- Veteran pop group Flowers of Progress is on the island with manager Cheryl Moore recording a come-back album when lead singer Stevie Smith is electrocuted in a swimming pool. With Camille now in France and Florence made detective sergeant clumsy new officer J.P. Hooper joins the investigation. Despite all the group members having apparent alibis most had a grievance against the victim who, whilst drunk, burned down record producer Vince Thuram's studio twenty years earlier whilst his brother Jim was angry that Stevie had kept an important secret from him. Bizarrely a click beetle not native to the island and a tell-tale puddle help Goodman to solve the case.—don @ minifie-1
- DI Humphrey Goodman and newly promoted DS Florence Cassell investigate the death of Stevie Smith, the lead singer of the rock band Flowers of Progress who are in Sainte-Marie to record a new album. He was apparently electrocuted in the swimming pool after a light stand fell into the water. It's all made to look like an accident but Goodman finds evidence that it's murder. The band's manager, Cheryl Moore, had arranged for the recording session as something of an anniversary get together for the group. All of them have secrets however. A click beetle found in the bushes at the scene of the crime leads Goodman to identify the killer.—garykmcd
- While Humphrey finds getting along with detective sergeant Florence Cassell easier then the complex relationship with Camille, Fidel's greenhorn successor J.P. Hooper makes an eager but clumsy first impression. Humprey actually knew -because of a class hot girl- the rock band Flowers of Progress before their split, now manager Cheryl Moore arranged a reunion and recording on the island of their come-back and second-ever album, sponsored by a US beer firm on account of the name. Their lead singer Stevie Smith is found electrocuted in the hotel swimming pool during the preparations for a party to thank hotel and other auxiliary staff. The hothead made serial enemies, also in the band, as by keeping secrets from brother Jimby and falsely claiming credit for Pete Thunders' lyrics and compositions. The studio owner record producer Vince Thuram was nearly bankrupted as it burned down by his fault 20 years ago. A beetle native only to Guadeloupe proves key evidence.—KGF Vissers
