As part of an April Fools Day night of programming, Troy Gentile appears at the party looking just like his character Barry Goldberg from The Goldbergs (2013), which aired right after this series on ABC. Due to The Goldbergs taking place in the 1980s, and The Middle set in present time, he could not realistically be playing Barry Goldberg, unless Barry time traveled from the past.
As part of an April Fools Day night of programming, ABC purposely created a few alterations in this episode when it first aired on April 1, 2015. During the opening title sequence, the crow sound effect was replaced with a sheep noise. This might be "corrected" for future airings and home video releases.
