could have wrote a couple more scenes to give it a more satisfactory ending. I feel with more time and experience David will get better if he's willing to put himself out there and maybe even step out of his comfort zone a little. I'd say to viewers give this movie a try with an open mind. It's not terrible, actually pretty entertaining with disturbingly realistic stuff regarding addiction... just remember it is lower budget.

Total suck fest!

I can't believe that there are people who gave this 7 to 10 stars. This was terrible! Low budget is right. Just absolutely so poorly done. Cannot believe some of the actors who put their name on this crap. The plot was weak, the dialogue sucked, The only reason I didn't stop watching it five minutes in is because of the actors who were in it. I cannot believe that anybody watched this garbage and actually produced it and put it out there. I think somebody could've taken a hold of it and maybe turned it into something watchable, but I cannot believe how crappy it was just a total waste of time.

Low budget but cool

I don't know the main characters name but he had a lot of screen presence. It was a down and dirty film about the nasty life of drugs. Well done though, I found it entertaining

Trainspotting, but better.

I put this on for background noise and it ended up engulfing my attention entirely. This movie does a great job showing addiction at it's worst. The only gripe I have is that I feel like the ending leaves too much unsaid. The whole arc with the two men in the apartment is just kind of pushed quickly to the side. It just feels like the movie could have been done without them and yet it was still my favorite part until the lack of any real conclusion for them or how they even really fit in the story.

Gritty and realistic

Warning: Spoilers
David Labrava really showcases his acting writing and directing talent with this walk through drug infested streets. Labrava plays Rico, a one time dealer turned user who gets swallowed by the streets. A sad turn for the protagonist that's as sharp as his needles. The addition of Sons of Anarchy alumni Kristen Renton, Mark Boone Junior, Emilio Rivera, Drea De Matteo and even Marilyn Manson revives a chemistry that seals this as one of the best hidden gems of cinema I've been lucky enough to find. Scout every streaming service or anywhere you can find to get a copy to absorb a slice of life that some may never be exposed to otherwise.
